Dear Parents/Guardians: Happy New Year and welcome to 2019! The Brinton Staff and I hope that you had a great winter break. Parent teacher conferences are just about ready to begin and I want to thank all the par-ents that will make it a priority to meet with your child’s teacher. Parent teacher conferences are an important part of your child’s education. The conference time gives you an opportunity to learn about your student’s academic, social, and behavioral progress as well as the school’s curriculum and programs. Your child will benefit from a strong parent-teacher partnership. Good communica-tion is the cornerstone of this partnership! Second semester is a time when much of the instruction our teachers provide for our students begins to show real fruit. Students make considerable gains in their academics and this is re
flected in academic assessments that come in April. But students cannot learn to their highest potential if they are not in school. Children should come to school every day unless they are ill. Not only is it the best way to create a consistent learn-ing environment, it is the law. Brinton follows Arizona State laws (ARS 15-802.A & 803.A) with regard to attendance and truancy. A student is “habitually truant” if they have five or more unexcused ab-sences from school and they can be classi-fied as having “excessive absences” when the number of days missed per year reaches eighteen, excused or unexcused. Thank you for your continued support of making Brinton School a wonderful place to work and learn. Principal,
Doreen Brindley
BRINTON YEARBOOKS Brinton Yearbooks may be purchased early for $13.00 each anytime. Bring a check or money order payable to Brinton PTO to the office or your child’s teacher with their name and room num-ber. Yearbooks will be deliv-ered mid May.

Please review these rules with your students if you
allow your child to carry a cell phone.
1. All cell phones must be turned off upon arrival at
the school grounds (at the sidewalk perimeter).
2. Cell phones are put away in a backpack. Cell
phones are never out or in use while a student is
on campus.
3. If a student is observed using a cell phone or if it
rings on campus it will be confiscated and given to
the principal.
4. A parent will be required to come to school to pick
up the phone.
5. The school is not responsible for cell phone theft
or damage.
6. A student may receive discipline consequences for
not following this policy.
If you have any concerns or questions, you may make
an appointment to visit our principal, Doreen Brind-
ley, regarding this policy. Thank you for your support
in making Brinton School a safe learning environment.
State law requires schools to survey all parents annually, giving you the op-portunity to rate the quality of service received at your student’s school This year we are sending out the Par-ent and Student Quality Service Sur-veys online rather than in print. The parent surveys will be sent on January 7, 2019. We will do periodic reminders to those who have not responded. The survey will close on February 23. The parent surveys will have the school identified with 2 demographic items and 8 questions. Please help us meet one of our school goals by completing your Parent Qual-ity Service Survey. Your input is wel-comed and appreciated.

Gently Used Clothing Needed
The nurses office is asking for donated, clean, gently
used clothing and jackets for some of our students.
They are running low on sizes especially pants for our
little ones.
Brinton’s 1st Graders Perform at SOM
First graders from Mrs. Garcia’s, Ms. Bressel’s and
Ms. Neuman’s classes entertained the audience with
their rendition of “All I Want for Christmas is My
Two Front Teeth” and “I Want A Hippopotamus for
Christmas”. They did their best spreading Christ-
mas Cheer, by singing loud for all to hear." ( a great
line borrowed from Elf)

January Trivia: January is named after the Roman god, Janus, the god of doors because this month is the door to
the year. The Roman god Janus represents all beginnings and possesses the ability to see all things past and future.
