BrahMos India-Russia Joint Venture
Indian Navy on 21 April 2017 successfully test-fired the BRAHMOS land attack supersonic cruise missile in the Bay of Bengal, joining an elite club of navies to have the capability to strike on land targets from sea.
The long-range missile was fired from a guided missile frigate INS Teg on a target on land and it yielded desired results.
This successful maiden firing of BRAHMOS Land Attack Supersonic Cruise Missile has significantly enhanced the prowess of Indian Navy and has placed India into the club of select few nations.
The Indian Army on 02 and 03 May 2017 consecutively test fired an advanced version of BRAHMOS land-attack cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, revalidating the weapon's strike capability.
The back-to-back test firing of the block III version of the missile demonstrated the weapon's unmatched lethality of hitting the centre of a designated target in a "top attack configuration“ with "bull's eye" precision, meeting all flight parameters in a copybook manner.
BRAHMOS, the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile created history on 22 Nov 2017 after it was successfully flight-tested first time from the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30MKI against a sea based target in the Bay of Bengal. The missile was gravity dropped from the Su-30 fuselage, and the two stage missile’s engine fired up and straightaway propelled towards the intended target at Bay of Bengal.
The successful maiden test firing of BRAHMOS Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) from Su-30MKI will significantly bolster the IAF’s air combat operations capability from stand-off ranges. BRAHMOS ALCM weighing 2.5 ton is the heaviest weapon to be deployed on India’s Su-30 fighter aircraft modified by HAL to carry weapons. BRAHMOS, the world-class weapon with multi-platform, multi-mission role is now capable of being launched from Land, Sea and Air, completing the tactical cruise missile triad for India.
