BREAKTHROUGHS ARE WHAT WE DOInnovation is in our DNA. It’s why we were the first U.S. college to teach jazz and the first to offer majors in songwriting, music synthesis, and film scoring. It’s why we teach electronic digital instruments and virtual reality. We’re always striving to push music education further, make it better, and drive it in new directions. Since 1945, we have remained committed to not only reflecting the music of today, but shaping the music of tomorrow.

Similarly, we help shape the future for our students. We nurture their creativity, connect them with other musicians, and equip them with the latest knowledge so they can pursue the most promising careers. We help them find advantageous internships and professional opportunities. Even after graduation, Berklee continues to serve as a resource and the hub of a vast network of alumni who can help one another.

THERE’S ONLY ONE BERKLEEBerklee will meet you where you are, offering a host of ways for you to pursue your artistry: Berklee College of Music’s campuses in Boston and Valencia, Spain, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Berklee Online. No matter where you choose to begin, you’ll find there’s no place quite like it.

Page 17: BREAK berkleecollege THE NOISE - CASE

We believe in the value of contemporary music. We recognize that music reflects the times we livein. It is the soundtrack of the human experience, and it demands our attention. So we focus on today’s music in all its forms—from music therapy to video game sound design. Wherever music goes, Berklee is there.

We believe in the power of diversity. Different ideas, opinions, backgrounds, cultures, histories—these all lead to greater inspiration and innovation, a richer educational experience, and the best results, both for our students’ music and their careers. This is why Berklee has students and alumni from more than 100 countries.

We believe that connections are crucial. This includes connections among traditions, instru- ments, and art forms; institutions and artists; and alumni, faculty, and students. We foster such interactions and continuously nurture a dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative global arts community.

We believe in our ability to make a difference. Not only in music education, but in music itself—and in the careers and lives of musicians like you.

ELECTRIFYING: POWER STATION AT BERKLEE NYCHoused in an old ConEd power plant in Manhattan, this complex is the only New York studio large enough to accommodate a full orchestra. Herbie Hancock, Esperanza Spalding, David Bowie, and the cast of Hamilton have all recorded here. As a fully functioning recording studio, it’s the perfect location to offer educational programs, performance space, and resources for New York performing artists. And in a city with 8,000 alumni, it serves as a dynamic laboratory to help realize creative and career potential.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WINTER AND SPRING BREAKTHROUGHSWe use academic breaks to give students an up-close look at key music industry destinations. You and your classmates can visit Nashville, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, and Atlanta, which are all filled with working alumni. Go on studio tours. Attend live recording sessions and industry panels. Connect with alumni, songwriters, producers, and engineers. And get a good feel for where your career might take you one day.

EXPERIENCE BERKLEE IN VALENCIA, SPAINOur campus in Valencia offers all of the college’s trademarks—the accomplished faculty, the state-of-the-art studios and equipment, and the dynamic, diverse student body—in the iconic City of Arts and Sciences. In this entertainment-based cultural and architectural hub, this magnificent campus offers students an extraordinary experience.

As an undergraduate, you can experience Valencia in a number of ways: our First Year Abroad program, our semester-long Study Abroad program, or our Spain Summer Study Abroad program. There is also a variety of graduate and summer programs on the Valencia campus for you to work on your break- through while in Spain.

BREAK THROUGH BORDERSTo keep connected with the entire world of music, we’ve created Berklee Global Partners. This international collective of institutions and individuals offers opportunities abroad for our students and faculty to experience collaborative workshops, master classes, and concerts. Our partnership also makes Berklee more accessible: in some cases, prospective students can study at a participating school to earn credits at a lower cost, and then transfer to Berklee College of Music.

JUMP IN, CONNECT, AND CREATEOur community is filled with talented musicians from many different countries, traditions, and influences. And they all share a drive to break out of their comfort zones and collaborate with you.

It’s no wonder that we have so many ensembles. From Afro-pop to hip-hop to bebop, from Balkan choir to Indian music, you’ll find more than 350 to choose from. The only constant here is perpetual motion: an unceasing drive to engage yourself, experiment, and explore.

berklee.edu/connections

MAKE MORE THAN MUSICAt Berklee College of Music, you’ll find countless ways to engage the community. Maybe you’d like to work at the BIRN (Berklee Internet Radio Network) or Heavy Rotation Records; maybe you’d like to write for FUSION magazine or the Music Business Journal. Consider joining some of the 80 or so clubs on campus—some are music focused, others aren’t. Whether you want to connect with students from your home country or take part in your hobbies (anime, rock climbing, Ultimate frisbee, etc.) with like-minded students, it’s all possible here.
