BC DEMOGRAPHICS

• Average age of BC resident today is 40.7 years (2009)

• Average will continue rise as population ages and birth rates decline

• By 2011 more people exiting the workforce than entering it

• 1 million more jobs in BC than people to fill them

• Declining birth rates affect enrolment, falling by 50,000 students (2001-

2007) in BC’s public schools (from a population of close to 500,000).

• K-12 set to lose over 7000 students this year.
