Abroad! Wereceivedthise-mailfromMarkBenedixwhoworksandrecordscurrentlyinEngland.Itisastorythatissoadventurousit’shardtobelieve.WecontactedMarktoverifyit-andheassuredus,thisiswhathappened:

It’stheonlywayIcanexplaintheordealinChina,andthatisjustrightoutofascenefromamovie.Tofore-warnyounow,Iamafewbottlesofwineintowritingthisbecausethatiswhatittakestogetthisdown. MyfriendWilldecidedtotakearelaxingjourneytoanewlyrefurbishedresortinaplacecalledGulmarg,nearLhasaChina...Tibet...depend-ingonwhatmapyou’relookingat.Itwasadecentflight and we made all of our connectionsontimeetcetc.When we finally landed in Lhasa.Therewasacarwait-ingforusandWilldecidedtodriveseveralhourstotheresortonthisroadthatcurvedandwindeduntilwewerestoppedonthissnowydesolateroadinthemiddleofnowhere.Thisiswherethefunbegan....readon. Therewerefourguysthatlookedliketheywerestrandedonthesideoftheroadandpracticallythrewthemselvesinfrontofourcar.Westoppedattheirinsistenceandthatwasthebeginningoftheendofthisadventure.TheyorderedusoutofthecarinsomelanguageIdidn’tunderstand,butWillknewalittle.WhateverWillsaidupsetthemsotheydecidedtonotonlywaveknivesinourface,buttakethecar,money,passports,camera,andwhat-everelsewasofvalue.ThesecondWillsaidsomething

elseoneguystuckhiminthesidewiththeknife!Icouldn’tbelievethiswashappeningandoneofthemcameatmeandIjumpedbackandtheylaughedlikeitwasajoke. Sohereweare50some-thingmilesfromthenearesttown...orshouldIsayvillage.Wewalkedforwhatseemedlikeaday,becausewesawthesunsetandrisebeforeweevensawtheliving.carswouldpass,butnoneofthem stopped...only us! (the idiotsweare)Wemadeittothislittlevillage,thisplacewasrightoutofthehistorybooks.Idon’tevenremem-berthename,nordidIknowitwhenitwaspronouncedtome.Weaskedforadoctorinwhatlookedlikearecreationhall.Therewerealotoftoothlesspeoplelookingatus funny. Will asked them (in theirlanguage)iftherewasadoctor,andsomeguypoint-ed,saidsomethingandwewereonourwayagain.Mindyouitmusthavebeenabout20somethingdegreesoutthere,andIwashappytobeinthewarmth.ThisFloridaboywasfreezing!Wewalkedaboutamileandknockedonthisguyshouse/hutthingyandheputsomestuffonWill’scutandbandagedhimup.Thenweaskedforaphone,andofcoursetheonly2phonesintownweren’tworking.WestartedwalkingtoaplacecalledGonggar,whichthankgodhadthebasicammenitiesandwasn’ttoofaraway.IcalledLondonandgottheballrollingtogetourassesthehelloutoftherebecauseWillwasoutofit. andsoonLeonbecameafavoritewiththelocals.Onenightinanupperscalebluesclub,Leongothisluckybreak.Awellknownbluesartistbythenameof“JimmyReed”wasscheduledtoperform.LeonknewJimmyReed’smusicreallywell,fromchildhoodlisteningtojukeboxmusicfromthenearbynightclub.Leonhadalwayswanted to see Jimmy Reed and finally he’d gotten the chance to do just that. But Mr.Reedhadobviouslygottendrunk,andLeonwasaskedtotakehisplace.“Theysnuckhimoutback,andcameandgotme”Leonrecalls.Thecrowdcouldn’ttellthedifferenceandtheshowwasahit.Andthushewasborn“LILJIMMYREED”.

Thesecondyoungestofninechil-dren,Maxi’sparentshadmovedtoLon-don,EnglandfromJamaica.Hisfatherwasasteelworkerinafactory,whilehismotherdevotedherlifetoChristianity;shewasamissionaryataPentecostalChurchandleadsingerforthechurchchoir,andasayoungsterMaxigrewuplisteningtogospel,reggae,R&B,aswellaspopmusic. Whileworkingasacarpenterbuildingspeakerboxesforalocalreg-gaesound-system,MaxiPriestbegansingingoverthemicatlivedancehallsessionswithartistssuchasSmileyCulture.In1984MaximadeabitofhistoryafterheandPaul“BarryBoom”RobinsonproducedPhilipLevi’s“MiGod Mi King, “ the first UK reggae tune toreachNumberOneinJamaica. His1988albumMaxi,wasre-cordedinJamaicawithlegendarymusiciansSlyDunbar,RobbieShake-speare,andWillieLondo,andwasreleasedinAmericabyVirginRecords.With“SomeGuysHaveAlltheLuck”,acoverofCatSteven’sclassic“WildWorld” that gave Maxi his first U.S.

WhenIspoketoherpriortotheFebruaryreleaseofherlatestsingle,“ReturntoLove,”Glasssaidsheplannedtomakeasolidgoatsharinghermusicandtalentwithasmanypeopleaspossible,butthat‘makingit’inindustrytermswasn’tsomethingsheobsessedabout.“Thefameandfortunehasneverbeenwhatdrivesme,”shesaid.“MygoalissimplytomakemusicthatI’mproudofandthatpeoplewillenjoy,andtobeabletogetoutandperform.” In 2003, Glass flirted with industry success when her single“Dreamin”wasreceivedwithrelativeacclaimforanindependentartist.ThesinglewaslaudedbyrespectedDJsanddebutedonthetopofavarietyofchartsincludingDJTimesMagazine“Top10MostAddedDance/CrossoverTracks” chart (#3), RecordPoolCharts.com’s National Top 40 chart (#20), and ClubFMRadio.com’s Top 30 chart (#5). But,accordingtoGlass,thesingle’ssuccesswashamperedby business-related turmoil, particularly difficulties with her management. I can fly out on the weekends to record. ofthecountryandhoweachsubculturehasitsownwayofbutcheringtheEnglishlanguage.IguessmyfascinationwithdialectsbeganearlyinlifewhilstviewingnowclassicBugsBunnycartoons.BugshadaclassicBrooklyn,NYaccent.Bytheway,that’spronounced“NooYawk”.Yoogottaproblemwitdat?Maybeweshouldstartspellingthingsphoneticallyinourownaccentasin:“Say,doc,disaintPismoBeech.InewIshoodahungaleftatAlbakoikee.”Oh…maybenot,butspellinginBrooklyneseissomuchfun!Forexample“word”inBrooklynis“woid”,“itrhymeswith“void”.OK,letstakeatypicalsentenceandtranslateittoBrooklynese.Howabout:“First,I’mgoingtothestoretopurchasesomemorethingsfordinner.”Thatwouldbe:“Foist,I’mgointodahstawtopoichasesummawtingsfawdinnah.” I find that most people from the mid-west have a very difficult time pronouncing Brooklynese. Withaqualityrecordedrepresenta-tionofhisband’smusic,Biellingwantstomakeapushtowardbeingaprofes-sionalband.“I’dliketoseeustouringandmakingaliving,”hesaid.Fameisnot,however,amotivatingfactor.“Idon’twanttobesuperfamous,Ilikemyprivacy,”hesaid. Theband’stwopreviousreleaseshavereachedpeopleonapersonallevel,tacklinganumberofrealworldissuesinaprofoundway.Withmorethan400,000unitssoldto-date,worldwide,clearlymusicfansarelistening. OTEP’ssoon-to-be-released,The_Ascension,upstheanteevenfurther.Probablytheband’smostprofounddisktodate,The_Ascensionnotonlytakesonpolitics,religiousfa-naticism,andracismandsexism,it’spureheavy-metalpoetry.Clearly benefiting from the help of producer Dave Fortman (Evanescence, Mydvayne), the album is laden with a dynamic arrayofcrushingpowerandelegantmelody. Theband’smostimportant,invigoratingtrackisthecom-pellingprotestanthem,“Confrontation.”Thelyricsconveynot only the song’s import but also its fierce sonic nature. “Defythetyrants,don’tbesilent!….standup,speakout/strikeback.” OriginallysetforreleaseonMarch20th,OTEPwasrecentlyleveledbyrumorsthatitslabel,CapitalRecordswasclosingitsdoors.Whilethingshaven’tcleared-upjustyet,whatisknownisthatthenewalbum’sreleasedatehasbeenpushedback.InApril,thebandhintedthatthealbummightbecomingoutverysoon. Brevard Liverecentlyspoketotheband’svocalist,OtepShamaya, easily one of the fiercest female metal-crooners signedtoamainstreamrecordlabel.BLaskedShamayaaboutthealbum’sdelayedrelease,theband’sstrugglewithconven-tion,andwhatinspiredhertowrite“Confrontation.” Talkaboutthenewsthesituationyou’reinwithyourlabel.OTEP:Therecordindustryisnotdoingsowellandpeopleonbothsidesblameeachother.Somesaymusicshouldbefreeandstealingmusicdoesn’taffecttheartistanditdoesn’taffecttherecordlabel;andthentherecordlabelsaywhatthey’vebeendoingishowthey’vealwaysbeendoingitanditrunsfine. So its this war. But yet in the end it doesn’t really matter who’srightandwho’swrong,it’sthebandsthataresufferingforit. Herewearekindofstuckinthisperpetualplaceofpause,atthemoment,afterworkingforalmosttwo-yearsonanalbumandhavingitrightinfrontofyou,thatyou’reabouttobeabletoseeitandshareitwithpeopleandyourfans.Forus,writingarecordisamazingandit’ssuchabeautifulprocessofinner-manifestingtheseideasanddreamsandthingsthat

youhaveinsideyou,tomakeasong.Andthencraftingthatandpolishingitandreallymakingitsomethingthatyouthinkpeople will find value in, when they listen. Tobeabletosharethatwithpeople,youhavetogenuine-lyhavesomesortofbizarrerelationshipwithfansinthatyourespectthesepeoplethatrespectyou.Andthatyoucareabouttheminawaythatyouputsomuchintoyourmusicbecauseyoufeellike,insomeregard,theydeservethebestyouhave;becausetheygiveyouthebesttheyhave.Andthenwegetstucklikethiswhereit’snow. I’vereadatleastsixdifferentpressreleasesthatdidn’toriginateformourrecordlabelsayingweweredropped,say-ingwewerebeingmovedovertoVirgin,sayingthatweweredroppedagain,thatweweren’tdropped.Thenwecallpeoplewhoallegedlyknowthesetypeofthings-appropriatesuitsand finger-pointers and so forth - and in the end they say that’s notthecause,wedon’tknowwherethisiscomingfrom.Sonow we’re just kind of stuck here waiting to find out when our record’sgoingtobereleased. Itstruckmeasironicthatyoursongswagewaronconventionandcorporatization,andhereyouarebecomingavictimofthis,asyouputitonyourwebsite,“commerceversusartist”situation.OTEP:Itisironic.Theonethingthatweallhavetounder-standisthatintheenditisanindustry.Ifwealljustwantedtomakefreeart,thenwewouldn’thavesignedarecorddealandputeverythingthatwehadintotryingtobuildacareer,sowecouldlivelifeasanartist.Somewherealongtheline,some-thinggotblurredtowherepeoplestartedtothinkthatbeingabletoliveasanartistisabadidea,ormakingmoneyasanartistisabadidea.WhereasIdon’tthinkanyoneeverwenttoPicassoandsaid,youshouldn’tsellyourpaintings,youshouldgivethemallaway. Wearestuckinthisbizarreplace,butIthinkit’smoreinwhatyousaidinthebeginning,ofbeingstuckinconvention.Becausewearesuchanunconventionalbandinthewaythat

weapproachourfansandthewayweapproachoursongwrit-ingandourmessages.It’salwaysthisparadigmshiftwhenitcomestous,it’salmostapartofournaturetodisregardgenresorfadsoranythingofthatnature.Soherewearekindofstuckinthisworldwhereitdoesn’tmakeanysensetousatallwhythingsshouldworkthisway.We’retryingveryhardtomaintainoursanityandourpeace-of-mind,whilewewatchallthesedecisionsbeingmadearoundusthatinevitablyaffectourlives,affectthelivesofourcareerandourabilitytopursuitthosegoalsanddreamsthatwehave. Whatinspiredyoutowrite,Confrontation,andwhatisyourideaof“strikingback”?OTEP: I think, first of all, it’s always kind of been in my matrixasapersonwhoneededtocommunicatesomething,toalways use art to spread a message. Even on the first record. Eventhoughitwasn’tnecessarilysopolitical,eventhoughthere was personal politics involved -- (we) really waged war onalotdomesticissues.Itwasn’tuntilthesecondrecordwherethecountryhadfallenunderthisspelloftheBush-tacticstoerodeourcivillibertiesandso-forth,underthisblossomingbull-shitofprotectingourfreedom;andifyouspokeoutagainsthimyouwereatrouble-maker,youweren’texercisingyourrightsthatwereallegedlybeingprotected,youwerejustcausingtrouble.On“War-head”Iremembertheproducer,GregWells,hewasinthecontrolroomwhileIwasrecordingit,heactuallyfeltafraidbecauseofhowmuch

emotionIhad.ImeanIreallyfelteverythingthatiswritteninthatsong. Movingtowherewearenowasacountry,Ifeltliketherewere enough fingers being pointed at the Bush administra-tion.Iwrotethispoemoncethatsaid,“ifthepeoplearesheep,don’tblametheshepherd.”Ifeltlikewith“Confrontation”itwastimetoremindeveryonewhatauniquepositionwehaveinthisworld,atthistime.Intheory,itdoesn’tmatterwhatre-ligion,race,gender,orsocioeconomicstatus,orsexuality,youhavetherighttospeakout,youhavearighttobeinvolvedinthepoliticalschemeofthiscountry.Soitwasimportantformetowriteasongthatfeltempoweringtomyself,toem-powerotherpeopletousetheirvoice,thatwehaveit.Anditdoesn’tnecessarilyhavetobeplacedinapoliticalarena.Itcouldbeanywhere.Itcouldbejustthefactthatyouknowthatyouhavetobesilent,thatyoucanspeakout. Strikingback,tome,meansbeingeducatedandbeinginformedaboutwhateveryoufeelprovokedorinspiredormo-tivatedorinoppositionoforin-favorof.Thatwearemakingenlightened,informedchoices.Thatweknowwhat’sgoingon.Becausethat’showthedark-ageshappened,informationwasgatheredandheld-backbyaverysmallelitesystemthatmanufacturedfearunderreligionorgodorgovernment.Soherewearenow,withthetrueability.It’ssuchapowerfulweapon,butit’ssofragileanddelicatethatitcouldjustblowawayifwedon’tutilizeit.

BorninBurgundyFrance,Reverdiaulivedthereuntilthe age of 18 when he moved to the south of France (the French Riviera) to attend flight school. Reverdiau began takingpicturestokeephisfamilyuptodateabouthisnewsurroundings.Althoughhedidn’trealizeitatthetime,thatwasthestartofhiscareerinphotography. Inthosedays,Reverdiauusedapoint-and-shootcamerabecausehemerelyintendedtodocumenthistravelsforhisfamily.Becausepeoplegavehimsuchpositivefeedbackabouthisphotography,hebeganbuyingmoresophisticatedequipmentandpracticingmoreadvancedtechniques. ThecollegeReverdiauattendedinFrancewasapartnerwithavarietyofschoolsthroughouttheUnitedStates.StudentsstudiedfortwoyearsinFranceandthencompleted the final two years of their degrees in the United States.FITinMelbourneisthepartnerfortheaviationprogramReverdiauattended.Therefore,ReverdiaumovedtoMelbourne to finish his degree. His professional photography career officially started at theencouragementoffriends--Alyssia,Sherry,Ann,Terry,andWillene.Theyspurredhimtoshowhispicturestomorethanjusthisfamily.So,hestartedtotakeitallseriously.Reverdiau’photographyskillsareself-taught.Hereadbookstolearnthetechnicalpointsandhesoughtcritiquesofhisphotographsatwebsiteswherephotographershangout.Aswithanyartform,however,hoursandhoursofpracticeareneededtodevelopanindividualstyle–thatentailsshootingthousandsofpicturesandpracticinggettingthemjustrightinthe digital or film darkroom. Reverdiau, with great results, is intheprocessofputtinginthattime. Reverdiauhastwocareers.HeisalicensedpilotandhebeganworkingforFITafterhegraduatedwithhisbachelor’sdegreeinAeronauticalScience.Currently,heworkswiththepilots at the flight school. He is in charge of flight records andFAAcompliance.Atthesametime,heisworkingonhismaster’sdegreeinAviation-HumanFactors.Thatdegree

Research in that field helpsdeterminewheretoputcockpitdialsandinstrumentssotheycanbereadandmanipulatedeasilyandnaturally.Theemphasisistoreduceriskofaccidents. Reverdiauintendstocontinuehiscareerinaviationandtopursuephotographyaswell.Hislifeisafullone.Heattendsschoolparttime,worksfulltime,andheworksonhisphotographyandthebusinessendofhisphotographycareerinwhatevertimeisleft.Reverdiau,withinthepastyear,beganshowing his photographs in fine art venues. In September, he wasinvitedtojointheArtandAntiqueGalleryinEauGallie.Hisworkisshowntherecontinuously.InNovember2006,heenteredhisphotographyintheArtWorksFestivalinEauGallie,andhewonanhonorablementionatthatshow. BecauseReverdiaulovestotravel,headmitsthatadreamjobwouldbetotraveltheworldasaNationalGeographicphotographer,recordingthebeautyofpartsoftheworldpeoplewouldnotbeabletoseeontheirown. HisfavoritephotographersareRobertDoisneau,famousforhisWorldWarIIeraphotographsofpeople,andAnselAdams,famousforhishighcontrastblackandwhitelandscapes.AsReverdiaustudiesthesemastersandcontinues to perfect the fine art side of photography, he is also expandingintothecommercialsideofit.Heisbeginningtoconcentrateonweddingandengagementphotographsandfamilyportraits.Heisbuildinghisbusinessthroughhiswebsiteandthroughshowinghisworkinvariousvenues. Currently,hisphotographyisdisplayedthroughtheBrevardCulturalAllianceatHolmesRegionalCenterCardiacUnitandatBuildingCoftheGovernmentCenterinViera,Florida.Inaddition,Reverdiauwillbethefeaturedartistin June at the Art and Antique Studio (1418 Highland Ave.; Melbourne,Florida).AnopeningreceptionwillbeheldonJune1,2007,from5:30pm–8:00pm.Thepubliciswelcometoattendthisopening. Ihavealwayslovedandrespectedtwoguitarplayersfromrighthere

inBrevardwhosetalenthasspreadmuch,muchfarther.Theyhavealwaysandwillalwaysbemyfavoriteguitar-ists. One obviously was (and remains) DaveFiester,andtheotherissomeoneIhavewantedtowriteaboutformonths,because he definitely deserves to be rec-ognizedwhenyoutalkaboutthemusicsceneofBrevard.ButIamjustnowfinding the appropriate time. That would beAustinPettit.Ifyouhaveseen“TheAustinPettitBandfeaturingDebbyBoyer”,Idon’tneedtosaymore.Ifyouhavenothadtheprivilege,they’regoingstrongandbetterthaneverplay-ingforuslocally,andyoushoulddoyourselfafavorandtakeadvantageofachancetohearandappreciatethem.

IhavebeenwatchingAustinasamusiciansincehewasadrummerratherthanaleadguitarist.TherehavebeenmanytimesIhavementionedhimplayingthedrumsandsomanypeople

hadnoideaheeverhad.Sowe’regoingback quite a few years (the early begin-ningofthe70’s).ButAustinwouldpickuptheguitar,andlikeDave,itwasmeanttobe,andhehasthatspecialgift.Hemakesitlookasthoughhejustholds the guitar, moves his fingers, and itknowsjustwhathewantsittodo,anditreactstohimperfectlyandseeminglywithverylittleeffort.AndthetimesIwasabletoseeAustinandDaveplaytogetherthroughtheyearsisoneofthosethingsthatyouwouldn’ttradeforanything.AndAustinnotonlyhasneverhesitatedtostepbackandletanotherguitaristtaketheleadalongwiththespotlight,butdoessogladlyandenjoystheothermusiciansalongwiththerestofthosewatchingandlistening.Thissaysatremendousamountaboutthepersonheis.

Austinmovedhereinthemiddle60’s.Again,atthattimehewasplay-ingdrumsandhisfriendJimGilsonwasworkingwithAustin.Austintold

mewhenthe“PinkWedge”existed,hisfriendJimtoldhimthathewantedthemtogotheretogetherbecausehewasgoingtoshowAustinthebestlocaldrummerinBrevard.ForthoseofyouwhorememberthePinkWedge,itwastheplacenotonlytoplayasamusician,buttogohearthebestmusicaswell.Thiswasaroundtheyearof1968,andthedrummerhisfriendwantedhimtoseesobadlywasBillHoffman.Ilovethatstoryandtheirony,alltheyearsBillandAustinwouldplayinbandstogetherinthefuture,becomingclosefriends,andstillfriendsandfellowmusiciansrightuptothisveryday.

KeepinmindthatatthistimeAus-tinwasstillinhighschool.Andlikesomanyoftheotherkidshisage,hewouldhangoutatthe“IndianHarbourBeachCommunityCenter”,where“Mrs.G”tookDaveFiesterunderherwings,alongwithAustinandsomanyofthekidsofthecommunity.Shewatchedoverthemaswellaslovingmusicandencouragingandhelpingthekidsinanywayshecould,frombookingthebands,lettingthemusethecommunitycentertopractice,evenbuyingequip-mentwhenitwasneeded.AustinalongwithotherslikeCharliePlankey,BuckBarefoot (who was then a bass player), PaulMilesandsomanyotherswouldgotheretoplayandpractice,usuallyendinginjamsmorethananythingelse.Austin would find himself jamming with Daveattimes.

Davewouldbecometheguitarisforagrouptheycalled“Truth”,whichlaterbecametheinfamous“RainDriver”.

andCharliePlankeyonguitar,Lennyplayingkeyboardsaswell.JeffYabswas on vocals and flute, Chuck Beasley onbass,andthebandhad2drummers,BillBallandAustin.

Bythistimetheyhadreachedcol-legeageandAustinwouldbecomebestfriendswithLennyandtheywouldplaytogetherintheband“Enalpria”aswell,whichis“airplane”spelledbackward.IwastoldthatLenny’sideaforthisnamestemmedfromhisloveofairplanes.HismotherElmaMaddockbookedthebandat places such as the “O” Club (Officer’s Club)atPatrickAirForceBase,whichatthattimewasoneofthebetterplacestoplay.Andthebandwouldbecomeratherpopular,evenreceivingwriteupsinthelocalnewspapers.Lenny’sparentshadaddedasoundproofroomtotheirhomewherethebandwouldholdpractices.Thebandplayed“Tiger’sDen” (one of my favorite places in the 60’swhilegoingtoCocoaBeachHigh),theSatelliteBeachCivicCenter,andevenBrevardCommunityCollegeatsucheventsastheirendoftermdances.Forthoseofyouwhowerenotintheareaatthistime,youhavetorealizethatfromCocoaBeachtoMelbourneBeachitwassuchasmallcommunity,and

nothinglikeitistoday.TherewasnoLou’sBlue’sandMurdock’s,etc.,sotheplacesthatAustinandLennyplayedto-getherweretheplaceswhereeverybandwouldlovethechancetolandagig.MyhusbandJohnLanestillplayedthe“O”ClubalongwithDaveFiesterandBillHoffman after we were first married whichwouldbeyearsafterAustinandLennyhadplayedtherein“Enalpria”.

Therewouldbemanyversionsofthisparticularband,butAustinwouldmoveontoothers,bringingusto“Sand-paperCastle”.ButitwouldnotbethelasttimehewouldplaywithLennyandsomeoftheothermembersof“Enal-pria”and“KineticStorm”.

AsIsaidbefore,Austinfoundhimselfinabandcalled“SandpaperCastle”,atthistime,stillplayingdrums.AlStevenswasonguitar,KendallBurneponkeyboards,andChuckBeas-leyonbass.ThiswasabandbookedbyMrs. Burnep (Kendall’s mom), and the memberswouldsoonchangetoAustin,JulieBurnep,GaryLane,MikeMackeyandCharliePlankeywhoreplacedJohnMillsonguitar.GaryLanewouldre-placeAustinondrumsandAustinwouldfind himself doing his first gig on guitar

whilethebandplayedinJacksonville,NC.Ifthatsoundsalittlefamiliar,it’sbecauseitisthesamebandthatlaterconsistedofFrankLutzonvocalsandguitar,GaryLaneondrums,JohnLaneonbass,andKendallonkeyboards.Andthatwouldnotbethelastperson-nelchangeforthisbandeither.Soonthebandwouldchangemembersonceagain(still in Jacksonville, NC), bringing in BillHoffmanondrumstoreplaceGary,andDaveFiesterwouldjointheband.FrankLutzwouldleaveandGloriaGuy-dosMcDonaldwouldbecomeamemberon vocals and flute, and the name would bechangedtononeotherthan“SmilingSideways”.

AustinofcoursehadreturnedtoMelbournetoplayinabandcalled“Assiah”.ThiswouldbethelastbandthatAustinwouldplaydrumsinbeforepermanentlybecomingtheguitaristwearesoveryluckytohavetoday.Atthispointhehadplayedwiththebestandbecomeoneofthebest.ButhewouldmovetoOrlandogivingupmusicinpublicforaperiodoftime,doingnoth-ingmorethanwhathecalls“woodshed-ding”,whichis,playbutnotinaband.AustinwouldspendtimeawayfromthebandsotherthantheAllmanBrothersonhisstereowhilepracticingalongwiththem.Butthiswouldbynomeansbetheendofhisdaysofplayinginbands,playingwiththebest,andbeingthebest.
