WELCOME On behalf of all the staff and committee at Broughton Wings Sports Club I would like to welcome you and encourage you to join our club. Members are very fortunate at Airbus as not only do they own the club, they run it too. Council “committee” of 8 members are elected annually at the AGM and at monthly meetings the management team meet to discuss the future of the club.

Whether you want to play bowls or snooker, go rambling (using the club mini bus) or play badminton in the old restaurant above the club we have numerous facilities available for our 20 registers sections to use.

The gym is a very popular facility with over 1000 members and the latest equipment (all for under £10 per month)

Our Social Club bar has several large screen TV’s and an excellent HD projector (very popular for live sky football matches). The function room is available for hire, more details inside.

The football first team play in the Welsh Premier League (Wales’ highest division). Due to the level the club has reached we have an academy for local children to sign up. Qualified coaches take weekly sessions for under £2 per week, children are given kit and play regular matches against other academies in North Wales.

The club boasts a 200-person capacity function room, which is regularly the venue for great acts such as Meatloaf and Cher tributes and also annual Sportsman evenings; Frank Bruno entertained in March 2009

LOTTERY The Broughton Wings Sports and Social Club Lottery has been providing members with weekly wins for 55 years! Every week 7 winners are chosen at random. The main prize winner receives £1000! Six other lucky members receive prizes of £100 to £500! If the money is not enough, we also give away a brand new high specification car every three months!

The lottery is available to members who pay for weekly shares. The shares are a minimum of 10 (£1.30) and a maximum of 50 (£6.50) per week. Payment is setup through Airbus or Blue Arrow wages.

Permanent contractors can also join via their bank accounts

Joining the Sports Club and Lottery To join Broughton Wings Sports and Social Club and the Lottery, please either call in to the Sports Club office or contact us on the above telephone number and we can fax you a form. For Airbus employees, the cost of joining the Sports Club is 20p per week, and can be set up as payment via wages. For non-Airbus employees (associate members), the cost is: Adult - £12 Joint (Husband & Wife) - £20 Junior (16 +) - £6.

GYM The gym has been running for 12 years and has over 1000 members. The majority of the members are Airbus employees and contractors, although we do open it to associate Sports Club members and local residents. The gym has two main rooms.

The cardio room consists of:

SPORTS CLUB SECTIONS

BADMINTON

CLAY TARGET

The Badminton Section meets up every Wednesday night in the Airbus canteen (upstairs from the Sports Club) at 7.30pm, where fixtures and training take place.

There are no age restrictions on joining, and teams are mixed. We are always on the lookout for new members in what is a fun and sociable section.

*All players need to be a member of the Sports Club

There are currently no fixed arrangements for training nights at present as the club is in the process of being re-organised. However, open invitations when available will be open to anybody who is interested in taking part.

The section joining fee is just £5.00, and there are no age restrictions in place. Clay target shooters who are licensed and have own guns and shoot at locally organised events.

CROWN GREEN BOWLS

The Bowls season runs from April to September, and home matches take place on the bowling green situated next to the Sports Field.

The Chester League plays on Monday and Thursday evenings. Flintshire League plays on Wednesday evenings, and Cup matches take place on Tuesday and Fridays. During the height of the season, there can be up to 5 matches per week!

There are no age restrictions to joining the Bowls section, but each player must be a member of the Sports & Social Club. Bowls Club joining fee is £5.00.

Bowls are available for members to sign out from the Sports Club reception (office hours).

CHESTER MOTOR CLUB

If you are interested in motor sport, Chester Motor Club can give you the opportunity to get close to the action. At our Club, we have members who compete in stage rallies, sprints and hill climbs, production car trials, auto tests, road rallies and we even have members with vintage racing cars.

As a club, we stage a number of events and are always seeking marshals to help out – we also marshal the National Forest rallies in Wales. We meet up on the first Wednesdays of each month (please check this first) at 8.30pm in the Sports and Social Club, and every month we endeavour to hold an interest/fun evening, and twice a year we hold Karting event at the track in Deeside.

COURSE FISHING

The Coarse Angling Club currently is currently 40 members strong, and runs in an annual league comprising of a minimum of 14 matches.

Matches are held in venues ranging from local rivers, canals and commercial waters. All matches are run with a friendly atmosphere, with the Club also holding an annual charity match and friendly knock up competitions against other local clubs. We enter the Angling Times Super cup every year and also have a North Wales Winter league team, which we have had recent success.

FLY FISHING CLUB

The Fly Fishing Club travel to top fisheries around the country, once a month. They meet up in the Sports Club Bar on the last Thursday every month. There are no age restrictions, and the joining fee is £25.00, after joining the Sports Club.

RAMBLING & MOUNTAINEERING The Rambling and Mountaineering Section has been in existence for 30 years, catering for all ages and fitness levels. A regular programme sheet has all planned walks for forthcoming months, which can be seen on the Sports Club notice board. The membership fee is £1.50 per annum (must be a Sports Club Member).

Walks are usually planned for alternate Sundays (meet 8am at factory gates – times may change). Venues include Snowdonia, Derbyshire, Cheshire and local walks. Weekends away are usually planned for Spring and Autumn. During the Spring and Summer period, we also organise weekday evening walks.

Social programmes include a Christmas party and a Barbeque in the summer. We currently have 36 members, and are always looking for new ones!

FOOTBALL

The Football section has 2 teams at present. Our first team play in the Welsh Premier and the second team play in the Welsh National League. Any new members are welcome (aged 17 or over).

We are always looking for new assistance. Players, coaches, stewards and committee members are always appreciated.

We also have an Airbus FC Supporters Club, where members pay £1 per week. For this, they get free entry to all ‘home’ games and get entered into a free monthly prize draw. Forms are available from Sports Club reception.

The Airbus Wings Golf Society is open to all Social Club Members whether Corporate Golf members or not, we play one Friday a month from April to September .

Non members of the Corporate Golf section are asked to pay a £10 membership fee, which is returned to the Sports and Social Club. The cost of each day depends on the venue and the amount of holes we wish to play. On average a half day game for 18 holes costs around £30 with a full day costing approx. £50, meals and prizes provided each time.

Details of the fixtures can be gained through me - Graham Massey. We average and book for 20 golfers each time, so we do run on a first come first served basis, with deposits being received..

We have a Corporate Golf Section which allows you to play at various local clubs for greatly discounted green fees. The joining fee is £40.00 which then entitles you to pay the following discounted green fees (2012 membership prices – new membership details will be confirmed):

Padeswood & Buckley: £9.50 (weekday) Aldersey Green: £7.50 (weekday)/£8.50 (weekend after 2pm) Hawarden: £10 (weekday) £13 (weekend) Also, Eastham Lodge, Mold and Carden Park deals available.

LINE DANCING

The Line Dancing is run as a Country Line dance section with the purpose of everybody getting together to learn new dances. Social functions are arranged both in the Club, and other venues. The section takes part in fund raising events for local charities, and good causes.

Sports Club members pay £3.00 per lesson, which are at the following times:

Tuesday Intermediate Dance Class Function Room – 19.30 – 22.30

Wednesday beginners Dance Class Function Room – 19.00 – 21.30

Social line dance nights are arranged on the first Friday night of every month. The cost varies between £3.50 and £5.00 depending on the price of the artist. A Sunday afternoon ‘Dance Disco’ is organised every 6 weeks approx. normally costing £3.50..

Broughton Wings Snooker section meet up in the Sports Club snooker room, where we have 2 full size snooker tables. We presently have 2 teams which play in the Chester & District league – a 3rd team is a possibility if some additional members join!

League fixtures mainly take place on Friday and Monday evenings. All members need to be members of the Sports & Social Club

MOTORCYCLE CLUB

The Motorcycle Club regularly organize local ride outs (weather permitting), and also hold sponsored events to raise funds for Airbus’ ‘Charity Challenge’.

The requirements: to have your own bike! The Club also arrange discounts for local bike retailers.

There is no additional joining fee, other than joining the Sports Club
