Bromont, city of sport and technology

Nestled in the Eastern Townships, a rural haven of mountains and valleys, the city of Bromont is a prime example of harmonious and sustainable development.

A modern city

Bromont, city of sport

| Bromont, city of sport and technology

Although the municipality of Bromont was founded in 1964, the history of its location and territory goes as far back as the 19th century, with the establishment of West Shefford and Adamsville villages.

The touristic activities the City offers span our four seasons, and include notably: equitation, ski, golf, cycling, mountain biking, Water Park and outdoor recreational activities.

Merging both villages’ territories on its official founding, Bromont grew with the initiative of two brothers, Germain and Roland Desourdy, who envisaged Bromont as a definitely modern city. For the Desourdy brothers, Bromont had to develop its economic activities while respecting its citizens and its residential area, as well as protecting the environment and maintaining its quality of life.

For each of these activities, Bromont prides itself with first class facilities renowned beyond Quebec and Canada’s borders.

Real visionaries, Germain and Roland Desourdy planned the development of the City of Bromont towards the tourism, sport and high technology indus-tries.

Each year, more than 1.6 million tourists visit this charming municipality in the Eastern Townships.

Ski Bromont is the largest night skiing resort in America: on 450 acres of skiable terrain, the Bromont site offers around 156 ski runs and glades, spread out on 7 hill sides.

With its ski activities, including its famous ‘Nuits Blanches’, Bromont is one of the most popular ski centers in the province.

In the summer, the ski center becomes a Water Park with 25 aquatic and ground facilities, including a heated wave pool of almost 24 000 square feet, rafting, miles of waterslides and exciting mountain luge rides.

From May to October, the site also offers the largest mountain biking area in Eastern Canada with 19 trails of all levels, a permanent 4 cross course and one of the most beautiful bike parks in Quebec.

The Centre National de Cyclisme de Bromont (CNCB)

Roger Deslauriers, a competent man

Experienced rider and competitor, his Bromont story dates back to 1969 when he joined Roland Desoudy as Manager of the Equestrian Center. He put together horse training and breeding and trade programs that garnered international fame 10 years later. Roger Deslauriers then becomes owner of the Equestrian Center and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with as many people as possible.

At the same time, in the early 70’s, he contributes to the Olympic Games’ project and when the site of today’s Bromont Equestrian Park gets the accreditation in 1974, he is one of the event’s organizers.

In 1976, the Olympic site welcomes the official equestrian disciplines at the Montreal Olympic Games. Following this illustrious event, Roger Deslauriers is given the mandate to manage the Olympic Equestrian Park. His love of the venue and his desire to keep its international renown allowed us the privilege of hosting, this year, the 38th edition of the International Bromont, the most important international horse show in Quebec and Eastern Canada.

The passion of equestrian sport

Leader of the International Bromont

In fact, riding is a family history, as both Mario and Patrice, Roger’s two sons, also rode from a young age under their father’s kind, but none the less professsional guidance.

The knowledge and ambition passed down from father to son allowed Mario to win the final of the prestigious and highly sought 1984 World Cup, at the tender age of 19. With his horse Aramis, they are still today, the youngest rider and youngest horse to win the World Champion title. Mario was part of the Canadian team on many occasions, including the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games.

Roger Deslauriers is the founder, driving force and manager of the most prestigious equestrian event in Eastern Canada; with 38 editions to its credit, International Bromont welcomes every year hundreds of riders and horses for high caliber competitions on the site of the Olympic Equestrian Park.

As manager of the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park and owner of the Equestrian Center, Roger Deslauriers works passionately and relentlessly for the growth of equestrian sports in Quebec. A visionary, he continues to be a tireless ambassador and numerous projects are either being considered or being implemented.

After being part of the equestrian history of Quebec, Roger Deslauriers is concentrating his efforts towards creating tomorrow’s strong events, inspired by his experience and the values he cherishes: endorsement of the sport, tradition and excellence.

The Equestrian Park: an Olympic legacy

The story starts on May 12, 1970, when the International Olympic Committee announced that Montreal would be the host city for the XXIst Olympiads.

The Olympic Equestrian Park is born.

Since the site promised to be the ideal venue to host the equestrian disciplines, Mr. Roland Desourdy, co-founder of the City of Bromont, proposes it to the Mayor of metropolitan Montreal, Jean Drapeau, a man he supports. The accreditation comes in 1974 and is soon followed by the beginning of work. Therefore, in 1976, during the XIst Olympic Games, the equestrian events are judged in Bromont.

Bromont, equestrian city

Following the Olympics, the story of the Equestrian Park goes on. An exceptional venue for growing equestrian events in Quebec, it still attracts international level events, under the management of Roger Deslauriers.

Through the years, Bromont’s and the Park’s reputation grew into one of a must equestrian event in Canada.

Bromont Three-Day Event

Bromont International Driving

Quebec Dressage Championship

Today, the mission of the Olympic Equestrian Park is to actively participate in promoting equestrian sports in Quebec and Canada. To do so, we host and organize a large number of events, every year.

For 26 years now, the Bromont Olympic site welcomes the Bromont Three-Day Event, a CCI3* world renowned event on the PRO Tour.

For the last 12 years, the Bromont Olympic Equestrian Park hosted the only international driving event in Canada and one of three FEI recognized events in North America.

In 2014, Bromont hosted a unique dressage event: the provincial Championship. With an all FEI judges panel, including 2 foreigns judges, riders in Prix St-Georges division could received at Bromont their declaration scores in order to declare for the qualification for the 2015 Toronto Pan-Am. An exclusivity among Quebec dressage’s events.

It is crucial for us to welcome riders, whether novice or international experts, under the best conditions and support them on their sporting journey. Equitation is a great life teaching experience and its practice brings forth important values for everyone such as respect, patience and diligence.

In 2005, the City of Bromont assumes the ownership of part of the site in a partnership where the Société d’Agriculture du Comté de Shefford (SACS) is responsible for the marketing, maintenance and improvement of the site. Thanks to this innovative partnership with the City, the SACS and Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), the Olympic Equestrian Park is preserved at perpetuity and its equine vocation forever protected.

Dressage, Show Jumping, Eventing, Driving are all central disciplines represented at the Park.

The most important show in North America for the eventing discipline, the Bromont event actually served as a final selection step for the Canadian and American Olympic teams in June 2012.

The event, welcoming world renowned drivers, such as Chester Weber, counts towards selecting the Canadian and American teams for the World Equestrian Games.

The Bromont National Equestrian Center

The SACS has undertaken the long-term development of the Olympic Equestrian Park.

The National Equestrian Center idea was born under Roger Deslauriers’ management. It is an ambitious project which will provide facilities allowing Bromont to present the 8 FEI recognized equestrian disciplines as well as other related equine disciplines (polo, horseball, etc.).

With a mission dedicated to the growth and promotion of the sport, the National Center will be open 12 months a year for equestrian competitions, horse shows, sport-études programmes and training alike.

This project will bring Bromont up the ladder in the equine world and solidify its status as a major player in the equestrian world in Quebec, Canada and abroad.

13The Equestrian Park : an Olympic legacy |

A unique venue, an important economic impact

We host or organize important events such as the International Bromont, the Three-Day Event International Show and the International Driving.

Every year, we strive to grow and improve these events, as well as making them accessible to the public. Share and create emotion.

A warm welcome, professional support and an excellent marketing strategy are important criteria for us.

Moreover, the Olympic Equestrian Park’s central event, International Bromont, represents, on its own, an economic impact, for Bromont and for Quebec, of more than 10 million dollars.

A study by Segma Recherche concluded that this event welcomes 128 000 visitors in July. In the case of the Olympic Equestrian Park, it receives over 200 000 visitors during the summer.

Each of these events are part of the “sports and leisure” industry. In Quebec, the equine and horse industry represents 521 million dollars in economic spin-off, 96% of which comes from the “sports and leisure” business.

International Bromont: an equestrian event of major scope

This year, International Bromont celebrated its 39th anniversary, 39 years of tradition, excellence and hard work; an event that offers a better and stronger edition, year after year.

“It is not just about excellence, it is about offering what we stand for, and, with our riders and visitors, write a new page in our history.” Translated from French

– Roger Deslauriers, General Manager, International Bromont

A major event for Eastern Canada

The longest tradition in Quebec

International Bromont is the FEI event with the longest history in Quebec: after four decades of passion and determination, we offer a unique experience throughout Eastern Canada.

From our beginning of a few days of competition in June, we have grown: as early as 1984, our 9th edition, the FEI recognized the value of our event by authorizing a special qualifying event for the final of the World Cup, an honor we have never lost.

We welcome riders from Quebec, Canada and abroad for three weeks of high caliber com-petition, on a venue with undeniable country charm and high quality facilities.

With over $ 500 000 in prizes and purse money, we are the most important event in Eastern Canada as well as one of the Top 25 competitions in North America.

From days, the event became weeks welcoming hundreds of riders and horses on a site where history and equestrian tradition live in harmony.

Page 15: Bromont olympic equestrian park & international bromont presentation 2015

15International Bromont : an equestrian event of major scope |

In 2013, we have added a cornerstone to our growth: a third week of competition, exclusively national, proving once again that no other event in Quebec and Canada can compare to the International Bromont.

For 2015, the International Bromont will present 3 weeks of international level event, including one the seven East coast exlusive and prestigious Longines FEI World CupTM Jumping North American League Qualifier.

The effervescence and energy created with each edition motivate us to push our boundaries. Every year is an opportunity for a unique event, every year is an opportunity to honor our achievements and redefine our standard of excellence.

A history that lives on
