InstallingtheBrainfingersSoftwareDownloadandinstallthelatestversionofthesoftwarefromhttp://www.brainfingers.com/ba70.htm Oncethesoftwareisinstalled,dependingonyourcomputersetup,youmayneedtosetthesoftwaretorunwithAdministratorprivilege.ThiscanbedonebyrightclickingontheBrainfingersBAsoftwareicon,thenclickonProperties,Compatibility,ChangeSettingsforallUsers,andthencheckthebox‘RunthisprogramasanAdministrator.’ SettingUptheBrainfingersHardware Thehardwareconsistsof:• BrainfingersHeadband• Amplifier• USBCable,foundbehindblackliner• ThreeSetsofReplacementSensors,foundbehindblackliner• TubeofSensorGel,foundbehindblackliner UsetheUSBCabletoconnecttheAmplifiertoyourcomputer.Theheadbandismadeupof6sensors;theyhaveashinyside,whichfacesout.Thedullgreysideistheactualsensor,whichpressesagainsttheforehead.Thegraywirewiththeplugneedstorundownthelefthandsideoftheheadandbepluggedintothefrontoftheamplifier.Theheadbandisadjustablebyusingtheelasticcordwiththecordspringstopforfineadjustmentandtheclamponthethickwireforgrossorlargeadjustment.Tomovetheclampyouhavetofirstloosentheelasticcordaroundtheclamp. Oncetheheadbandhasbeenputonitshouldbeplacedinthemiddleoftheforehead.Makesureallsixsensorsaretouchingtheforehead.Itisagoodideatocheckthateachsensorisingoodcontactwiththeforeheadusingagentlefingertouchtotheshinysideofeachsensor.

ClickonOkaybutton.ThiswilltakeyoutotheBalanceCheckwindow.BalanceCheckWindow

TheBalanceCheckwindowshowsyourmusclesignalinyellowandabalancelineinred.Noticehowsmooththeyellowlineisandhowcloseitistotheredlineintheaboveexample.Thisisthedesiredresponsetoachieve.

TheBalanceCheckwindowprovidesinformationabouthowgoodtheheadbandconnectionis.Ifyourelaxyourfacialmusclestheyellowmusclelinewillbecomesmootherandmovedowntowardstheredbalanceline.Tocontrolathirdpartysoftwarepackage,suchasGrid3,nextselectDesktopAccess.DesktopAccess

Fromhereyoucanreviewyourcontrolbeforelaunchingontoyourdesktop.

TheReviewProfilewillshowyourmusclesignal(yellowline)andaTriggerline.Whenyoucarryoutamuscleaction(e.g.eyebrowraise,swallow,clenchingteethtogetheretc)andyourmusclesignalgoesabovetheTriggerlineitwillactivateacomputerevent“SimpleSw”.Thistriggeractionisshownintheimageabove.FurthernotethattheEvent1thatwillbetriggeredis“GridSw1”.SwitchAdjust IfyouselectAdjust–CS1youwillbeabletoadjustyourcontrol,aCS1MuscleSwitchAdjustwindow(shownbelow)willappeartotheleftoftheReviewProfilewindow. Thethreeadjustmentoptionsallowyouto

• Shift–MoveyourmusclesignallineinrelationtotheTriggerline,thiscanbeusedifyourmuscleactionisonlyverysmallortoobig.

• Magnify–Adjustthemusclesignalsothatitrequireslessormoreeffort. • Smooth–Thiswillsmoothandflattenoutthemusclesignal;itwillalsoallowthe

switchtorespondslower.

ClosetheadjustmentwindowbyselectingApplyorCancel.ThenwithintheReviewProfilewindowselectContinuetogototheLaunchwindow.

LaunchThecontrolatlaunchsettingscanbeleftasstandard,thoughyoumaywishtoturnontheswitchsoundBrainfingersmakeswhenyougooverthetriggerline.WhenreadytogotoyourdesktopselectLaunch.

TheBrainfingersscreenwillnowshrinkdowntoasmallboxintheupperright,shownbelow,thatshowsyourBrainfingerscontrolwindow.YoucannowstartGrid3andsetitupforusingitwiththeBrainfingerssoftware.

WiththeBrainfingerssoftwarerunning,Grid3canbesetupforswitchaccess.Tosetthisup,gototheMenubar–Settings–Access–Switches–Connection.ItneedstobesettoThirdPartyInputdevice.

OnceselectedunderSwitchesgotoActivation,onthisSwitchScanningscreenyoucansetupthescanpatternandtimingfortheswitchscan.Whenyouhavefinishedsettingitallup,itcanbetestedfromtheTestbuttonatthebottomofthescreen.

Onthetestpagewhenyoumakeyourmuscleactionyoushouldhearthebeep(unlessturnedoff)fromtheBrainfingerssoftwareandalsoseeitscanning.OncetestedyoucanthenpressOK,Grid3willnowbesetupforusingtheBrainfingers.

LicensingorExtendingDemoTrialOnceinstalledthesoftwarewillrunonacomputerfora30-daytrial.Afterpurchaseatrialversioncanbeconvertedtoalicenseversion.IfthisisaDemoOnlysystemthetrialperiodcanbeextendedwhenneeded.ThisisdonefromtheBrainfingerssoftware;clickthebuttonforLicense(topright).TheLicensescreenswillindicatehowmanytrialdaysareleftandgivetheoptiontoactivatelicenseorextendthedemotrialperiod.

ForActivation,youneedthelast5digitsofAmplifierSerialNumberandHardwareID.TheserialnumberisfoundonthebottomoftheAmplifier,anexampleisshownbelow:

Followthedirectionsinthelicensescreentosendthelast5digitsofserialnumberandtheHardwareIDtosupport@brainfingers.com.Wewillcreateandpostanactivationfile,andemailalinktothepostbacktoyou. HeadbandMaintenanceCleaning TheBrainfingersheadbandandsensorscanbecleanedwithanAlcoholwipeorsoapandwaterwipe.Makesureheadbandisdrybeforeusing. ReplacingSensors Thesensorsontheheadbandusuallyneedtobereplacedbetween4–7months.Thesensorsjustsnapontothebackoftheheadbandandcanbereplacedbygentlyunsnappingtheoldsensorandthenpushingonanewone.Thepictureofthisisbelow.
