Christmas Festival to Help Benefit Local Charities

The 3rd Annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival sponsored by KTAB News and 3M will offer games and activities for all ages, but the event is also geared toward helping local charities and families in need. Donations for three local nonprofit organiza-tions will be accepted during the festival on Friday, December 2nd and Saturday, December 3rd from 4-8pm at the Depot Plaza. “The holidays can be a particularly stressful time, especially with so many needs and we hope to provide an opportunity for folks to give as well as receive,” said Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce tourism director Sunni Modawell. Donations of nonperishable food items will

be accepted during this year’s festival to benefit Good Samaritan Ministries. New toys will also be accepted at the event to benefit the Toys for Kids program who provide Christmas for more than 2200 families. The Salvation Army will also be accepting donations of coats and blankets to distribute locally. “One organization, one person cannot do it all, but if we come together as a community, we can make a difference,” Modawell said. For more information about these donations or other activities during the Christmas Under the Stars Festival, go to BrownwoodChamber.org or call the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce at 325-646-9535.

Registration and warm up will begin at 7:00 AM with a shotgun start promptly at 8:00 AM. Registration forms are available at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce or online at VisitBrownwood.com under the Christmas Festival section. Runners can also register online at Active.com. Entry fee for the fun run is $20 if paid by November 30th and $25 after that. T-shirts will be available to the first 100 participants to register for the race. This year, all proceeds from the event will benefit the First United Methodist Church

Weekday Preschool. All runners are encouraged to dress in Christmas costumes to show their holiday spirit. For more information, contact the Brown-wood Area Chamber of Commerce at 325-646-9535. The Christmas Under the Stars Festival will take place December 2nd and 3rd at the Depot Plaza and will feature many other great activities in addition to the 5K run such as photos with Santa, live music, entertainment, children’s activities, and much more. Downtown Brownwood, Inc. is con-tinuing its holiday tradition of exposing the public to historic properties in Brown-wood. The annual Past, Present and Future tour of downtown Brownwood will offer participants a look into the rich his-tory that downtown has to offer and a look inside several of the historic properties. The Lyric Theatre, which is currently under major renovation, will also be on the tour giving participants an update of the restoration project. A stop at the Brown County courthouse is also scheduled offering histories of some of the buildings on the square as well as future plans for other properties along the tour

route. As an added treat, the historic home located at 707 Center Avenue known to local residents as the Rogers home (also known as the Lockwood and Haney home) is also on the tour and is in the midst of a total remodel. Refreshments will also be provided during the tour. The Past, Present and Future tour is scheduled for Thursday, December 8th.
