Why did people want to leave?

“This is a simple question [with] thousands of answers. Of course, Brexit means that something is wrong in Europe. But Brexit means also that something was wrong in Britain.”- Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission.

Immigration• Leave's main argument was that the UK could not

control the number of people coming into the country while remaining in the EU.

• People were concerned about national and cultural identity- particularly lower income voters.

• The result suggested that concerns about levels of migration into the UK over the past 10 years, their impact on society ran even deeper than people had suspected.

Reasons for remain• EU is one of strongest economic areas in the

world. It has 7.3% of the world's population, but accounts for 23% of nominal global GDP.

• Free trade helps reduce costs and prices for consumers. Increased trade to the EU creates jobs and higher income. Over 52% of UK exports are to the EU.
