Getting Around
By SkyTrain The City of Vancouver and surrounding parts of the Lower Mainland are linked by a completely automated (no drivers required!) light rapid-transit system called SkyTrain. Visitors love the Canada Line in particular because it provides a super-fast rapid rail link between downtown Vancouver and the Vancouver International Airport in Richmond. 604.953.3333 | translink.ca Image: Tim Adams
No vehicle? No problem! Vancouver provides many public transit options – plus fun alternatives to driving altogether – to help locals and visitors alike get around!
By Tour Operator Let an expert show you around! Vancouver tour operators know this city like the back of their hands – and are more than happy to do the driving for you while pointing out all of the most notable and spectacular sights and landmarks!

Downtown
DowntownTake SkyTrain rapid transit to one of six downtown stations in the city’s core. Duck into Pacific Centre, Sinclair Centre or Royal Centre for the latest fashions, electronics and home décor or stroll along Robson and Alberni streets for gorgeous designer wear. Granville Street comes alive at night with eateries, nightclubs and live-music joints. thedva.ca | downtownvancouver.net (Map 1) Image: Downtown Vancouver Association
From fabulous shopping
to fresh food, we’ve gathered details about the best areas of the city to help you plan your stay. Grab your map and hop in a car,
call a cab or take public transit – you won’t be disappointed by Vancouver’s many unique offerings.
ChinatownVancouver boasts one of the world’s largest Chinatowns, packed with vibrant attractions (the West Han Dynasty Bell and Jimi Hendrix Shrine), events (the Chinese New Year Parade) and culture (the Chinese Cultural Centre Museum and Archives) as well as some of the most majestic architecture and finest Asian restaurants in the city. vancouver-chinatown.com (Map 1, B11-C12)
Railtown Industrial-chic Railtown may be one of Vancouver’s trendiest neighbourhoods du jour, but it’s also one of the oldest areas in the city. Defined by working rail yards to the north, this tiny up-and-coming district includes independent artist studios and designer workshops, creative-company offices and some of the yummiest under-the-radar eateries and coolest nightspots in town. DowntownGeorgia StreetGeorgia Street was named in 1886 after the Strait of Georgia, and ran between Chilco and Beatty Streets. After the first Georgia Viaduct opened in 1915, the street’s eastern end was connected to Harris Street, and Harris Street was subsequently renamed East Georgia Street.
Georgia Street is an important gateway into Vancouver. Every day, it welcomes thousands of people into the city for work, to visit, and to and from Stanley Park. It also connects people to three neighbourhoods – the West End, Coal Harbour and Downtown.
Starting from its western terminus at Chilco Street by the edge of Stanley Park, Georgia Street runs southeast, separating the West End from the Coal Harbour neighbourhood. It then runs through the Financial District; landmarks and major skyscrapers along the way include Living Shangri-La (the city’s tallest building), Trump International Hotel and Tower, Royal Centre, 666 Burrard tower, Hotel Vancouver and upscale shops, the HSBC Canada Building, the Vancouver Art Gallery, Georgia Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel, Pacific Centre, the Granville Entertainment District, Scotia Tower, and the Canada Post headquarters.

Granville IslandCollingwood NeighbourhoodLocated at the crossroads between Burnaby and Vancouver, the Collingwood BIA has provided a connection for people and places since the first streetcar route passed through in 1906. The BIA offers a variety of small, independent eateries and personal service businesses, as well household staples like grocery, pharmacy, liquor and housewares. A predominately family-oriented community, residents tend to have more children per family and larger household sizes than the rest of the city. Several new housing developments near Joyce-Collingwood Skytrain Station are helping the area continue to grow as a friendly urban village.

Capilano Bridge The mountain backdrop to North Vancouver is the setting for spectacular attractions and parks. The regions oldest attraction, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, high above the Capilano canyon, added the exciting “Cliffwalk” attraction in 2011, that is sure to give you a thrill. The other major attraction on the NorthShore is Grouse Mountain Resort’s Skyride. Open year round, you will be whisked up 1,200 metres (3,960 feet) to the top of the mountain for stunning views, a Grizzly bear refuge, and in season, hiking and skiing. You might even be tempted to hike the “Grouse Grind,” a strenuous 2.9 kilometre (1.8 mile) trail with an elevation gain of 853 metres (2,800 feet).

North Shore & Lower LonsdaleThe North Shore – with breathtaking mountains and stunning shorelines – is an outdoor playground interspersed with fine dining and shopping options. Its oldest neighbourhood, Lower Lonsdale, includes a bustling pier, a public market, specialty shops and restaurants to satisfy every craving. A short drive from downtown Vancouver over the Lions Gate Bridge, the North Shore makes for a perfect day trip away from the hustle and bustle of the city. vancouversnorthshore.com | lonsdalequay.com

Vancouver Fall 2019 | visitorschoice.com
RichmondImmediately south of the City of Vancouver, many visitors will start their visit in Richmond, home to Vancouver International Airport. An impressive public art program welcomes newcomers, with pieces that include the stunningBill Reid sculpture, “The Spirit of Haida Gwaii.”
But the City of Richmond has much more to offer visitors than just great air access! For over 100 years, the excited screech of seagulls has signaled the unloading of the day’s catch
of salmon on the docks of the fishing village of Steveston, Richmond’s historic fishing community on the south arm of the Fraser River. Visitors can stroll the boardwalk and buy fish fresh off the boat, or opt for fish ‘n’ chips for lunch in view of the water. Or go looking for larger marine life with a whale watching tour.
Nearby, the impressive Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site has been meticulously restored and is now an impressive museum dedicated to the fishing industry.
teveston’s heritage homes and waterfront walks is in complete contrast to the bright lights and excitement of Richmond’s city centre, which a vibrant Asian community has helped shape. Here you’ll find the city’s dramatic new city hall complex, an amazing array of shops and restaurants where award-winning dim sum, Vietnamese pho, and seafood with a twist will satisfy any appetite. The city’s many malls - legendary for their size and variety - bring you a world of shopping not found anywhere else in the Lower Mainland.
Richmond’s exciting cultural life is seen in its museums, galleries and professional theatre. The Asian influence is expressed in the magnificent Buddhist temple complex and gardens of the International Buddhist Society
on Steveston Highway. For those looking for more natural attractions, the city’s parks provide a number of recreational opportunities from field sports, nature walks and golfing. The extensive network of dykes protecting the city from the river, have become popular walking and biking trails and provide the perfect place to observe bald eagles and other bird life of the tidal flats.
There’s always something fun to do, whether it’s taking a whale watching tour, watching the fishing boats dock in the busy marina, or visiting the year-round Farmers & ArtisansMarket (happening every other Sunday) to discover artistic treasures and homemade treats. Indigenous Attractions
The Museum of Anthropology at UBCKnown for its spectacular architecture and unique setting on the cliffs of Point Grey in Vancouver, this museum is home to one of the world’s finest collections of rare Aboriginal artifacts and artwork. MOA houses over 40,000 ethnographic objects from almost every part of the world, including Bill Reid’s best-known sculpture, The Raven and the First Men. Fun fact: you’ll find an illustration of his sculpture on the $20 bill (from 2001 – 2006). in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown.
Discover the ancient wisdom and traditions of the region’s First Nations. Through interpretive centres, archaeological sites, museums, galleries, guided First
Nations adventure tours and cultural performances you’ll come to understand how these dynamic cultures have evolved through history.
Bill Reid Gallery The Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art presents Royal Portrait , a solo exhibition of carvings, jewellery, and portraits by Morgan Asoyuf (Tsm’syen) on display from October 1 –January 19, 2020, honouring the Indigenous matriarchs in her life, Asoyuf challenges the classical definition of the “royal portrait” with new photographs of activists wearing crowns, frontlets, and headdresses. 639 Hornby Street | 604.682.3455 billreidgallery.ca (Map 1, D8)

Vancouver’s dining scene caters to every palate.
Whether you’re looking for local produce, fresh seafood
or trendy tapas, it’s all within easy reach.
Fresh & LocalSurrounded by lush agricultural lands and seafood-rich waters, fresh cuisine is a huge selling point in Vancouver. The 100-Mile Diet and Ocean Wise program were both born in B.C., as was Green Table – a network of sustainable restaurants that pledge to reduce their environmental footprint by serving local foods, creating less waste, reducing water usage and supporting likeminded suppliers.
