About the Workshop
Technologies used for electric power Transmission and control are experiencing a major
change due to the rapid growth of new energy generation technologies (renewables energy
resources). Integration of renewable energy resources improves the performance of the
electric transmission system in terms of better reliability and eco-green power generation.
However, the operation and control of the electric power system becomes very challengingduring their integration.
Smart grid technologies can help manage the unpredictability of wind and solar to help
alleviate reliability and stability issues caused by power fluctuations. This will become
increasingly important as more wind and solar power is connected to the grid.
This workshop will address various important issues related to operation of grid &
integration of renewable energy resources such as stability, power quality, operation
and control, protection, regulatory and market related issues.
The workshop is directed towards researchers, power utilities, consultants, designers &
practicing engineers, large power consumers/industries, manufacturers and academic
and research institutes involved in application, maintenance & development of wind
farms and power system integrations.

CPRI'S PROFILE
Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) set up in 1960 by the Government of India, functions as a
National organization for applied research in power sector and also serves as an Independent Laboratory
for testing and certification of power equipment. CPRI provides consultancy services on various facets of
power sector. CPRI has expertise in the area of Simulation, System Analysis and Testing and
Diagnostics. CPRI laboratories have modern equipment needed for Power system simulation, Short
circuit testing, Diagnostics of equipment, Materials engineering, Seismic qualification etc. The institute
has made immense contribution to the advancement of research and development in power sector besides
finding solution to various problems faced by power utilities and industries in areas of transmission and
distribution.
CPRI is continually setting new standards in training and continuing education from basic theoretical
nformation to practical hands-on electrical equipment training. CPRI courses have made substantial
mpact on the level of training and education to India's electricity utilities, manufacturing companies,
transmission and distribution companies.
Meera K S, Joint Director, Power System Division (PSD), CPRI, Bangalore.
She has been working in CPRI for the last 26 years & having an expertise in the
areas of modeling and simulation of power systems for transmission planning
studies, system operation and control, simulation using Real Time Digital
Simulator (RTDS), Protection System studies and Grid integration of
renewables. Her research areas of interest are FACTS controllers & HVDC.
Mr. Manohar Singh, Engineering Officer, Power System Division (PSD),
CPRI, Bangalore.
Manohar Singh is working as engineering officer in the power system division
of CPRI, Bangalore. He is involved in consultancy services in the power sector.
Prior to joining the CPRI, he had completed his B. Tech. form GCET, Jammu,
M. Tech. IIT Roorkee. Currently he is doing Ph. D from the IIT Delhi. He has
published many papers in international journals, conferences in India and
abroad. His areas of interest are power system protection, distributed
generation and application of AI for power system.
