Counselors' Corner
April is Child Abuse Prevention month. Did you know...
North Carolina law requires all adults to report suspected
child maltreatment. You do not need proof that maltreatment has occurred; you only need reasonable cause to suspect maltreatment. You do not need anyone's permission to file a report.
North Carolina uses the Multiple Response System (MRS) to respond to suspected child abuse and neglect. Every referral is investigated through a strengths-based, family-centered
assessment conducted by either local law enforcement or the local DSS. These professionals recognize that parents want what is best for their children, and that many families face issues that make parenting more challenging. When you refer a family to DSS, you are actually referring them for services that will strengthen the family as a whole.
Parenting can be very difficult! Kids do not come with a set of instructions. If you would like additional support these community resources may be helpful:

Take a moment to check out our Pinwheel Garden that will be located around the Kiosk on Bailey Road. Also, please encourage your child to wear BLUE on Friday in support of Child
Abuse Prevention Month.

Is your child's book-bag a disaster? Do they complete work but forget to turn it in? Would you like help in getting your child organized?
The School Counseling Department will be offering organizational help for students during lunch / PA time on Fridays starting on April 5th. Please contact your child's school counselor
via email if you would like for your child to participate.

Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope is a one-hour documentary that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new
movement to treat and prevent Toxic Stress. Now understood to be one of the leading causes of everything from heart disease and cancer to substance abuse and depression, extremely stressful experiences in childhood can alter brain development and have lifelong effects on health and behavior. Resilience will challenge us to reframe what we think about childhood
trauma from predictable to preventable.
Join Davidson LifeLine to watch Resilience and participate in a panel discussion with the following experts:
Psychiatrist School Counselor
Mental Health Professional Lived Experience

Bailey Drama Performances
Up first, is All's Well That Ends Well, a 45 minute adaptation of Shakespeare's classic forsaken love story. Bertram, a Count in France, refuses to be married to Helena, a
poor doctor's daughter, who is and has always been in love with him. He rejects her even after the King raises her position and runs away to Italy to fight for the Duke of Florence. She
follows him to Italy and through disguise and tricks eventually wins his love.
Second, Tracks by Peter Tarsi, the story of a group of people from different places that find themselves all on the same subway platform with no exit. Where are they? Where does the
train go? Why have their watches stopped? Come see it to find out!
Tickets will be on sale in the mornings and at lunches starting Monday, April 1st.
Tickets are $5 for students and children and $8 for adults.
Tickets are also on sale online at www.bmspabc.weebly.com.
Honors Chorus Auditions
7th and 8th grade Honors Chorus auditions for the 2019-2020 school year will be held on the mornings of April 9-11. There will be a sign up sheet for time slots on the chorus bulletin board in the elective hallway starting next week. Times will be before school and during
Bronco Block. Time slots are given on a first come, first served basis.
What is Honors Chorus?
Honors Chorus is a class for students that have already completed at least one semester of chorus and have a basic understanding of music theory and vocal technique. Honors chorus starts where regular chorus ended. They begin the semester
learning music for Music Performance Assessment, which is a judged performance. Music learned in honors chorus has a higher level of difficulty than in regular chorus. Formal grades
in Honors Chorus are strictly rehearsal/performance based.
How do I audition? Auditions are open to ANY student that has been in chorus. Sign up for a time to audition on the chorus bulletin board and take an audition form. Come to the chorus room a few minutes
before your assigned time with your signed audition form so that we don't fall behind and have time for everyone to audition. The audition will be only with me and there will be no other students in the room (I try to make it as "not scary" as possible). You will do a few vocal
technique/range/ear training exercises with the piano, a short sight reading excerpt, and will sing a song of your choosing that you have learned in chorus. The audition shouldn't take
more than 5-10 minutes and the only thing you need to prepare is your selected song. Students that are currently in Honors Chorus or Bailey Singers do not need to re-
audition. They just need to let me know if they want to be in Honors Chorus for the 2019-2020 school year.
Honors chorus is second semester for both 7th and 8th grade. Results will be posted
on the chorus website by April 12.
Please email Mrs. Coldiron if you have any questions.
