Insulate for your peace and quiet

Insulation also helps to increase your family’sprotection in the event of fire. Naturally nonflammable, mineral wools do not give off anynoxious fumes. They limit the propagation offlames and delay the spread of fire. Inorganic, they are not attacked by bacteria, or parasites.Non-hydrophilic, they are unaffected bywater. Insulating products thus provideoptimum protection, year after year.

Insulate for your protection

We live in a noisy world and are exposed to soundthat affects our quality of life seven days a week. The challenge for architects, acoustic consultants and home builders is to create quieter buildings.Leader in insulation solutions, the Saint-Gobain Insulation Branch provides efficient systems to control noise and absorb sound.

Panels, blankets, and shells of mineral wool are used to insulate industrial facilities and the buildings housing them(roofs, cladding and decking). Able to withstand very hightemperatures, they are also used for industrial and technicalthermal insulation.Given their dimensional stability and density, they can be usedfor capping and as acoustic baffles for pipes and machines.

In transport

Isover provides systems based on mineral wool with characteristicsthat have been specifically adapted to the needs of each application:roofs, walls, partitions, floors, and of course, pipes and ventilationducts: a complete range of solutions for new homes and the renovationmarket. The requirements of the various parts of a building aredifferent, and building practices vary from one country to another. However, with its extensive experience in many countries around the world, and its broad range of materials and products, Isover is constantly striving to develop the most appropriate solutions.

Isover best fulfills its mission where

people need to feel at ease:

well-being through insulation.

At home

In industry

Isover is present in all forms of transport: from the smallestcars to the fastest trains and the largest aircraft carriers.

In air conditioning systems

Air conditioning ducts pass overhead, concealed above ceilings. That’s how we stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Isoverproducts are used to stop energy loss and to absorb noisesgenerated by the system.

As discreet as they areeffective, Isover insulationsystems protect from coldand noise and helpimprove a structure’sresistance to fire. Hiddenfrom view, they arenonetheless, foundeverywhere.

Comfort and protection.

The Insulation Branch manufactures growth media under the Cultilène

brand. Mineral wool is used instead of soil in greenhouses providing

plants with ideal growing conditions. Growth media improve yields,

sow-to-harvest times, and the quality of the vegetables and flowers

produced.

Mineral wool… in greenhouses!

At school or the office, in sports centers or hospitals

In classrooms, offices and multipurpose venues, Ecophon andEurocoustic ceilings combine esthetic appearance with acoustic andthermal performance. They provide successful solutions that improvelistening conditions by reducing noise levels. In sports centers, theylimit sound reverberation while being impact resistant. In swimmingpools, in school courtyards and gymnasiums they maintain perfectmechanical strength, whatever the ambient humidity. In hospitals, clinics and laboratories, they provide acoustic comfortwhile respecting cleanness, hygiene and safety requirements. API and Gabelex metal ceilings and grids also provide aestheticinterior systems.

Save natural resources

Isover utilizes natural and

abundant rawmaterials.

Respect for the environment is a

prime concern for Isover from the

extraction of raw materials all the

way to product installation.

12

The protection of our planet’s ecosystem is dependenton protecting air, water and soil quality. Isoverinsulation products are manufactured from sand andbasalt. Both these raw materials are abundantlyavailable in the natural environment. Reflecting theInsulation Branch’s general environmentally friendlyapproach, a rigorous policy for zero liquid waste, scrubbed gases and solid waste treatment has beenimplemented at all Isover facilities. The Insulation Branch has introduced appropriatetechnology at its plants to comply with environmentalregulations and all employees have been made awareto ensure their full and effective commitment.

13

Rising sea levels, worsening climatic conditions, natural disasters, the greenhouse effect and acidrain are serious threats for the long-term survival of our planet.Efficient insulation reduces the emission of carbondioxide (CO2) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) in theatmosphere by more than one half, thereby helpingprotect the environment.

The Insulation Branch’s number one priority is the safety of all itsemployees, as reflected in an ambitious and concerted policy. Ateach production facility, a safety coordinator contributes tointegrating safety in a global production process and involvingemployees in safe manufacturing and working practices. The

Insulation Branch also measures, at regular intervals, the level of exposure of its employees to noise, dustand all other physical and chemical agents, and to constantly reduce the level of risk at all workstations.

Thinking of future generations

Manufacture healthy products safely

In just a few months, the energy required to manufacture glass wool

is recovered through the economy it provides. After 50 years,

the ratio of energy saved to energy consumed is more than 100!

Good insulation means less pollution!

Recycled glass suppliesbetween 60 and 80 percent ofthe raw materials used for theproduction of glass wool.

The Optima Sonic systemprovides an acoustic insulation

system for situations wherespace is at a premium.

Constantly evolving processesInvented in 1957, the TEL fiber process revolutionized theinsulation world. In 1981, Isover launched TELSTAR, the second-generation glass wool that has since become a standard worldwide. In 2003, the glass wool fiber process was further improved.THERMISTAR glass wool provides heat resistance above thatpreviously manufactured. In 2004, Isover launched ULTIMATE, an innovative product range that can withstand temperatures of 650°C, while retaining the specific advantages of glass wool, namely, light weight, elasticity, compression, and the absence of slugs.

Isover’s patentedpalletization is now used

throughout ourEuropean network.

Day after day, Isover is advancing

Isover masters two mineral wool manufacturing techniques:glass and stone. These techniques involve melting sand, rockand slag to form fibers. The TEL fiber process (glass wool)combines centrifugal spinning of glass with refining of fibersin a hot gas stream.Melted at more than 1,400°C, the glass flows onto the spinner, which converts it into fibers under the dual effects of centrifugation and aerodynamic attenuation. The sized fibers are then collected on a conveyor and fed through a furnace where the binder polymerizes. The result is a blanket of matted glass fibers that traps air toprovide thermal and acoustic insulation, while being highlycompressible and very soft to touch. Isover’s know-how isused throughout the world through Branch companies ortechnology licenses.

Specialists in insulation since 1936
