Take over terminals and apply QINOThree years ago FinCo started to take over tank terminals. After acquiring a terminal, FinCo deploys its experienced team to optimise and automate the terminal straight away. In this process Brainum plays a key role by supplying QINO, that becomes the backbone for the automation of the terminal. Brainum has more than 10 years of experience in automating liquid bulk storage and trading companies. QINO is perfectly fit for tank terminals. All processes and data that are on paper in binders, lists and sheets are transferred to single placeholder in the system. QINO proposes tasks, follows progress and generates reports. This makes managing a tank terminal much easier and more efficient.

Quick route to efficient terminal management According to van Loon, “The change process is not easy for the people who work at the tank terminal. They have to let go of their familiar methods and start to rely on a new, transparent digital system.” At the start of an implementation, FinCo trains the terminal team, and they start to enter data. The FinCo team allows the people to work in their old and the new system in parallel for a short period, but as he explains: “I consistently use QINO myself, share QINO data and ask people to check and use QINO. Within a short period of time, paper files and legacy systems are removed and the terminal runs fully on QINO, providing 24/7 transparent insight and control. This allows us to manage the terminal anytime and anywhere, and focus on improving efficiency.“

The FinCo shareholders including their team of specialists have many years of experience in both the national and international energy markets. The ambition for the coming years is to further expand the activities in the Northwest European downstream energy market by way of organic growth and/or acquisitions.

Thanks to the optimal integration of supply, logistics, sales and marketing, FinCo is in a position to offer their clients products and services at the most competitive conditions with a high level of service and quality. High price volatility in the energy markets requires a strict management policy. FinCo invests in processes to map out financial, credit and operational risks which are then reported to the shareholders and management team on a daily basis.

Brainum’s IT solution, QINO, sets the industry standard with full focus on delivering real time insight in tank terminals performance. The agile team of experts takes care, fulfilling your operational and commercial needs.QINO automates 40 terminals globally, offering over 1500 users 24x7 online access to real-time information.

Brainum currently automates 55 terminals globally, offering over 1750 users 24/7 online access to real-time information.

Improve efficiency and safety John van Loon’s top priority is improving efficiency in the terminals FinCo takes over. To do so, the whole organisation requires real time insight in the key parameters: product volumes, maintenance and safety issues. “Every day I start with QINO. A clear one-page dashboard provides real-time insight in all key performance indicators or KPIs of the terminals, such as stocks. Issues that need attention are clearly marked in red to draw my attention,” says John. “With this insight we can focus, step in and control issues straight away. With QINO I can easily manage many terminals, leaving me time to oversee operations and even make structural improvements.”

Another key priority is safety and compliance. The biggest risk is that tanks spill product. QINO proposes safe routes and actions based on procedures entered. You enter procedures in QINO, so you always have the right version at hand. QINO translates these in tasks and lists for you. You don’t literally have to know the procedure to follow it. Compliance is taken care of. Audits are easy to prepare and perform; you just open QINO. Incidents, findings and improvements are registered and followed according to the “Demming circle”. This minimises human errors and time spent on maintaining procedures and following up on audits. Van Loon states that the number of issues and violations decrease when using QINO.

Moving forwardJohn van Loon is very satisfied with the software, and wishes to expand his business – hand in hand with QINO. Van Loon is confident that the fast growing Brainum team will continue to innovate, allowing him to manage his tank terminals even more efficient.

I start my day with coffee and QINO. Data of all terminals aggregates in my personal KPI dashboard. I focus on the issues highlighted in red needing attention; a very efficient way to manage many terminals.

I can easily save 10% tank terminal management

costs by automating the operations with QINO. Without QINO, I would

not have been able to add so much value

to tank terminals.
