    welcome to gala week 2013

Gala Week, that wonderful time on Broughtys calendar of 2013 events, has once more, come to fruition !

As usual a tremendous amount of work has gone into the organising of this years events, this promises to

be one of the most exciting and enjoyable weeks in Broughty Ferry.

Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, with lots of sunshine and warmth. Unfortunately, Gala 2012 was a

bit mixed, between sunshine and rainy showers. Having said that, the most important element of Gala Week,

is of course yourselves, we want to see plenty plenty people coming to the Ferry, helping to make 2013s

Gala week the most successful ever.

The more funds we collect, the more we can donate to local charities such as Age Concern, St.Stephens

Church senior citizens Xmas party ,YMCA, Downfield Musical Society,Barnhill Primary School for equipment,

St. Andrews Ambulance and the Scouts etc. Any surplus money will go towards the purchase of additional

Xmas street light displays. For the 2012 Xmas lights the Broughty Ferry Traders Committee spent 4000 foradditional displays. The street lights are totally funded by Broughty Ferry traders committee, and gifted to the

people of Broughty Ferry and Dundee. However, without the support of the DCC who fund the costs of

the light installation, there would be no display.

The 2012 light switch on, was a fantastic success, with more than 2000 revellers in attendance. We had

Radio Tay, the Eastern School choir, the Hornes fun rides, delicious burgers from Scott bros. complimentary

mince pies, sweeties and hot mulled wine. The Lord Provost as usual, came down to switch on the lights,

which created a terrific carnival atmosphere.

This years Xmas festivities promise to be even bigger and better than that of 2012, in fact we reckon that

2013s party will be the best ever !!

Can I take this opportunity to thank all my helpers, organisers and most importantly, all my many friends,

who have given up all their time throughout the last twelve months, to make sure that this years Gala will be

    a great success.

Can I give a very sincere thank you to all our 2013 sponsors, a very special thank you goes to our main

sponsors, Gillies and Belhaven Brewery, who once again have supported Gala week. These two very

generous companies give us a great start to Gala Week. A huge thanks and warm welcome also goes to our

NEW sponsors, Lindsays incoporating Sheild & Kyd.

    .

If you have the time, and think you can contribute towards our wonderful events in the Ferry, please do not

hesitate to phone myself ( Gerry ) at The Hotel Broughty Ferry, on 01382 480027. We are always on the

lookout for new blood to join our committee.

Finally, have a wonderful 2013 Summer, please come down to The Ferry. I look forward to seeing you all

    again.

Gerry StewartChair Person, Broughty Ferry Community Gala Committee.

Forte Beauty Clinic, 312 Broughty Ferry Road, Broughty Ferry DD4 7NJ

Telephone: 01382 862340 email: [email protected]

    Beauty Rooms to Rent

We currently have limited spaces available for beauty therapists or health practitioners

to expand their businesses and work alongside others at Forte Beauty Clinic. The rooms

are all newly decorated, and light, airy spaces to work in. There is a shared modern kitchen,

two bathrooms and a WC in the clinic and a fully fitted out waiting room, plus lots of

off-street parking in this quiet area of Broughty Ferry.

The clinic will be a flexible, busy and professional working environment with a comfortable

and tranquil atmosphere for clients and therapists alike. As such, our rooms and room hire

options are equally flexible. Practitioners can choose to share a room with another therapist,

have their own full-time dedicated space or restrict their clinics to certain days of the week.

Our vision for Forte Beauty Clinic is to provide a one-stop shop for our clients, provided for

by a diverse but harmonious staff and range of treatments and products. In this vision, you

will expand your client base as your colleagues refer their own clients to you for your

specialised treatments, while the receptionist and booking service (which will shortly be

introduced) will allow you to concentrate fully on the service you provide.

If you specialise in beauty, health or complementary therapies and would like to arrange

a viewing or to discuss the possibility of renting a room in more detail, please speak to

Cate or Marie on 01382 862340 or by email to [email protected]

The Dundee - Alexandria Twinning Association invite you to

Celebrate American IndependenceOn Castle Green, Broughty Ferry, on Sunday 30th June.

Enjoy some American style Hot Dogs and Soft Drinks

Dundee and Alexandria were originally twinned in 1962 so this year is the 50th Anniversar yof this relationship. Twinning was introduced to promote links between Dundee and Alexan-dria which is situated approx 6 miles from the USA Capital, Washington DC and betweenScotland and the USA.

The main aims of the Twinning Association are to promote the fostering of friendshipsand encourage visits by individuals and groups between the cities, developing personalcontacts and thus broadening understanding of cultural, educational, recreational andcommercial activities between the cities.

Since the Association was launched, many of its members have travelled to Alexandria

regularly and have enjoyed discovering the city itself and nearby places of interest, inparticular, Washington D.C. At the same time numerous visitors from Alexandria havetravelled to Dundee where they have enjoyed visiting local places of interest and otherparts of Scotland.

The Association organises a variety of fund-raising and social events for members andfriends throughout the year which include recognition of Americas major celebrations onThanksgiving and Independence Day.

Anyone who is interested in the US and its culture is invited to become a member of theAssociation either individually, as a family or on a corporate basis. The Committee and

members of the Association are all very friendly and you will be made very welcome.

    window guessing competition

    the rules

Broughty Gala Weeks legendary Window Guessing Competition, first started wayback in 1932, and the rules are exactly the same today! All the participating shops andbusinesses are members of The Broughty Ferry Traders Association, and have displayed

in their windows an article which they do not sell. The object of the competition is for

young people (under 14) to look at the windows and discover what the odd article

is. For instance in the Bakers shop you might find a teapot or in the newsagent, a paint

brush. Remember, sometimes it will be hard to spot, but children should not go intoshops and ask for clues! The participating shops have a Red Diamond with a number on

it in their window, which corresponds to the number on the entry form on the adjacent

    page.
