There will be NO Sunday services at Brookfield and Immanuel for the month of January. On the last week of the month, this will be re-evaluated for the month of February. From the Pastor’s Desk at Christmas: Dear friends and family of Brookfield-Immanuel, during Advent and Christmas we celebrate the arrival of the Lord, mainly for the joy, peace, love and hope found in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We wait for Him as if we have not met Him, yet knowing what we do anticipate His love and mercy and healing. Yes, this has been a hard year! In the midst of all our current challenges and concerns the love of God is made manifest to us in the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus. With the angels in Bethlehem, our faith moves us to sing: “Glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth!” God is with us in it and through it. With deep joy and gratitude I extend my prayerful wishes during this Holy Season and into the New Year. During this time I hope each of us will find opportunities to reflect on our faith and relationship with our Blessed Lord and one another. Whatever it is that our hearts and souls desire whether we realize it or not, our ultimate desire is Jesus Himself. For this reason we are filled with joy and consolation at Christmas to know that all that we hoped for has been fulfilled in the Christ Child. I hope that we will be able to get past this virus and begin anew. Together, as a people of faith we may grow in the strength and grace to know and celebrate God’s presence in our lives and His dominion over all things of this world. May our Lord Jesus, born in Bethlehem, bless you, your families and loved ones. To Chip Lee – for repair of the flag pole in the new cemetery.

Dick & Ernie Riess – for repair and replacement of the two flags in the new cemetery.

Vic Grabis, Gary & Cherry Tarbox, Jr, Gary Tarbox Sr., Sharon Roberts – for the continuing research into repair of the sump pumps in the hall. Now we need to re-cover the floor so the hall will be back in useable shape again.

Elizabeth Warren – For the videoing and publishing of brief Worship messages with Pastor each week. We have many requests to continue this worship experience.

Nicki Bradshaw – for our first try at Facebook streaming at Immanuel for morning worship. We look forward to additional interest and time to dedicate to this project.

    Additions to the New Cemetery

In the Spring of 2019, Immanuel and Brookfield Churches honored Sandy Cross for her voluntary Organist/Choir Director for 60 years. They presented her with 2 beautiful Pink Velour Crape Myrtle trees planted on either side of the flag pole at the rounded end of the sidewalk. Additionally, Sandy’s family donated a park bench in honor of the celebration. Special thanks to Vic Grabis for bolting the park bench to the cement. I know this photo is hard to see, so drop by any time to enjoy them in the Spring.

Sunday, December 20, 2020 was a delightful service set aside for our children at both Brookfield and Immanuel. Many thanks to those who planned, participated and coordinated the many things done to enhance this service. Betty Warren gave a moving and gracious reading about Mary, the mother of Jesus as our message. Elizabeth Warren was present as “Mary” who delighted the children by giving each a Christian Christmas ornament. The biggest

surprise was a visit by “Santa”! Everyone was excited to see Santa waiting outside, ready to greet and give bags of goodies to the ids. A very special day! “Thank you to all.

  • Philip Clyde Watson Sr, 91, of Baden, MD died on December 31, 2020, of complications from Covid. He was born at home on October 25, 1929, to the late Clyde Edward Watson and Thelma Ona Townshend Watson.

Phil grew up as a farmer and waterman on the Patuxent River following in the footsteps of many generations of his family before him. He grew tobacco on the family farm with his father and fished and crabbed on the Patuxent River. Phil loved to hunt and fish and spent many happy days in a duck blind or on the river fishing commercially and for pleasure. His circle of friends was extensive and spanned many generations.

After his marriage to Betty Page Young in 1950, he began work with his father-in-law, Page Young and eventually became co-

owner of Young & Watson, Inc. a library equipment business.

Phil and his late wife Betty, his one true love, were married for nearly 60 years before she was tragically killed in a car accident in 2009.

Phil was predeceased by his wife Betty and his brother Russell G. Watson, Sr. He is survived by his brother Laurie Gene Watson of Hampton, VA, and sister Jean Briscoe Richards of Brandywine, and children Patty Watson Dolesh of Aquasco, Ruth Watson Tabb of Brandywine, Philip Clyde Watson, Jr, of Brandywine, and Carolyn Virginia Watson of Rehoboth Beach, DE. Phil had four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Due to Covid-19, the funeral and burial was private. A memorial gathering will be planned later. Phil will be interred at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Brandywine, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church cemetery fund, 17400 Aquasco Road, Brandywine, MD, 20613 or to RES Homecare, 26595 Lawrence Adams Drive, Mechanicsville, MD, 20659, who will use donations made in Phil's name to buy medical supplies for patients who cannot afford them.

“THANK YOU” for responding to the “Brookfield Tea” flyer. We received donations totaling $2,165.00 We are blessed by the generosity to others which surrounds and keeps us together as a loving community.!!!

KAYLA SWEENEY GRADUATION Congratulations to Kayla Sweeney upon earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. Due to the pandemic, she did not get to walk across the stage and receive a handshake from the university president. The commencement ceremony was held virtually on December 11, 2020, with her at home in cap and gown. In May 2018, she was chosen to be part of a team that went to Guatemala to participate in a foreign exchange program of physical therapy techniques. The pandemic did not adversely affect everything in Kayla’s life. Last Easter,

her longtime beau, Tom Jamison, got down on one knee and handed her a plastic egg. Inside, the egg contained a beautiful diamond ring. He said, “Will you marry me?” She replied, “I will.” A May wedding is planned. The couple met at a Christian Youth group meeting when they both attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Dr. Sweeney is the daughter of Brian and the late Maryrae Sweeney, granddaughter of Elsie and the late Robert Sweeney, great granddaughter of the late Melvin and Marie Sweeney.
