It is a delight to welcome you to essenTIaLLY danCe 2009. We have taken special pleasure this year to showcase not only our performance students but also the work of some of our graduates who currently are or have been practising as choreographers and performers themselves. Clare dyson (1992) and Fiona Malone (1994) are independent choreographers working out of Brisbane and sydney respectively, Yolande Brown (1998) is currently performing with Bangarra dance Company and angus Lugsdin (1993) is the Coordinator of the Queensland dance school of excellence. They have each created short new works as tasters for our final year students challenging them with different styles and approaches to making dance work. These students also expand their networks by being introduced to our alumni and the industry.
another past student Lesley Livesey and his partner Kym stokes, currently MFa students, have shared their extensive knowledge as aerial artists working in the commercial field and created training programmes for our students to prepare them for the specialist skills needed for this aerial dance. This is a great opportunity for these students to diversify their practice.
QUT dance was proud to receive an invitation to perform again this year at the prestigious Guangdong Modern dance Festival in China and our third year students will be travelling in July to participate with their peers – an invaluable experience and cultural exchange opportunity for them.
Csaba Buday and I have had the pleasure of working with our first year and second year performance students, offering them fresh opportunities for artistic growth in both the creation and performance of our contemporary works. Csaba is also making a new work for expressions dance Company’s The dance Makers season in august this year – a great link for QUT with our local professional dance company.
We hope you enjoy the talent and enthusiasm of our many young students in this evening of new and revisited dance works and thank you for encouraging their development through your ongoing support.
