Intelligently engineered to provide the greatest drilling performance, Bucyrus hydraulic track drills are designed with a sturdy frame for long life and high availability, and an advanced carousel rod changer for fast cycle times. Boom extensions on hydraulic track drills enhance drill pattern coverage. With ground-level access to service points, maintenance is quick and convenient, increasing uptime and productivity levels. At the core of our hydraulic track drills is a comprehensive line of proven Bucyrus rock drills that offer the fewest internal parts in the industry and convenient field serviceability, increasing uptime for the most effective drilling capabilities.

Vast Pattern Coverage

Bucyrus offers a variety of configurations that enhance pattern coverage, allowing you to drill more with less set-up time required. Solid boom extensions enhance drilling by providing up to an additional 1.5 m (5 ft) of pattern coverage. Capable of working on a tight bench and on steep inclines, the 360º turntable on the R20T provides unmatched pattern flexibility and outstanding drill stability. The optional knuckle boom extends reach to 5.8 m (19.25 ft) and is used in rough terrain to reach up, down and over objects.

Advanced Drilling Aid

Bucyrus offers a drilling control system that features anti-jam, anti-plunge and anti-plug functionality. As rock conditions change, the system adjusts drill parameters to improve performance and reduce stress on consumables, encouraging long life.

Sturdy Frame

The Bucyrus track drill main frame is a box-section design comprised of 4 in x 8 in x ½ in rectangular steel tubing, heavily reinforced in high-stress areas.

Robust Boom

The boom features an improved weldment design, and the square tubing is reinforced in heavily loaded areas to provide thousands of hours of trouble-free service.

Superior Carousel Rod Changer

Bucyrus has improved rod change time with innovation that allows the rock drill to move along the feed faster. Patented carousel and single rod change designs further improve hydraulic track drill productivity. The newly designed carousel rod changer reduces rod change time by more than 75% from previous linear models. Enhancing rod change speed are powerful dual rod grippers and a unique gate design that allows a rod and gate to move simultaneously.

The new carousel rod changer requires no lubrication and is innovatively engineered for long life and high availability with a corrosion-resistant coating on the wear parts such as rotating mechanisms and pivot pins.

Indexing and locking rods concurrently, the rod changer is faster, has more precise positioning and eliminates the need for electric sensors.

Because the new carousel rod changer weighs less, the boom extension can reach farther and can drill deeper (typically 30 m/98 ft) because the rod changer can hold more rods.

With the Bucyrus carousel rod changer, you can drill holes as close as 61 cm (24 in) to the highwall, which is 50% closer than with the linear rod changer.

The single rod changer option reduces cycle time with two rod grippers that allow you to quickly drill up to 10 m (32.8 ft) holes with no additional set-up.

Strong Feed

The durably constructed feed is an improved design that incorporates high-strength, low-alloy steel “C” channel and plate webbing. Wear pad materials are specified for compatibility with the steel channel to give extended life.

Adjustable Feed Rest

To assist during tramming, the feed position height can be adjusted to best accommodate an operator’s field of view.

Feed Table Retaining Device

The unique design of the feed table incorporates a retaining device that keeps the feed secure.

Ergonomic Cab Design

All Bucyrus hydraulic track drills have cabs with rollover and/or falling object protection (ROPS/FOPS), as well as a comfortable operator’s chair, ample legroom, excellent visibility and responsive controls for increased productivity. All cabs are designed for front window push-out, which offers a second exit for the operator in case of emergency. The cab is also equipped with an emergency stop for immediate shutdown.

Dust Control System

Able to be positioned faster and more efficiently, the Bucyrus dust control system is designed with quick-release pins in place of bolts.

Bright LED Floodlights

The new Bucyrus LED lighting system provides bright, generous light so operators have greater visibility. A new boom lamp ensures the drill hole is always illuminated, and additional lamps are supplemented to assist in drill repositioning.

Ready Accessibility

Service points such as the engine oil fill, as well as air, fuel and dust collector filters provide convenient ground-level access. This eliminates the need for a second person or step aid when performing maintenance.

All electrical wires are grouped, color-coded and numbered every six inches. The circuit panel is sealed for protection from dust, and is well-organized and easy to access.

The hydraulic hoses are neatly arranged, securely held and identified on the machine and on the maintenance drawing for fast, easy service.

Owner Serviceable

With a simple design that uses fewer parts than competitor drills, Bucyrus rock drills are designed to be serviced or resealed at a customer’s repair shop or in the field. That eliminates the need for special clean rooms or sending a drill to a manufacturer or specialty shop, thereby increasing uptime and reducing service cost.

Proven

The rock drills’ field-proven design was first introduced by the Gardner-Denver Company, which designed and sold the first rock drill line in the 1970s. Since then, it has been continually improved to enhance capabilities for high productivity. This technology is owned by Bucyrus today.

Durable Design

Many of the original features that enhance Bucyrus rock drill durability are still in use today, including:n High-alloy steel, carburized and hardened main body or cylindern Hammer bearings, which are pressed into the main cylinder base,
