1. EquipmentThe most efficient grinding equipment in the world
Metso designs and manufactures a com-prehensive line of grinding equipment as mills, classifiers, and related accessories for both wet and dry grinding systems. We offer a complete spectrum of engineering services for our equipment.
Metso has the most mature stirred milling technologies, the largest installed base in terms of quantity of units and installed power and a continuous development program.
The stirred milling technologies currently available can be divided into two sub-categories: gravity-induced and fluidized. Gravity-induced stirred mills initiate a ball charge motion via the rotational movement of a screw to provide a size reduction mechanism. In contrast, fluidized stirred mills use a rotational movement to fluidize a media-slurry mixture, resulting in a size reduction mechanism.
The type of mill and the circuit configur-ation are intrinsic to maximizing the grade and recovery profile of an ore. Metso has both stirred milling technologies in the Vertimill and the Stirred Media Detritor (SMD), allowing Metso to offer the optimum equipment solution for the circuit.
5
Energy efficient Vertimill®Vertimills are globally recognized as energy efficient grinding machines and have been proven to grind more efficiently than ball mills with feeds as coarse as 6 mm to products finer than 20 microns. In addition to grind efficiency, reduced media consumption, lower installation cost, minimal maintenance, and minimal liner wear give the Metso Vertimill the lowest total cost of ownership for many applications, substantially improving the profitability of concentrators.
The Vertimill is a unique product offered exclusively by Metso. The technology was originally developed in the 1950’s. Metso successfully developed and implemented the technology in the first large scale metallic operations in 1980. In the thirty years since this, the Vertimill has obtained the largest installed base of any stirred milling technology.
• Savings in energy and mill media consumption • Replaces the inefficient final ball grinding stage• Three decades of successful VERTIMILL® applications, 300+ units in operation• From 15 to over 3,000 kW• Lowest cost for grinding feed sizes up to 6 mm• Product size down to 20 micron• Minimal installation, operational and maintenance costs
Hydraulic Roller Crusher– efficiency and flexibilityThe use of high crushing pressure on material is the most efficient way to perform comminution, guaranteeing a high reduction ratio. The Metso HRC follows this principle which ensures low operating costs by combining a low circulating load, high energy efficiency and low liner wear.
The innovative design of the Metso HRC enables the replacement of linings with nothing but a partial disassembly of the machine, considerably minimizing the downtime involved in performing this operation. The HRC has been designed to meet the highest safety standards and has features such as protection on moving parts and hydraulic overload protection.
Flotation systems contributing to the efficiencyMetso offers equipment and solutions for all enrichment and upgrading applications including classification, agitation, flotation, magnetic separation, sedimentation and filtration.
• RCS flotation machines. The latest design to use the circular tank concept combining the benefits of circular cells with the unique features of the mechanism to create the ideal conditions to maximize flotation performance for all roughing, cleaning
and scavenging duties. • DR flotation machines. Increases effective aeration through super- charging.• Flotation columns. For the past two decades columns have proven their ability to produce higher concentrate grades compared with conventional mechanical flotation cells.• Flotation pumps. The Sala series of vertical froth pumps VF has been designed to increase the pumpability of frothy suspensions.
Dry magnetic separationFlexible and cost-effectiveOften, dry magnetic separation can be more flexible than conventional wet magnetic separation and can provide large savings in grinding costs by recovering the valuable minerals at an early process stage.
Metso’s efficient dry drum magnetic separators for cobbing consist of a stationary magnetic yoke with a number of permanent magnets placed inside a rotating drum of non-magnetic material.
Metsos solutions to screeningWe offer screens for both wet and dry applications, and the screening media for optimum end product quality. Our equipment is easily adaptable for stationary and mobile crushing plants.

ATTACHMENT 1 - FLOWSHEET EXAMPLE
Our engineering solutions are based on a holistic and deep process knowledge, from scoping study to full implementation. Creating your plant design, the Metso unique simulation tools tailor the process to your requirements. The use of such tools is a prerequisite for maximum return on investment for your project.
Metso ProSim is a powerful steady-state and dynamic circuit modeling tool, allowing evaluation of alternate flowsheets and circuit design.
Metso Engineering for Conceptual studyA conceptual study is a high level, low cost identification and evaluation of potential business opportunities. The aim is to develop process solutions to achieve your long-term production targets. The study shows whether or not there is a business case that exceeds the investment criteria hurdle. You will get an initial indication of project worth and whether additional exploration and/or test work is justified.
We analyze the key parameters for input, production and output, and establish the optimised scope. After this phase
of the study, you determine whether or not to proceed to the next phase; a Pre Feasibility study.
Metso Engineering for Pre Feasibility studyWhen you need a PFS to assess the technical feasibility and investment potential, Metso can develop the best techno-economical process solution.
The client delivers global project requirements, such as production capacity, project schedule, product quality required by the market and constraints. Metso studies the alternative technical solutions and develops the recommended process for the ore samples from the deposit to be mined. The next step is to design the main process equipment. A plant layout drawing is developed, requiring a new building or for retrofitting into an existing plant, as required by the client.
Metso Engineering for Feasibility studyWe design the plant to assess capital and operating costs. An extended study is performed on larger ore samples to
minimize the risk. Based on the assessed risk of the process design, a pilot plant may be designed and operated for a longer period of time.
The process description, instrumentation list, control system philosophy and design are drawn up. Now we can design the plant with the process equipment layout, foundations, piping, steel structures, electrical diagrams etc., all adding up to a full engineering documentation package.
Implementation For Metso, implementation means constructing and commissioning the plant within project cost and schedule. Metso offers equipment supply, supervision and commissioning support.
We will supply all the materials sourced from Metso and our product lines will provide supervision for process equipment installation and commissioning. The recommended spares and wear materials are supplied as the plant nears completion.
Metso offer assistance with process com-missioning for a fast production ramp up.

As the market leader in the desig and manufacture of grinding and separation equipment, Metso know how to best control them - and thus to offer you a competitive advantage.
Metso process and automation know-how means productivity improvement. We are experts in integrating automation systems, from Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering to Advanced Process Control. Our solutions are always based on your existing equipment and standards.
PCD – Process Control DiagramThe PCD is the design of the control and instrumentation base required for your process with automation. Our engineers study the process design and operational data. Based on mass balances and other data, the instrumentation required to effectively control your process is chosen.
DCS - Distributed Control Sys-tem – centralized informationThe benefits of a DCS system are many: you get process data monitored, analyzed and presented where it is needed, for improved operations management. With the sensors and motor controls implemented it allows the process to be continuously controlled based on the readings from the process instruments.
The best possible pay-back from automation is Metso DNA process control system, a single automation system for all functions – process, machine, drive and quality controls.
APC -Advanced Process Control - an autopilot Advanced Process Control is essentially a mature technology and is installed in many plants around the world. Metso’s Optimizing Control System (OCS©) software is a leader in the field. The
OCS© system is designed to allow for complex analysis, e.g. using process data on-line with statistical models, linear programming with constraints, neural networks, fuzzy logic, soft sensor algorithms. The OCS© will typically result in several percentages improvement in productivity.
