Over the past ten years of Brits Off Broadway we have endeavored to maintaina level of excellence in the productions, so that they can truly claim to representthe very best of British theatre. Sometimes the plays and their authors areknown; most of them are not – we always try to bring you new writers, actorsand directors, some of whom will become stars in their own fields. DirectorJohn Tiffany (Black Watch, Once, Glass Menagerie) and choreographer andmovement director Steven Hoggett (Black Watch, American Idiot, Once) bothhad their first New York outings in Brits Off Broadway 2004!

And of course Sir Alan Ayckbourn, already a star in the writing firmament, made his New York directing debut at 59E59 with Private Fears in PublicPlaces and has returned four times since. (We hope to lure him back againin 2016!). Last year’s Brits Off Broadway production of Alan Ayckbourn’sArrivals and Departures made both TIME Magazine’s Top Ten of 2014 andBen Brantley’s list of the Best of 2014 in The New York Times.

How will this year’s smaller but distinguished British army fare in the bestof 2015? As long as they feature high on your personal lists we will bevery happy!

And where better to place your bets than on two veritable giants of the Britishstage — Simon Callow and Edward Petherbridge?

Simon was the original Mozart in Amadeus at London’s National Theatrein 1979, but became known worldwide through Four Weddings andA Funeral. His extensive theatre and movie credits you will find in yourE:Bill when you come to see him blossom as Pauline in Tuesdays at Tesco’s!

Twice Tony-nominated Edward (in 1982 for The Life and Adventures ofNicholas Nickleby and in 1985 for Strange Interlude) joins Told by an Idiot’sPaul Hunter in My Perfect Mind, one of the most extraordinary evenings youwill have the pleasure of enjoying this year — that is if, like Edward, you viewcomedy as a serious business — and prefer it tinged with a little Shakespeare, well done!

Ten other outstanding performances, already acclaimed in the UK,await you in four wildly contrasting productions.

This Brits Off Broadway may just have the most pleasing variety of playswe have ever presented.

From Dundee and Scotland’s Outer Hebrides (In My Father’s Words) andthe Highland capital city of Inverness (The Tailor of Inverness) to Bolton inLancashire (One Hand Clapping) and the Ovalhouse in London (Cuddles)intriguing, fascinating tales await you!

I look forward to hearing what you think of it all in the E:Bar afterwards— with the casts!

Happy Brits!

Imagine a world without sunlight. A world where Harry Potter,Bilbo Baggins and the cast of Dante’s Inferno are real;where princes with adjectives instead of names seducebeautiful princesses against the odds. A world crammed fullof storybook characters but with just one living, breathinghuman being to cuddle. Welcome to Eve’s world.
