BRIEF WRITEUP A two day workshop was organized by PNGRB in collaboration with BPCL at its Learning Center at Sewri in Mumbai on 8 th and 9 th Nov 2019, to delve deep into understanding the genesis of in-transit accidents, its mitigation measures & way forward. To make the program meaningful and effective, external eminent cross-functional faculty (internal & external) were invited to share their thoughts on the subject matter and suggest a way forward. The program was attended by 64 participants from entire Oil & Gas Industry with cross-pollination from Public Sector (BPC, HPC, IOC & GAIL) and Private Sector Companies (Reliance, HMEL, Nayara & BP). The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. S. Rath, Member (I & T), PNGRB along with other distinguished dignitaries from the Oil & Gas Industry. Mr. P.S Ravi (ED Retail, BPCL) in his welcome address gave a brief introduction of the dignitaries and eminent speakers who had come for the workshop and emphasized on the need to have such a workshop. In his opening remarks, Mr. Arun Singh (Director Mktg. BPCL) expressed serious concerns about the growing number of in-transit accidents and urged the group to find practical and implementable solutions for mitigation. Mr. S. Rath in his key note address urged the Industry, to be extremely sensitive towards in-transit accidents and take steps in the right earnest for ensuring NIL in-transit accidents. During the two day program eminent external speakers i.e. Mr. Hirak Dutta (Ex-ED, OISD), Mr. G.S. Saini (Principal Fire Training College, Nagpur), Mr. Devendra Mahajan (Joint Director Process & Engineering, OISD) and shared their knowledge and wisdom with the participants in interactive sessions on the subject matter. Mr. Soumitra Chatterjee (Dhruvsatya Center for Personal Transformation) also talked about transforming TL Crew through effective Training & Counselling and Mr. Birendra Bisht (M/s Safehur) shared how his startup is leveraging technology by using IoT / Artificial Intelligence for driving behaviour analytics to safeguard against road accidents. From the Oil Industry, Mr. B.S Giridhar (ED- HS&E Marketing, IOCL), Mr. M.K Chandna (GM HSE Marketing, HPCL), Mr. Sanjeev Raina (CGM Ops, BPCL) and Mr. Rajesh Shegokar (DGM HSSE Retail, BPCL) also shared their experience / views on varied topics associated with the issue of TL In-Transit Accidents. The program ended with Panel Discussions, on how the social status of the crew and their abject health condition plays a vital role in accidents with focus on improving both these aspects. crew, their social status and societies outlook impacted their behaviour. The program concluded on an extremely positive note and every one was committed and eager towards making a difference after going back. Each of the participants agreed to work on at least two specific actionable points to improve the physical and mental state of the TL Crew at their respective locations.
