per year in 1960 to 35MT in 2011, that is almost 97% of
its consumption.
That means the importation has grown at more than 6%
p.a. , year-on-year basis.

PLANNED AREAS OF EXPANSION
• The government has planned 2,560 ha new land for rice production
• With a yield of 0.7MT rice milled/ha, the new area is expected to produce
an additional 1,792 MT.
