“90% of Camrys Sold in the Last 10 Years

Are Still on the Road” You seen that commercial, right? Good for Camry owners, right?

Not to fear if you don’t own a Camry because all car models are lasting longer

now. Cars are just getting better. It has a lot to do with competition – the

consumer is getting the payoff for all the international competition in the car

business. Also, parts and parts materials are getting better. “Fifteen years ago,

piston rings would show perhaps 50 microns of wear over the useful life of a

vehicle,” said Jagadish Sorab, technical leader for engine design and Ford

Motor, referring to the engine part responsible for sealing combustion in the

cylinder. “Today, it is less than 10 microns. As a benchmark, a human hair is

200 microns thick.”

The key to getting the most of all these advancements is maintaining your

vehicle to the factory recommended maintenance schedule. Then you can sleep

easy because as the New York Times says, “200,000 is the new 100,000”! Article compiled from New York Times

Are You 1 in 13 Who Have Tree Climbing Feet? One in every 13 people may have an evolutionary anomaly hidden in their

shoes: chimp-like feet that make climbing trees easier. In contrast to the

"normal" feet most humans are hoofing around on, Boston University

researchers Jeremy DeSilva and Simone Gill say feet passed down from our

ape ancestors are more flexible -- the better to grasp tree branches with.

After filming 400 adults walking around barefoot, the Boston scientists

noticed that about eight percent of participants had a little extra bend in the

middle part of their feet, between the heel and ball. Rather than the stiff

ligaments that keep the foot joint rigid in most humans, the ape-like eight

percent have softer tissues that allow for more give.

Flexible feet are good news for any tree-dwellers out there, but might be less

fortuitous for land-bound humans, who could suffer from decreased walking

efficiency. However, study participants were not aware of anything unusual in

their gaits, so the flexible-footed have nothing to fear.

Hot Landscaping Trend - Container plants Add pizazz to your front porch with container plants. This simple trick

instantly makes your home more welcoming. Containers and plants

should vary by type and size and be placed on multiple levels. And you can

keep this hot trend cheap by repurposing metal tubs, buckets and pails as

planters. Keep it simple by matching plants of different heights for depth.

Greek Snapper on the Grill 12 (8-oz.) snapper or grouper fillets

Cleaning and seasoning your new or old grill Did you get a new grill for Father’s Day? Here are your tips for

cleaning and seasoning it.

Cleaning: Burn and scrape off any food bits stuck to the grates. Turn

all the burners on high for a gas grill with the lid down. Let the flames

burn until any residue has turned into a white colored

ash. Brush gently with either a brass bristle brush or

a makeshift foil cleaning brush made like this:

crumble heavy-duty foil into a ball about the size of

a tennis ball. Hold the ball in a pair of sturdy 12-inch

locking chef tongs and brush away! Remember to

use heavy-duty foil or the ball will disintegrate.

Seasoning: The most effective method is to fill the cooking grate with

uncooked fresh sausages such as bratwurst or Italian sausage, but any

food with a medium- to high-fat content that will cook for at least 30

minutes is ideal. Cook the sausages at a lower temperature than normal

to suit this.

Grill the sausages slowly on a low-medium heat until bubbling hot and

very brown. Remove the sausages from the grill, then re-set the burners

to high, letting the grill burn off the residue until it turns white, about

20 to 30 minutes. Do this while you enjoy the grilled sausages! When

you are done eating, clean the cooking grates by rubbing them with foil

or a brush again.

Never Be Terrible With Names Again

If you live in fear of not being able to remember that former co-workers name

when you run into her at a party, FEAR NOT! Here are excellent cheats to help

you look flawless and gracious in those awkward encounters.

1. Enlist help! Your spouse can save you! As you approach the person, say

“Hello, so nice to see you. This is my husband/wife, Bob/Jill.” As your

spouse shakes hands, the person will most likely introduce themselves now

that you’ve opened the door. For example, “It’s so nice to meet you. I’m

Barbara. I worked with your wife at ABC Company.”

2. Spouse even more to the rescue! If your spouse remembers the person’s

name they can jump right in with a “Barbara, so nice to see you again. I

haven’t seen you since Stephanie worked at ABC Company.”

“Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes.”

August  Clients  of  the  Month-  Phillip  and  Gloria  Mitchell

Phillip  and  Gloria  Mitchell  have  been  long-‐time  residents  of  Venice,  moving  here  in  1998  from  Kentucky.    After  making  the  decision  to  move  to  Florida,  Phillip  and  Gloria  began  their  search  for  the  perfect  location.

“We  had  a  Florida  map  and  pinpointed  all  the  places  we  wanted  to  see,”  Gloria  said.    “We  actually  stumbled  upon  Venice  by  accident.”

“We  were  coming  from  Ft.  Myers,”  Phillip  said.    We  saw  a  sign  that  said,  ‘Venice’,  so  we  stopped  for  lunch,”  Phillip  said.

Gloria  and  Phillip  fell  in  love  with  Venice  and  decided  this  was  the  place  for  them.

“We  took  a  vote  and  the  vote  was  unanimous,”  Phillip  said.  “We  bought  our  house  on  the  Island  in  1994  and  moved  here  permanently  in  1998  after  we  retired  from  the  Army.”

Phillip  and  Gloria  both  share  a  long  career  with  the  Army.

“I  retired  after  41  years  with  the  Army,”  Phillip  said.    “I  joined  the  paratroopers  at  17-‐years  old  and  after  eight  years  of  jumping  out  of  planes,  I  decided  to  go  back  to  school  to  study  electronics.    I  became  a  Production  Superintendent  dealing  with  radar  &  missile  systems.”

Gloria  retired  from  the  Army  after  22  years  of  service  in  an  administrative  capacity.

Gloria  and  Phillip  are  parents  to  five  children  and  grandparents  to  14  grandchildren  and  one  great-‐granddaughter.    Their  family  is  spread  far  and  wide.

Phillip  and  Gloria  enjoy  spending  time  with  family  and  friends  as  much  as  possible.

“With  a  large  family,  there  always  seems  to  be  something  going  on,”  Gloria  said.  “Just  this  month  we’ve  had  four  visitors.”

Phillip  keeps  active  belonging  to  organizations  like  the  82nd  Airborne  Division  and  the  American  Legion.

Gloria  has  always  preferred  helping  behind  the  scenes,  for  her  church,  family,  friends  and  neighbors.

“I  like  to  do  random  acts  of  kindness,”  said  Gloria.  “It’s  more  exciting  to  me  to  do  things  that  way.  I  like  to  give  from  the  heart.”

Gloria  and  Phillip  have  been  faithful  customers  of  1  Stop  Car  and  Truck  Repair  since  about  1995.

“With  1  Stop,  when  you  bring  your  automobile  in  for  repair  you  know  you’re  going  to  get  a  honest  opinion  of  what  your  problem  is,”  Phillip  said.  “We’ve  called  AAA  and  had  our  cars  towed  back  to  1  Stop  from  50  miles  away.”

“Anytime  you  have  people  who  will  take  the  time  to  talk  to  you,  that  says  a  lot.    Willy  is  certainly  a  man  of  integrity.    He  always  has  a  smile.    The  whole  team  goes  out  of  their  way  for  you.”

“I  like  the  fact  that  if  you  need  a  ride  home,  1  Stop  will  give  you  one,”  Gloria  said.    “They’ve  even  picked  up  our  car  for  us.    When  we  think  of  honesty  and  integrity,  we  think  of  1  Stop.”
