Indonesia wins UNSC vote

The Maldives failed to get elected to the UN

Security Council as a non-permanent member.

Maldives and Indonesia had contested for a seat

in the UNSC, but in the plenary session held at

the UN headquarters in New York, Indonesia

A team of city-based archaeologists from Deccan

College have confirmed that the Vakataka

dynasty ruled from its capital Nandivardhan, or

the present day Nagardhan, a large village

discovered near Ramtek taluka in Nagpur

district.The place has been of great significance

to this dynasty, which ruled between 250 – 550

CE. It is the same dynasty that built the Ajanta

caves in Aurangabad.

Terracotta objects depicting images of gods,

animals, humans along with amulets, scotches,

wheels, skin rubbers, spindle whorls were

discovered.

Rs. 14.30 crore sanctioned for Block level

sports in Jammu & Kashmir

Grants-in-aid amounting to Rs. 14.30 crore

(Rupees Fourteen Crore & Thirty Lakh) has been

sanctioned for Bock level sports in the State of

Jammu and Kashmir under the ‘Khelo India’

Scheme by the Union Sports Ministry,

Government of India. An amount of Rs. 10 lakh

per Block will be spent under the scheme in all

the 143 Blocks of 22 Districts of J&K.

KVIC has created a world record of distributing

maximum number of bee-boxes in one day. This

was achieved by the KVIC in the Zangalee Army

area at Kupwara in Kashmir beating its previous

best of 1000 bee boxes distributed in Kaziranga

forest area among theMishing tribe on the

occasion of World Honey Bee Day. Two thousand

three hundred thirty(2330) bee-boxes were

distributed among 233 beneficiaries in the

Zangalee Army area.

Railways, IT Ministry ink pact to allow

ticket bookings

Common Service Centres (CSCs) that provide

Internet infrastructure to rural areas will act as

banking correspondents and there are plans to

sell insurance too in the future.

Under CSC, around 5,000 villages will also have

access to Wi-Fi choupals. The platform aims to

connect 2.5 lakh gram panchayats through optic

fibre network.

Police Public Residential School opened in

Chennai

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappaadi K.

Palaniswami inaugurated Police Public

Residential School on June 13. The school is set

up temporarily on the Tamil Nadu Police

Academy (TNPA) premises at Oonamancherry

near Vandalur in Kancheepuram District.

Later, it will be shifted to a 10 acre Campus at

Melakottaiyur.

The school will be providing residential education

till class five in English medium. Children of

GLONASS-M SATELLITE

Russia launched a Soyuz-2.1 carrier rocket from

the plesetsk space centre to orbit a Glonass-M

satellite. GLONASS-the Russian acronym for

‘Global Navigation Satellite System’. The Gloness

network provides real time positioning data for

surface, sea and airborne objects around the

globe. At an accuracy reportedly on par with

ther U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS) with

this launch, there are now 26 Gloness satellites

Scientists have found widespread uranium

contamination in groundwater from aquifers

across 16 states in India, much above the WHO
