PC NOTES Planning Application for the Newburgh site: Following the withdrawal of the Newburgh planning application we await developments as the Newburgh board consider what to do next. We do know they are considering their whole presence in Bradwell. Once any definite news is available it will be communicated via this column. Neighbourhood Plan: The next public meeting is now planned for Tuesday 8th July in the Memorial Hall and all resi-dents are encouraged to attend. Please see the article on the front page. Youth Club: The Youth Club is now closed for the summer. Following loss of availability of the Youth Club premises all the furniture and equipment is now being either disposed of or stored, hopefully pending the availability of somewhere to go. The pool tables have already been sold. The parish council is very keen that the Youth Club can continue and is urgently seeking alternative premises in close proximity to the centre of the village. If anyone knows of suitable premises, please con-tact the Parish Clerk. Carnival 2014: Planning continues apace and the various acts and events have already been booked. This year, as well as the regular favourites (e.g. Queens, Castleton Silver Band, Billerettes, Climbing Wall), new attractions have been ar-ranged (e.g. Body Zorbs, Assault Course, Wild West Activity Centre and a real Glider). This year the benefits of the street collection will be shared by three village organisations, and the management of car parking will be for the benefit of the Bowls Club. Due to persistent problems of the bunting being dragged down by passing vehicles and the use of street-lighting standards being denied by County Council, there will only be restricted bunting this year. Residents are encouraged to decorate the front of their properties, especially if they live on the procession route. Library Services: The proposal by DCC to reduce even fur-ther the Library Services provided to villages was discussed by Council. This proposal, currently under consultation, is to reduce the visit of the library van to one half day per month. Council has written to DCC Cllr Twigg in support of residents who feel strongly about these proposed cuts. Bus Stops: The request for a new Bus Stop in the village was investigated by council during this month and this will now be discussed at the next council meeting. Contacts:- PC Chair (Paul Downing – 623941) Parish Clerk (Steve Lawless – 620329)

& Level 2, which we will offer to volunteers in our community who would like to get involved in running the club. Bradwell Sports Club is run solely by volunteers who all lead busy lives. If you have a couple of hours a week to spare and would like to get involved we would welcome help with cleaning the pavilion, (especially during the football season) emptying bins, litter picking, weed control and strimming around the car park. There is no commitment to any of these jobs so feel free to just go and do or contact us via e-mail [email protected] or telephone Debbie 07805473202, Claire 07967991265 or Hilary on 07813734366

If you have art or craft work that you wish to dis-play in the Church Exhibition, please bring it into Church during Friday 1st August from 9.30am. People come from far afield to see this Exhibition and they always comment on the won-derful talent that there is in Bradwell. If you haven’t displayed your work before, please consider doing so this year. If you need any help with transportation, speak to anyone on the PCC and we will arrange it. Also, we would like to set out W.W.1 Memorabilia. If you have such items please consider bringing them along for display. The Gala Service at St Barnabas will be on Sunday 3thAugust at 9:15am. Blessing of the Wells is on Sunday 3rd August at 7pm. Open Gardens is Saturday 9th August and Gala Praise will be on Sunday 10th August at 3pm.

THANK YOU Many Thanks to everyone who contributed to making the St. Barnabas Summer Party so successful. It could not have happened without you! It was a good day and a friendly and joyous occasion. The Party raised £1147.60 for the Church general fund, which shows once again the generosity of Bradwell people. You are all stars! Doreen C-M

BRADWELL’S BELGIAN REFUGEES The continuation of this story is being held over to the Au-gust edition for reasons of lack of space.

A NEW LOOK FOR THE SAMUEL FOX They’ve been giving the Samuel Fox a bit of a makeover. Gone are the conservatory furniture, floral carpet and acres of stained wood panelling. In comes contemporary furniture, with chairs in a rich mix of fabrics, new carpet and newly painted panelling. With new lighting and wall decorations James feels there is an entirely new look and feel to the place. Why not pop in and see what you think? There’s a couple of Bradfield real ales on tap, several wines by the glass and, of course their award winning dishes.

CHILDREN’S SOCIETY BOX COLLECTION We will be collecting the Children’s Society Boxes at St Barnabas on Thursday, July 17 from 10.30 to 12.30pm. If you have a Children’s Society Box, please bring it along then. We’ll also have tea and coffee available, so come along and have a drink and a chat too. If anyone is inter-ested in having a box or would like to know more, please contact Lynn on 620329.

INFANT SCHOOL Children at Bradwell Infant School have been studying nature. They began looking after caterpillars of the na-tive butterfly “painted lady” in the classroom during May. When the caterpillars matured into butterflies last week, it coincided with a visit to Bradwell Community Orchard. As part of their

visit, the children released all ten butterflies into the thriving wildlife habitat amongst the fruit trees and natural grassland. The butterflies looked at home immediately and the children searched the area for other native species, finding a varied selection of insects, spiders, slugs and snails. It was also fun to discover more about the orchard and the fruit trees from Ellie Dunn. She pointed out the immature fruits already devel-oping on the apple trees and the rhubarb and gooseberries which are flourishing in the warmer weather. The orchard is supported by Hope Construction Materials and is a lovely, tran-quil spot to enjoy nature and enjoy the peace.

WELL DRESSINGS PLEASE, WE NEED HELP on Sunday 27th July at 9.30am FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS to help the Wells Committee put the clay in the Wells frames ready to petal in time for Gala Week. Could you give us a bit of help do you think? We really would appreciate it. Either just turn up on the Sports Field at the tin hut near the river or ring Jackie on 01433 620769. Be lovely to see you. Don't forget......don't wear your Sunday Best! A special thanks to those who helped last year - see you again on the 27th?

CARNIVAL The theme this year for the Gala is “EXPLORERS from this world and beyond” giving a wide scope for ideas for partici-pants. We will have all the usual stalls and entertainment on Beggers Plot after the procession, with prizes for the kids’ fancy dress competition. There will be a kids / adults Art and Crafts competition this year for all ages to enter. Any style of art or craft is welcome to participate and create a drawing, painting, sculpture or craftwork on the theme of the Gala. Entrants will be judged on the day. With prizes for dif-ferent age groups and adults separately.

CORRECTION In last month’s newsletter Barbara Armitt sent a thank you for flowers and messages of sympathy on the death of her Mum. This should of course have been from Barbara and Terry Ar-mitt and family, and we apologise for the mistake.

THANK YOU A "THANK YOU" is long overdue to Rebellion Knoll W.I. for the immense amount of pleasure that their beautiful tubs extend to not only Bradwell residents, but also the many visitors who are frequently welcomed to our village. Al-though the winter tubs are still flowering profusely, thanks to our mild winter, we look forward to the summer tubs. Addi-tionally, the W.I. Town Bottom Garden is always a joy to behold. Sincere congratulations ladies and thank you all for your hard work, time and effort involved in achieving such lovely results.

RESPECTING THE CATTLE Residents using the footpath from The Hills across to Hazel-badge farm will have noticed a lot of cows with young and maybe even a bull in the field. If you plan to walk this foot-path do please make absolutely sure you have any dogs on a lead. It is also sensible to avoid walking between the cows and their calves if they anywhere close to the foot-path. The owners of Hazelbadge farm will be quite happy for you to deviate from the path to walk around the animals.
