Dr. Jatinder SinghDirector, PHDCCI

On this backdrop, PHDCCI is organizing “Virtual Infrastructure Conclave-2021” on 27th August 2021 at 11:00 AM. The objective of this conclave is engage with all stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure development meets public expectations, build on a shared vision for long-term value creation in infrastructure among all stakeholders and ensure that public needs are being met. Also to identify gaps in implementation of relevant policies, share good practices and lessons learnt in order to work towards a common understanding to go forward.

Yours Sincerely,

I feel honoured in inviting you to join the Conclave or nominate a senior official from your organization to attend. Your presence and inputs will greatly enrich the deliberations. I sincerely hope that you will kindly accept our invitation and send us your positive confirmation at the earliest.

The compounding effect of a well-developed infrastructure in the growth and development of an economy is acknowledged fact. Recent initiatives by various ministries of Government of India such as setting of target of road construction of worth Rs.15 lakh crore (US$ 206 billion) in the next two years, US$ 82 billion plan to invest under the Sagarmala programme, bill to set up the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) to fund infrastructure projects in India and expansion of The National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) from 6835 to 7400 projects , will reinvigorate demand in economy, by creating job opportunities and income. This will add substantially to incremental aggregate demand in the economy; and by making the industry more cost-efficient by reducing the cost of logistics and transportation.

Whilst the need for driving infrastructure investment is clear, equally important is the need to sustainably manage such investments. The complex nature of infrastructure investments, effective means for risk allocation and risk sharing which are vital for viability of investments in the sector. Investors are increasingly incorporating sustainability and ESG considerations into their quality infrastructure investment decisions, primarily as a means to mitigate risks and preserve the value of infrastructure assets over the long-term, given the long-term horizons of many infrastructure investors, but also to assess impact. Ultimately the success of development of infrastructure will be measured not by the quantum of funds invested, but on how this infrastructure contributes to the achievement of India’s economic, social and environmental objectives.
