    success in the future.

Once Piers had accumulated a deep understanding of corporate and venture

capital law and corporate finance, he left a well-paid job in investment banking

to start an internet enterprise as he recognised the enormous and disruptive

opportunity the internet posed. Since leaving the City, Piers has been involved

Folashade OyewoleI am a second year medical student at Imperial College London.

As President of Imperial College Londons Afro-Caribbean

Society 2013-14, I was able to develop my leadership skills

to a great extent whilst in a position of high scrutiny.

I organised a number of events including our annual culture

show production: Afrogala: The Untold Stories. The role

was a challenge that I thoroughly enjoyed as it exposed me

to a plethora of knowledge in the form of team-buildingand event-planning, paired with practical skills ranging from financial planning

to strategy & marketing. I worked closely with our Public Relations Officer, for

example, to raise over 15 000 in sponsorship for the society.

I have also acted as a mentor for young students from underprivileged backgrounds

in secondary school alongside an organisation called IntoUniversity. The aim

of the scheme was to help children begin to think about higher education from

an early age in order to better prepare them for the challenges that they mayface. Furthermore, I have been able to develop my team-working skills an active

member of the Imperial College School of Medicine Netball Team. This has taught

me the importance of strategizing in a high-pressured environment to ensure

the success of a team. Ultimately, I am extremely interested in mentoring young

people and inspiring them to be the next generation of Leaders.
