Discuss in small groupsEssential questions

Compare/contrast the Digital Immigrant and Digital NativeIn what ways does our status as Digital Immigrants cause us to

struggle to reach out to our technologically savvy students? What are some ways to make our immigrant accents less

distinguished to our students? What are the advantages that digital natives have over our

generations?Discuss why the following assumption is no longer valid:

“Digital Immigrant teachers assume that learners are the same as they have always been, and that the same methods that worked for teachers when they were students will work for their students now.”

What have we done and what do we still need to do to be the ultimate learners?

Tips for SearchingBuild your own search string—like stringing beads on a

stringTerms: the words you enter in your search box

use common words use words absolutely essential to your topic

Search String: group of terms do not need to use the word and or + leave space between terms

Phrase Search: two or more words in a specific order Use for common phrases or proper names Put words in quotation marks Ex: “peanut butter” Ex: What rights does everyone in the world deserve to have?

Common phrase is “human rights” not “rights everyone deserves”

Page 11: BRAIN REFOCUS

More TipsNegative Term: exclude certain terms

Use when there are ambiguous terms Ex: If you are looking for information on eagles (bird)

Search could be: bird eagles –football Use to exclude certain websites

Ex: If you are looking for information on eagles Search could be: eagles territory –football –wikipedia

Site Operators: can select types of web sites Use to get reliable educational sites, government sites Ex: site:edu (no space before or after the colon) Ex: eagles site:edu

CTL F: helps to locate your word or phrase on the pageSearch for a filetype

Ex. Eagles filetype:ppt
