About Tonight’s Opponent
Manhattan College is located on the heights above Van
Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, NY. Manhattan has an
enrollment of 3,675. It was founded as the Academy of
the Holy Infancy in 1853. The name was changed to
Manhattan College in 1863 and moved to its present
location in 1922. Manhattan graduates include Vincent
dePaul Draddy, a former Jasper golfer and football
player who went on to become an innovative manufac-
turer of sportswear who introduced the Izod and
Lacoste knit shirts to America, Glenn Hughes, the

Jasper Hoops History
The Jaspers won the 2015 and the 2014 MAAC
Championship Tournaments, defeating arch rival and
top seed Iona in the title game both times. Manhattan
was one of the strongest basketball programs in the
MAAC in the first half of the last decade, competing in
either the NCAAs or the NIT four times in a five-year
period. Manhattan was in the 2003 and the 2004
NCAA tournaments and the 2002 and 2006 NIT.
Manhattan Hoops This Year
Manhattan has lost four of its last five games. The
Jaspers are coming off of an 86-73 loss to Iona on
Friday. In that game, Manhattan led by as many as 15
points in the first half before Iona built an 18-point
second half lead. Forward Rich Williams scored 27
points, making four three-pointers, forward Zane
Waterman and guard Shane Richards combined for 35
points, with Waterman grabbing 10 rebounds. The
Jaspers scored just 40 points in a 21-point home loss to
Saint Peter’s on Tuesday. Manhattan has four players
averaging in double figures, led by Shane Richards’
17.3 points per game. Rich Williams is adding 14.2
points per game, while Zane Waterman and Calvin
Crawford are combining for 22 points and 11 rebounds
per game.
Not What but Who is a Jasper
The Jaspers are named after Brother Jasper of Mary
F.S.C who is credited with inventing baseball’s seventh
inning stretch in the late 19th century, when Manhattan
annually played the New York Giants in baseball at the
Polo Grounds.
Rider vs. Manhattan This Year
The Broncs lost 65-57 at Manhattan on February 2. In
that game Rider led 55-53 with 3:57 remaining. Teddy
Okereafor scored 19 points for Rider, while Shane
Richards scored 28 for the Jaspers.
Rider vs. Manhattan Last Year
Rider beat eventual MAAC Champion Manhattan twice
last season, both times in overtime. Rider won at Manhat-
tan 82-79 in overtime on January 18. In that game five
Broncs scored in double figures, led by Teddy
Okereafor’s 16 points. Khalil Alford came in off the
bench and scored a career-high 14 points on 10 shots,
scoring four points in overtime. In the game at Rider
February 8, the Broncs won 85-77.
Rider vs. Manhattan 2013-14
The Broncs lost 67-51 at Manhattan on ESPNU and lost
at home 86-69.
Rider vs. Manhattan
The Broncs and Jaspers have met 46 times since the
series began in 1929-30, with Rider winning 24, including
12 of the last 18. Since Rider joined the MAAC, the
Broncs are 23-16 against the Jaspers, including 1-1 in
post-season.
Head Jasper
Manhattan is coached for the fifth year by Steve Masiello,
a former Manhattan assistant who came back to Riverside
after serving as an assistant at Louisville for six seasons.
When Masiello was an assistant at Manhattan the Jaspers
went to two NCAAs and one NIT in a four-year span,
winning MAAC Titles in 2003 and 2004.
Head JasperManhattan is coached for the first year by Steve
Masiello, a former Manhattan assistant who comes
back to Riverside after serving as an assistant at
Louisville for six seasons. When Masiello was at
Manhattan the Jaspers went to two NCAAs and one
NIT

Rider vs. Ranked Teams
In November Rider played the third ranked team in the
nation, Maryland, and lost by seven points. In Decem-
ber Rider played the 14th ranked team in the nation,
Providence, and lost by eight points. The last time Rider
defeated a ranked team was in the 2009-10 season
opener at #18 Mississippi State.

After the recent swiming & diving championships Rider is
currently in first place in the 11-team MAAC
Commissioner’s Cup standings.
Double Double Toil and Trouble
Junior Kahlil Thomas has 11 career double-doubles,
his latest against Niagara February 14. All 11 of
Thomas’ double doubles have come in the last 19
games
Teddy O. Honored
Teddy Okereafor was named the MAAC Player of the
Week for all games played January 11-17. He was also
named the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association
co-Player of the Week and the CollegeSportsMadness
MAAC Player of the Week. In a pair of MAAC wins,
Okereafor scored 61 points while compiling 13 re-
bounds and 13 assists. In Rider’s double overtime win
over Marist, Okereafor made a MAAC record 25 of
30 foul shots, finishing with 38 points.
1,000 Point WatchJunior Jimmie Taylor enters tonight’s game vs.
Manhattan with 998 career points. His career-high is
25, scored last year at Wagner. This year he is
averaging 9.1 points per game.
X Factor
In a pair of victories over Saint Peter’s and Canisius,
Xavier Lundy compiled 33 points in just 37 minutes of
action off the bench. He made 12 of 18 shots from the
field, including three 3-pointers, and was six for six from
the foul line. At Saint Peter’s he scored 12 points early
as Rider took a 30-10 lead, and finished with 18 points
and seven rebounds.
Smallest Player from the Smallest State
Rider freshman guard Kealen Ives is the smallest
member of the Rider team at 5’9". Ives hails from the
smallest state in the union, Rhode Island, which is about
1,200 square miles. By comparison, New Jersey is the
fourth smallest state and has 8,700 square miles.
And Then There Were 10Freshman Lacey James has decided to leave Rider
University to pursue other college opportunities. Due to
injuries the Broncs are now down to 10 players on the
roster.
Last Time Out
At Monmouth the Hawks scored the first nine points of
each half and won by 21 to clinch the MAAC regular
season title. Kahlil Thomas had 16 points and eight
rebounds for Rider.
Next Time Out
The Broncs will play Thursday evening, March 3 in the
opening round of the MAAC Championship Tourna-
ment in the Times Union Center in Albany.
Sadler Back in the Saddle
Senior Zedric Sadler missed the last three games due to
an ankle injury suffered February 14 in the win over
Niagara, but is expected to dress for tonight’s game.
Sadler is a veteran of 121 games and was the MAAC
Sixth Man of the Year last season.
Senior Night
Tonight is the final home game for seniors Khalil Alford,
Shawn Valentine and Zedric Sadler and graduate
student Teddy Okereafor. A pregame ceremony will
honor the four.
Rider in MAACThis is Rider’s 19th season in the Metro Atlantic

MAAC Honors Last Year
Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett was named the
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year
for guiding the Broncs to a second place finish after being
picked to finish seventh. Rider won a program-best 15
MAAC games and tied the program record with 21
regular season victories. Zedric Sadler was named the
MAAC 6th Man of the Year. Sadler played all 31 games
during the regular season, starting seven, and was fourth
on the team in scoring (7.8), second in three-point field
goal percentage (.357), second in steals (1.4), third in
assists (1.9) and third in minutes played (24.5). Sadler is
often given the task of guarding the opponents’ top
scorer. Teddy Okereafor was named Second Team
All-MAAC. Okereafor ranked third in the MAAC in
assists, fourth in steals (1.7), seventh in minutes played
(34.1), 11th in three-pointers made (1.5), 14th in free
throw percentage (.742) and 19th in scoring. In the all-
important MAAC games Okereafor averaged 12.1
points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists last year.

Broncs Camera Shy
The Broncs are 3-9 on TV this year (3-3 ESPN3, 0-1
ESPN2, 0-1 ESPNU, 0-1The Comcast Network, 0-1
Big 10 Network, 0-1 COX-TV, 0-1 Fox Sports
Network). Rider was 6-5 on TV last year (0-1 ESPN2,
0-1 ESPNU, 6-3 ESPN3). The Broncs were 4-10 on
TV in 2013-14 (3-4 ESPN3, 1-0 Comcast, 0-3
ESPNU, 0-1 Fox Sports 1, 0-1 BIG 10 Network, 0-1
Time Warner Cable). Rider was 3-3 on national broad-
casts (3-2 ESPN3, 0-1 ESPN) in 2012-13. In 2011-
12 the Broncs were 1-0 on ESPN2, 3-5 on ESPN3, 0-
1 on ESPN, 0-2 on ESPNU and 0-4 on Comcast. In
2010-11 the Broncs were 6-4 on T.V. In 2007-08
Rider was a best-ever 7-3 on national television.
And Away We Go
The Broncs are 4-12 in away games this year (wins at
Charleston Southern, Morgan State, Saint Peter’s and
at Niagara, losses at La Salle, Maryland, URI,
Fairfield, Providence, Quinnipiac, Iona, Siena, Manhat-
tan, Canisius, Marist and Monmouth) and 1-1 in neutral
site games (W Houston Baptist, L Cleveland St). Rider
was 11-5 in away games last year, not including 0-3 on
neutral court, winning at Penn, at Hartford, at Wagner,
at Marist, at Fairfield, at Quinnipiac, at Manhattan at
Saint Peter’s, at Canisius, at Niagara and at Monmouth
while losing at Princeton, at Kansas, at Iona, at Siena
and at Loyola Chicago and to Michigan State, Georgia
Tech and Santa Clara in Orlando. The Broncs were 8-
10 on the road (6-8 in away games, 2-2 on neutral
court) in 2013-14. Rider was 10-10 on the road in
2012-13, 8-9 in away games and 2-1 on neutral
courts. The Broncs were 5-10 in away games in 2011-
12, not including 0-3 on neutral court. Rider was 11-6
in away games in 2010-11. The Broncs finished the
2009-10 regular season 8-8 on the road.
Broncs on TV This YearTonight’s game is broadcast on ESPN3. At least one
more Rider basketball games will be televised this year,
on the ESPN family of networks, including ESPNU,
ESPN2 and ESPN3.
Rider in Broncs’ Zoo
Rider is 6-6 in Alumni Gymnasium this year. The Broncs
finished the regular season 10-3 in their home Alumni
Gymnasium last year. The Broncs have won 181 of
their last 258 games in Alumni Gymnasium (.700). In
2007-08 and 2008-09 the Broncs put together back-
to-back 11-2 home records. The 1993-94 season was
the best in Alumni Gym history, when Rider was 13-2,
which included three wins in the Northeast Conference
Championship tournament. Percentage-wise, 2001-02
was the best year in the Broncs’ Zoo, as Rider went 9-
1. The Broncs were 10-2 in Alumni Gym in both 1997-
98 and 2000-01.
Head Coach Kevin Baggett
Kevin Baggett was named the Rider head coach on
May 24, 2012 after serving 16 years on the Division I
level as an assistant. In his first season he led Rider to
19 wins, the CIT and was a finalist for two National
Coaching Awards. Baggett was an assistant for two
years at Rider before being named Associate Head
Coach in 2006-07. Baggett hails from Burlington, NJ
and was a 2006 inductee into the South Jersey Hall of
Fame. He was a member of the Saint Joseph’s Univer-
sity 1985-86 team that compiled a 26-6 record and
reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing from
Saint Joseph’s in June, 1989. Baggett came to Rider
from the University of Maryland Baltimore County,
where he served as assistant coach from 2004-06.
Baggett has also served as an assistant coach at James
Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal
Carolina.

Award Finalist
Rider head coach Kevin Baggett was named the
2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of
the Year after he took a team that was picked to
finish seventh in the MAAC and finished runner-up.
Rider (21-12) won a program-best 15 MAAC
games last year and tied the program record for wins
in a regular season. Coach Baggett was also one of
16 finalists for the 2015 Ben Jobe Award for the
second time in three years The Ben Jobe Award is
presented annually to the top minority coach in
Division I men’s basketball.
First Year Head Broncs
In his first season as head coach Kevin Baggett compiled
19 wins. In their first year as Rider head coaches, Clair
Bee won 19 games in 1928-29, Robert Greenwood
won 20 games in 1962-63, Dick Harter won 16 games
in 1965-66, Don Harnum won 18 games in 1997-98
and after an ‘interim’ year Tommy Dempsey won 16
games in 2006-07.

Last Nine YearsEntering this season, the Broncs compiled 165 wins in
the last nine seasons. That is the most wins of any team
in the Metropolitan New Jersey/New York area.
2016-17 Roster
Rider has signed three for the 2016-17 academic year,
Jordan Allen of Dover, Delaware, Stevie Jordan of
Bensalem, PA and Xzavier Malone of Conshohocken,
PA. Allen, a senior at Dover High School, was the state
of Delaware’s leading scorer, averaging 26.6 points per
game in 2014-15. The 6’3" sharpshooter shot 52
percent from the field and 46 percent from the three-
point line. Allen was named First Team All-Conference
and Second Team All-State. Stevie Jordan is a senior at
nationally ranked Advance Prep International in Dallas,
Texas. While at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School,
the 5’10 point guard was named the 2014-15 Pennsyl-
vania Sportswriters Class AA Player of the Year, leading
Conwell-Egan to a State Championship. The First
Team All-Catholic League honoree was also named the
2014-15 Courier Times Golden Team Player of the
Year. Jordan averaged 16.8 points per game and 4.8
assists. Malone led Plymouth Whitemarsh High School
to a 26-4 record and a Suburban One League Champi-
onship last year as a junior. The 6’4" Malone averaged
15 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while
leading the team to the District 1 AAAA Final and
PIAA State Quarterfinal round. Malone was a Second
Team All-League selection.
Looking for Some Afternoon DelightThe Broncs are 5-3 in afternoon games this year, losing
to Cleveland State, URI and Canisius while defeating
Houston Baptist, Iona, Quinnipiac, Canisius and
Niagara. Rider was 5-1 in afternoon games last year.
The Broncs were 6-4 in afternoon games in 2013-14.
Rider was 10-4 in afternoon games in 2012-13. Rider
was 5-4 in afternoon games in 2011-12. The Broncs
were 8-3 in afternoon games in 2010-11. Rider was 5-
5 in afternoon games in 2009-10. The Broncs were 12-
3 in afternoon games in 2008-09.
Rider AlumniFormer Broncs you may have heard of:
Jason Thompson ‘08. Graduated from Rider in 2008
and was the 12th player picked in the 2008 NBA draft by
the Sacramento Kings. Jason has played in over 500
NBA games, the most in Sacramento King history. He is
a career 50 percent field goal shooter and has shot over
66 percent from the foul line. He has averaged 7.1
rebounds per game and 1.2 assists, along with his 10.5
ppg average. At Rider Thompson played 122 games and
compiled 2,040 points and 1,171 rebounds.
Jazmine Fenlator ‘07. Member of the 2014 United
States Olympic Bobsled team that placed 11th with
partner Lolo Jones in Sochi and is now pilot/coach of
Jamaican Bobsled team. Was a two-time Rider Athlete
of the Year and an All-East selection in four different
track & field events. Most Outstanding Performer at
both Indoor and Outdoor MAAC Championships, leading
both teams to MAAC Titles.
Richard “Digger” Phelps ’64. Played basketball and
golf at Rider, coached basketball at University of Notre
Dame, currently works with ESPN, member of Rider
Athletics Hall of Fame.
Clair Bee. An accounting professor, founded Rider
varsity sports in 1928-29 and coached football, basketball
and baseball. Compiled a 53-7 three-year record in
basketball before moving on to LIU, where he won
National Championships. A member of the Naismith
Basketball Hall of Fame, Bee wrote the popular Chip
Hilton books and invented the shot clock and the three-
second rule.
Dick Kuchen ’66. Graduated from Rider as the career
leader in rebounds and was fifth in career
scoring, made the winning fouls shots as Rider upset
NYU. Was the head coach at Cal-Berkley and Yale.
Harry Gamble ’52 Captained the last football team at
Rider (1951) and went on to be President of the Philadel-
phia Eagles. Passed away on January 28, 2014.
Jack Armstrong. An All-American pitcher for Rider in
1985 as a sophomore, went on to start the 1990 Major
League All-Star game as a rookie pitcher for the World
Champion Cincinnati Reds.
Jack Madden ’65. Graduated from Rider as the career
leader in points and rebounds in basketball and was 20-5
as a Bronc pitcher on the baseball team. Went on to
enjoy a long career as an NBA referee, including 25
NBA championship series games.
Rider in Post SeasonLast season was Rider’s fifth postseason tournament in
seven years, playing at Loyola Chicago in the CBI. In
2012-13 the Broncs played in the CIT, playing at
Hartford and at East Carolina in the CIT. In 2011
Rider played Northern Iowa in the CIT. In 2009 the
Broncs played Liberty in the CIT. In 2008 Rider played
Old Dominion in the CBI. In 1998 Rider received its
first-ever National Invitation Tournament bid and
traveled to Penn State. In 1994 Rider won the NEC
and played Connecticut in the NCAAs on Long Island.
In 1993 Rider won the Northeast Conference and
played Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament in Nash-
ville. The Broncs won the East Coast Conference
Championship in 1984 and played Richmond in the
opening round of the NCAAs at the Palestra.
Taylor NABC Allstate Good Works
Nominee
Rider junior Jimmie Taylor is one of just two MAAC
men’s basketball players to be a nominee for the
National Association of Basketball Coaches Allstate
Good Works Team. This distinguished award shines a
spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have
shown dedication to service in their communities. In its
fourth year, the Allstate NABC Good Works Team
recognizes players at all levels of college basketball who
have made outstanding contributions in the areas of
volunteerism and civic involvement.
