Client: Fusion LifestyleProject: Braintree Leisure CentreLocation: Braintree, EssexArchitect: Pick EverardValue: £750,000

Fusion Lifestyle are a highly experienced sports and leisure managementorganisation, working in partnership with local authorities, schools,colleges, as well as other public sector organisations, to providerecreational sport, health and fitness activities to local communities. Theyare a registered charity, which means that all their incoming resources areused to improve and develop their facilities and activities.

Client Brief: As part of the ongoing programme of development IntegralBuild were engaged to carry out a large scale refurbishment and fit out atBraintree Leisure Centre in Essex.

The works involved an enlarged modern hi-tec gym incorporatingfunctional fitness and free weights area, an improved and upgraded firstfloor studio, a new spin studio, crèche area, upgraded changing facilitiesacross the centre including upgraded mechanical and electricalinstallations. A new food servery was constructed & installed to allow thesupply of light meals during functions. A new swipe card entrance dooraccess system was installed for better control/segregation of the Schoolpupils during School hours.

Logistics: With the centre being attached to the local secondary schoolthe logistics of the site were particularly challenging with regard toprogramme and day to day deliveries. Whilst at the same time ensuringthat the leisure centre was kept fully operational during the 15 weekproject, this was achieved via a multiple phase programme and theintroduction of temporary screens and hoardings to ensure site works andmembers were kept safely apart.

Integral Build’s on site Project Manager worked closely with centre andschool management to ensure no works interfered with the ongoingoperations in the centre and the school, this was successfully achievedwith handover taking place as planned at the end of the school holidays.
