The Aqualeak BREEAM Criteria Water Leak Detection Systems can be supplied either as two individual Type WG Cabinets or as one combined Type WG2 Cabinet. The Data Sheet on the single zone WG System is attached and describes the system operation. The WG System is comprised of three primary items: the Aqualeak WG Control Unit, the WaterGuard Module/s and the remote pulsed turbine Water Meter/s. Where Valve Shutdown is required, the system would also be supplied with Solenoid Valve/s. The Aqualeak WG2 BREEAM Criteria Water Leak Detection Control Unit holds the two complete systems in one cabinet, facilitating simpler installation and mains power requirements. One System, marked EXTERNAL WATER PIPEWORK, monitors the water pipework between the property boundary and the building. The other System, marked INTERNAL WATER PIPEWORK monitors the water pipework within the building. The WG2 Control Unit is provided with mounting holes via a key-hole fitting in the upper rear centre of the cabinet and two through-holes adjacent to the lower cover screw holes, accessible once the lower cover has been removed. The mains power is connected to the Mains Power Terminals on the WG PCB. Mains Terminals: Live : Earth : Neutral (Brown : Y/G : Blue). Battery (if fitted) should be connected to the Battery Terminals with correct polarity Live + , Neutral - . The PCB also has the terminals to connect to the Water Meter and the Valve (if fitted). This is comprised of two sets of Grey/ White/Brown wires. The left terminals are for the ‘Internal Pipework’ and the right terminals are for ‘External’ pipework. The water meter is connected to the terminals which have wires coloured WHITE and BROWN. These are not polarity conscious. The GREY terminal is used for connection to the valve if fitted. For schematic diagram of how to wire the valve/s, see separate instructions. Valves should ideally be fitted with a manual bypass and should be exercised regularly to prevent any buildup.

This is comprised of two sets of Grey/White/Brown wires.

Under BREEAM "One Credit is awarded where a Water Leak Detection System is specified or installed. The system must be capable of identifying major leaks both inside and outside the building, and should cover all mains supplies to the building … within the building and between the building and the site boundary." Therefore, BREEAM requires two specific monitoring systems; the first to monitor the external supply between the boundary and the stop-cock in the building; and the second fitted just after the stop-cock to monitor for leaks within the building. As the WG2 system uses a pulsed Water Meter, it qualifies for an additional credit under the Water Meter section of BREEAM. The Aqualeak BREEAM Criteria Water Leak Detection System is comprised of three primary items: the Aqualeak WG Control Unit, the WaterGuard Module and the remote pulsed turbine Water Meter. To monitor the external pipework, the module to monitor the external pipes is linked to a Turbine Water Meter at the site boundary. The module to monitor internal water supply is connected to a water meter just inside the stopcock. The Controller should be wall mounted adjacent to the stop-cock in the building and will require linking by a 1mm sq copper 3 core signal cable to the Turbine Water Meter in the external pit. Cabling runs should not exceed 100m. The Turbine Water Meter has BSP male threads at each end. The Controller requires mains power supply, and allowance must be made for cabling between the Controller and Turbine Meter. As the BREEAM Criteria does not require water shut-off, no solenoid valve is provided with the system as standard. However if a valve was fitted-and can be ordered from us-the system can then either turn off the water completely at a specified time or can be set to switch off if a pre set flow volume is exceeded. The Turbine Water Meter provides a pulse to the controller at 10L increments. The minimum setting that can stimulate an alarm, or turn the water off, is one pulse, i.e. after 10L of water has flowed, the system alarms/shuts the valve. This is adjustable upwards using the controller in increments of 1 pulse (10L). If the controller detects excessive flow, the Controller can alarm audibly and/or visually. The no-volt output relays activate simultaneously, and can send a signal to external remote repeat alarms, or a BMS System or to an Automatic Telephone Dialling system. This is the signal which would operate the solenoid shut off valve if required. Under normal operating conditions the WG Controller shows two green lights: ‘System is Live’ and ‘System is Clear’. When a water leak is detected, red LED on the Module flashes “Water Detected”. Simultaneously the two Alarm Change-over Relays activate providing onward alarm signalling. Pressing the ‘Water On’ button on the module facia will silence the alarm and will return the system to normal. If it is required that the ‘alarm state’ remains latched, pressing the Mute Alarm on the WG Controller instead will silence the alarm but will leave the alarm latched. When required, pressing the ‘Water On’ button on the WaterGuard facia will return the system to normal operation. The WG Controller is provided with four wall mounting holes adjacent to the corner cover screws, no drilling of the cabinet is required. The only connections required to the WG Controller are Mains Power, a link to the Water Meter, and any output alarms. Mains Power Connections are made to the WG Control Unit and should be made to the terminals on the PCB marked MAINS L (Live) E (Earth) and N (Neutral). 'Live' is fused with a 20mm 2amp ‘power’ fuse. The ‘24 V AC Control’ fuse is also 20mm and is rated at 1 amp. Connections to the Turbine Water Meter (and to any valve if fitted) would be to remote terminals marked F C V. For connection to the Water Meter, only terminals C and F are used. These terminals are not polarity conscious. If a valve is fitted, connections to the valve are to terminals C and V. Any Solenoid Valves required will be latching 5VDC, from Aqualeak. Remote output alarms should be connected to the WG Controller PCB Terminals marked ALARM. Both sets of Terminals are rated 240v AC 6amp, and provide (left to right) Normally Open, Common, or Normally Closed contacts. A RESET Relay rated 240V AC 2amp is provided which can be used by the BMS to ‘time/date stamp’ when the mute button had been pressed to indicate when the alarm was acted upon, or to mute an external remote sounder. Please do not adjust the pot on the PCB marked SENSITIVITY.
