This school aims to teach skills to young adults through the arts. This means that
students will learn to use various media and equipment in a free artistic manner
as opposed to the constraints of learning strictly a trade. The school is built upon
the idea of upcycling material. This is demonstrated in the detail model shown on
the left.

The Walley SchoolBristol, Rhode Island
graduate architectural design studio(arch 515.02)
This design for an adaptative reuse of The Walley School in Bristol, Rhode Island is
the result of research and collaboration between the people of Bristol, DesignLab
Architects, and myself. Our task was to assess the building alongide the needs of
the people and design accordingly. This design proposes the insertion of a double
sided performance hall into the back side of The Walley School. The goal is to
provide a venue for civic events as well as school performances. the school sits
on the Bristol Town Common and would allow for an audience to gather outside
when the weather allows for it.

This frame was con-ceived as an early ex-ercise in capturing the essence of Bristol in an assemblage. It represents the window of exchange through which acquaintance is made most typically in this small town.

The Baths ofJanubioLanzarote Spain
comprehensive architectural design studio(arch 513.02)
The Baths of Janubio sit above the majestic Salt Flats of Janubio, Spain in the
Canary Islands. The monumental scale of the baths helps to establish a strong site
presence in an overwhelmingly beautiful location. Baths are arranged sequentially
along the length of the building, each with its own level terracing down toward the
ocean in the same manner as the salt flats. The outdoor bath is the last bath of
the sequence and offers the most rewarding view of the surrounding landscape.
Guest lodging is located along the southern facade and is inset to allow for an
escape from the hot sun overhead.

Lieven de Keylaan HousingHilversum, Netherlands
advanced architectural design studio(arch 413.02)This project looks at neighborhood intensification as an alternative to sprawl. The
design proposes high density housing alongside a school and healthcare center
in a residential part of Hilversum. This is done to replace a decaying school build-
ing, to avoid the destruction of undeveloped land, and to provide for the needs of
a community on the local level. Special considerations include many variations of
unit types, strict separation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and maintaining the
scale of the neighborhood.

A Case Study
ManantialesRestaurantarchitecture technology II(arch 432.01)
The focus of the case study was to anazlyze the performance of thin concrete
shell structures. The Manantiales Restaurant in Xochimilco, Mexico by Felix Can-
dela displays the tremendous strength that can be achieved through parabolic
shell structures. This shell has the ability to span over a hundred feet with a thick-
ness of only two inches. The rebar within actually makes the shell weaker.

Piazza GhibertiFlorence, Italy
advanced architectural design studio(arch 413.01)Redesigning an existing piazza in historic Florence, Italy presents a unique chal-
lenge. The primary issue at hand is how to design a built open space. This lead
to a design built upon flexibility. This design proposes a market with stalls on rails
that are operated by the merchant. Benches and planters are also installed upon
rails allowing for convenient rearrangement.

Aquatic Centerarchitecture technology (arch 431.01)
structural design
The Aquatic Center was designed to demonstrate the potential of the arch in mod-
ern materials. The enclosure is characterized by trussed arches spanning roughly
225 feet. The structure alludes to the fluidity of the tremendously athletes and the
water in which they swim. One may also see the influence of Santiago Calatrava.

Steel CafeProvidence, Rhode Island
core 5 architectural design studio(arch 313.01)The Steel Cafe was an exercsie in designing with steel components. This meant
designing the many levels of structure as well as their connections. This particular
design was inspired by the work with frames by Jean Prouve and seeks to define
a major space and a service space at once.

Wayland Square FireHouseProvidence, Rhode Island
core 5 architectural design studio(arch 313.01)Wayland Square is located in the historic neighborhood of East Providence, Rhode
Island. This Fire House will establish its presence at the confluence of two streets.
While this design addresses the demands of a functioning fire house, the primary
focus was on the design of the construction details. In this case, the design of a
footing, wall section, and parapet was our primary concern.

The village was designed as a component of a studio geared toward restoring the
Woonasquatucket River Greenway Corridor. Sustainable design methods were re-
search in the effort to provide a low impact construction. This inspired the use of
recycled shipping containers as well as a very minimal footprint. The units were
designed and arranged for variety and courtyard access.
