Stewardship: The End Easter Ends Today! We have completed the transformation. We have been given a new heart and have been made into the image and likeness of Christ.

We have been Christified! The purpose of stewardship is not to accomplish tasks, give money, and do service projects. Stewardship is the interior transformation of our hearts in which we become Christ-Like. That is why repentance is a radical re-orientation of our hearts into the image and likeness of Christ. This was lost by Adam and Eve, and it is restored to us by Jesus and Mary. Jesus the New Adam, Mary the New Eve brings forth a new creation. That is why the heart of stewardship is not merely using our time, talent, and treasure well — not even for God and his service. True stewardship opens our hearts to the power of the Holy Sprit to makes us one in Christ.

The 3 Biggest Lies of The Devil Debunked

1. Happiness comes from the things of this world – Truth: True happiness is a gift of God and does not come from this

world. Of course, aspects of our life (food, prestige and even family) are not “evil,” but simply limited.

2. Our natural instincts are evil and dangerous – Truth: We need to recognize that our natural instincts (sex, hunger,

emotions, etc.) are not bad. We must allow them to be educated and elevated toward their fulfillment in Christ.

3. We have to earn God’s love – Truth: In our relationship with God, we must come to realize that true love is a

gratuitous gift that we are given in the midst of our sin.

“Our job is to Love Others without stopping To Inquire whether or not they Are Worthy.” – Thomas Merton

How Should We Read the Bible?

The Catholic Church teaches that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, that “God is the author of Sacred Scripture.” Through the Holy Spirit, Various people were called to use their talents to write down “whatever he wanted written, and no more.” (CCC, 105-106; DV, 11)

Saint Paul called the Church the “pillar and foundation of the truth.” (1Timothy 3:15) Let’s look at how the church teaches us to interpret Scripture:

• Consider the period, culture and kind of writing. • Read parts of Scripture in the context of the whole message. The Bible is made up of books that are very different in

style – but it is one work because the parts all point towards God’s plan, with Jesus at the center and heart. • Pay attention to the truths of faith expressed in Scripture. Great truths are always consistent with one another. Both

the Old and New Testaments present love for God and love for one’s neighbor as guiding principles of God’s love.

We can understand God’s message to us when we know how to interpret Scripture in the way God intended.

Praying the Psalms The book of Psalms is easy to find – it is almost in the exact center of the Bible. Find a psalm of thanksgiving and pray it together as a family, perhaps before a meal. You may wish to take turns reading, alternating lines or verses as you pray.

The Preface The exchange that takes place after the priest washes his hands and asks God to not only accept our offering but to make our offering acceptable, now the Liturgy changes completely. It is no longer the priest and the people praying to God; God prepares us for the Epiclesis: the coming down of the Holy Spirit upon the sacrifice just as it did at Pentecost. After washing the hands and asking that our sacrifice be acceptable, we enter into the Holy of Holies with the simple exchange:

Priest: The LORD be with You People: And with your SPIRIT

Priest: Lift up your hearts People: We lift them up TO THE LORD

Priest: Let us give thanks (eucharist) to the LORD OUR GOD

People: It is right and just. This simple exchange comes from St. Hippolytus. (c. AD 215) 18 centuries later we say the same prayer. This prayer is more than just casual formalities. We are to enter into the Holy of Holies. This is not the sanctuary of the Church we are in, but we are to enter into the heavenly sanctuary, where Christ the Passover Lamb constantly offers the New Passover for us. T h i s N e w Pa s s o v e r ( t h e Crucifixion, Death, Resurrection, Ascension, and Pentecost which is really one act though for us in time is spread out over 50 days) is a living sacrifice that first frees us from our sins, the crucifixion of Christ, but then sanctifies us through giving us the Holy Spirit.

Stewardship: The Pastor’s Part Leadership is not a title nor is it a privilege. It is servanthood. It demands laying down your life for the other. Pastors are to be priests who offer prayer and sacrifice for the people and their sins. Pastors are to be a prophet explaining and outlining how to apply God’s Word to our lives. Pastors are king, that is he is the leader who prepares, plans, and then executes the vision for the parish. To do this, the pastor and the parish are to spend time reading, studying, and learning about successful practices to engage the faithful to create a stewardship culture. This article is one such study guide. The finance council is critical as they advise and direct the pastor, but more importantly, they help the pastor make difficult decisions and implement them to create a faithful stewardship culture. The parish council is made up of the various ministries and outreach programs of the parish. They let the pastor and the finance council voice their needs, plans and dreams. The Pastor’s part of stewardship expects buy-in from the parishioners. This buy-in is the realization that we are responsible to God for our time, treasure, and talent. We all are accountable and we will not fail less we fail in faith. We have seen many examples of irresponsibility lately. That is why we need to be all the more accountable to our Catholic Faith, ensuring that each parishioner knows what true stewardship is.

Pentecost: Re-Creation Pentecost is the feast 50 days from Passover. It is the harvest festival, when the ancients would gather the wheat. It is also the celebration when the Israelites celebrated their freedom from their slavery in Egypt. On this day, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. It is also the day when, 50 days after Passover, Jesus sends the Promised Paraclete Who restores creation and fulfills the prophecy of Ezekiel (36:26):

I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.

I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

I will put my spirit within you so that you walk in my statutes, observe my

ordinances, and keep them. You will live in the land I gave to your

ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.

I will deliver you from all your impurities. I will summon the grain and make it plentiful;

I will not send famine against you. Pentecost is the fulfillment of all the prophecies of the Old Testament, but as we read today what is most needed by all people is freedom. Freedom not to do what you want, but freedom to do what we were made for. We were made to love. We were made in the image and likeness of God and are complete in love only when we are one with God. Sin divorces us from God. It separates us from Him. It enslaves us in a duel to become our own god. God sends his Spirit to us through the Son Who empowers us to forgive and be forgiven. This is true freedom, when we no longer wrestle with sin, but live in God.

We will have pamphlets and folders explaining the RCIA Program for any candidate wanting to discern joining the Catholic Faith. Contact Fr. Tom directly. We have been asked to have a Youth/Childrens Mass at the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass once a month. Students will take a greater part in the Mass along with teaching moments during the Mass.

Building Update The stewardship council approved that we spend $10,000 in the Spring of 2019 — 2020 fiscal year from the building fund to replace the front doors of the Church, widening the doors to fit standard 6 foot doors. Along with the doors we will look into re-carpeting the steps up to the nave of the Church. Before winter, we will put carpet tile in the soup kitchen entrance and into the serving line area as we have had people slip and fall when drinks are split or snow is tracked in. We will put a concrete retaining wall in place of the green retaining wall as we complete the new exit from Murphy Hall.

Pentecost! The Promise Many Christians today have isolated the New Testament from the Old Testament. This heresy, called Marcionism, divided the Old Testament from the New Testament because the God of the New Testament was so much different than the Old. This heresy, which was taught around 144 AD, is alive and well today. Many Christian scholars read the New Testament without understanding the Old and in so doing, come up with teachings that are either absurd on one side or hollow on the other side. Pentecost and Confirmation are such teachings. Many Christians are so Christocentric that they deny the Holy Spirit who comes to do three things: First - and most important - Jesus sends his Spirit to renew the Covenant. Christianity is a covenantal religion in which God physically and spiritually, through His Son, exchanges His love for us. In so doing, He makes us new, giving us a new heart — a new life. See, days are coming—oracle of the LORD—when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors the day I took them by the hand to

lead them out of the land of Egypt.

They broke my covenant, though

I was their master. But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel

after those days.

I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts;

I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

They will no longer teach their

friends and relatives, “Know the LORD!” Everyone, from least to

greatest, shall know me for I will forgive their iniquity and no longer remember their

sin.

The second teaching that many Christians deny is the power to forgive sins. Jesus tells his Apostles explicitly:

And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are

forgiven them, whose sins you retain

are retained. (John 20:19) This gift to forgive sins is given to the apostles and their successors. This many want to deny, and claim it was solely for the apostles and not for their successors. Many today do not want to make a confession, that is expose their sinfulness to another. Yet this is exactly what heals us. Every self-help group today demands that individuals who are struggling with something within need to expose it. They need to talk about it. They need to reveal it to be healed of it. So too with the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We in the sanctity and concealment of this Covenant (for that is what the word Sacrament is, translated from the Greek), we expose our woundedness and brokenness asking for healing. This power to forgive sins comes from the Holy Spirit and is given to those ordained to heal sin, but more importantly to act as a conduit of the Spirit to renew the heart of the sinner. Finally, the Spirit teaches us all truth (Jn 16:13):

When he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all

truth. And (Jn 14:15):

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be

with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept,

because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it

remains with you, and will be in you.

We pray that the Holy Spirit fills the hearts of Christians to live in the Covenant, restored by the priestly power to forgive sins, and teach you to be faithful, living in the Truth!

Parish Discipleship: Encounter Christ Bishop Chad has given the pastors and the diocese a three-fold outline to evangelize our parishes, faithful, and diocese. 1. Encounter Christ. 2. Be Transformed by this Encounter of Christ (New Heart). 3. Become Missionary Disciples, telling others how you have

encountered Christ and how your life is transformed for the better.

Has encountering Christ become a Lost Value at ICC?

Looking at society and the emphasis on secularism and relativism by the media we hardly hear about those who encounter Christ and are transformed into living disciples. Did you hear about the martyrs who gave their lives to Jesus today? Did you hear about our priest who was held at gun point by terrorists and lived? Did you hear about the person who died shortly after receiving Last Rites? So many today are encountering Christ and being transformed.
