The Kenpo Crest (from wikipedia.com)

International Kenpo Karate Association crest

The design of the I.K.K.A Crest was completed in 1958 when the art of American Kenpo was gaining international notoriety. The crest design was meant to symbolically represent the art's modernized formwhile simultaneously acknowledging the roots of American Kenpo in traditional Chinese and Japanese martial arts.

TigerRepresents bravery, power, and physical strength. It is the early stage of a martial artist's learning. It is important to work on the basics (e.g to have a good horse stance) to prepare the body for later advancement. Also, the Tiger in Chinese culture represent the celestial guardian of the West cardinal direction. The yin aspect of individual.

DragonRepresents quintessence, fluidity, and agility, but also spiritual strength and the later stage of a martial artist's training. The dragon is placed above the tiger in the crest to symbolize the importance of mental/spiritual strength over physical strength. This does not mean that physical strength is unimportant. What it does imply is that martial artists need to have a good moral to guide their physical action. Also, the Dragon in Chinese culture represent the celestial guardian of the East cardinal direction. The yang aspect of individual.

CircleThe circle represents continuity.

Dividing LinesThe lines within the circle represent the original methods of attack first learned by ancient practitioners of the Chinese martial arts. They also demonstrate the pathways which an object could travel by.

ColorsThe colors are representations of proficiency within the art alluding to the colored belt ranking system. The white represents the beginning stages and progresses through to black (expert level) and then red (professorship).

Chinese CharactersThe writing acknowledges the art's Eastern roots. The characters on the right of the crest translate to "Law of the Fist, "Tang/Chinese Hand (唐手)" or "Empty Hand"(空手)" a.k.a. "Kenpo Karate". The characters on the left translate to "Spirit of the Dragon and the Tiger."

ShapeThe shape of the crest represents the structure of a house. The walls and roof are curved to keep evil from intruding. The ax at the bottom of the crest is a solemn reminder that should a martial artist tarnishthe reputation of the organization they will be "cut off" completely.

1. THE TIGER — represents earthly strength derived during the early stages of learning. This is the stage wherethe individual is more impressed with his own physical prowess.

2. THE DRAGON — represents spiritual strength which comes with seasoning. This mental attitude is attained during the individual’s later years of training. It is placed above earthly strength (as indicated and observed on the patch) since the individual at this stage has learned to develop humility and self restraint.

The attitude of the Dragon is the ultimate goal of KENPO. Armed with this attitude an individual will not be afraid of the opponent but of what he can do to the opponent. Thus he turns his back and walks away from an unwarranted conflict confident that he could have been the victor.

3. THE CIRCLE — is symbolic of several things: (1) It depicts life itself, a continuous cycle where there is no beginning nor end. So is it with the art of KENPO, it too is a cycle of perpetual and unending movement or motion. Techniques follow a cycle, movements are a part of a cycle, physical prowess, humility and self restraint are no more than components of a progressive learning cycle; (2) All moves evolve from a circle whether they are offensive or defensive; (3) The circle represents the bond of friendship that should continuously exist among IKKA members; and (4) The circle is the base from which our alphabet stems.

4. THE DIVIDING LINES — in the circle represents: (1) the original eighteen hand movements—directions in which the hands can travel; (2) They are the angles from which an opponent or you can attack or defend; and (3)it forms the pattern in which the feet too can travel—explanation of the Universal Pattern will clarify this.

5. THE COLORS — represents proficiency, achievement and authority. The circle is GRAY because it is symbolic of the brain—the brain of the IKKA, since the brain has always been referred to as GRAY matter. The WHITE background is significant of the many beginners who form the base of the Art. The YELLOW and ORANGE represents the first level of proficiency—the mechanical stage—the dangerous stage in learning wherethe student is more impressed with the physical who, like the freshman in college, thinks he knows all of the answers. BROWN, the color of the Tiger's eyes, represents the advanced students though not in great number. Also at this level the student becomes more observant. His eyes, like that of the Tiger, are keen, ever so watchful and critical, always looking up to the higher levels of proficiency, striving for perfection, preparing for theday he bares the level of an expert. This level of expert proficiency is represented by the color BLACK. RED is that of professorship over and above BLACK but yet, as indicated by the colors of the Dragon, there are still traces of WHITE in the Dragon's eyeball, YELLOW or ORANGE on the Dragon's fins, BROWN in the iris of the eyeball, and BLACK in the pupils of the eyeball. This is to remind even the Professor that he too should always be so humble and be able to go back to any level, whatever it might be, and perform the things that he expects of others at these levels so as never to demand too much of his students.

6. THE ORIENTAL WRITING — is a reminder of the originators of our Art—the Chinese. It is in respect to them but not that we serve them. The lettering to the right means KENPO KARATE—Law of the Fist and the Empty Hand—the art that we practice. To the left it means Spirit of the Dragon and the Tiger—a constant reminder that we want to attain the spiritual level and that the physical level is only a stepping stone or vehicle, that we use to reach the higher or spiritual level.

7. THE SHAPE — The TOP of the crest is like a roof which gives shelter to all who are under it. The SIDES )( are curved conversely because, like the roof of a Chinese home, it is to send evil back to where it came from, whenever it tries to descend. The BOTTOM forms the shape of an axe—it represents the executioner—in the event a member is influenced by evil ideas and thoughts contrary to our philosophy, or shames the IKKA organization, he is cut off, never to coexist with us again.

Begging Hands Straight wrist grab to both wrists from 12:00

Step back right into a left neutral bow as you rotate your hands inward, palms upward, reverse rotation to palms downward outward thrusting / striking with open palm to outward. This breaks wrist grab and opens / spreads opponent's arms. Before fully breaking opponent's grip draw opponent forward off balance toward you, this controls opponent's height and width. Opponent is bent slightly forward, controlling height and drawn slightly toward you controlling width. This keeps opponent off balance and unable to attack.

Rotate hands inward, upward, toward you pulling opponent inward, then rotate downward slappingoutward to spread hands.

Draw into left front cat stance, left front upward snap kick to groin (use bridge of foot to strike directly upward into groin, not traditional ball of foot outward kick), step through right kick to sternum / mid-section (kick with ball of right foot to chest to straighten opponent upright in preparation for palm heel thrusts), right foot down, shuffle-forward with double palm strike to floating ribs on each side from straight on. Broken Rod Rear - Right Hand Pistol, pressed to your back

Raise your hands in standard “hands up” position, hands at shoulder height. Pivot clockwise (right) (180 degrees) into a transitory right front rotating twist stance (rotate on right heel and left ball of foot). As you rotate around toward your right parry opponent's extended gun hand (opponent's right arm) with your right forearm. Continue torotate right fully around. Change right hand parry into shape of the crane and hook opponent's right arm toward the wrist. Bring left arm under opponent's gun arm (right arm) and execute upward strike with my left arm / forearm against opponent's gun arm (hyper extend opponent's right arm between the wrist grab with your right hand the upward elbow strike with your left hand). Move my left arm down and around to trap opponent's right arm against my body by bringing opponent's right arm against my body, having my left arm over and along opponent's right arm, trapping opponent's right arm, grasp opponent's right wrist with my left hand. Slide my righthand to opponent's pistol barrel and grasp opponent's gun from the top of the slide. This effectively either traps the pistol's slide, stove pipes the empty casing the ejection port of a shot is fired or places the web of your right hand between thumb and fingers between pistol hammer and body. This hopefully disables the weapon. Rotate my right hand upward and inward toward opponent's face, rotating (leveraging) the pistol out of the opponent's grasp. Continue motion of my right hand holding the pistol toward opponent's face. Cross over step with right foot over left. Strike opponent's face with the hammer area of the pistol. Rotate left, unwinding the cross over step, rotate right hand with firearm around so pistol muzzle faces opponent and bring muzzle down to strike against opponent's chest in a hard strike. Step up left (with left foot) toward 4:30. Bring pistol (my right hand) up and over opponent's right arm in a smooth circular motion. Put left hand up to opponent's right shoulder to block. Bring right hand (holding barrel of pistol) around and under opponent's right arm providing a block of opponent's right arm. Step left toward 4:30 as needed to have a gauging step. Chamber right foot in preparation to right knife-edge kick to opponent's far (left) knee. My right hand, holding the pistol, was under opponent's right arm. As we rotate left to chamber and prepare right kick bring right hand holding pistol toward my left side executing pistol hammer end strike to opponent's exposed right ribs. With my right foot execute a right foot knife-edge kick to opponent's far (left) knee collapsing opponent to their knees. Strike with butt of pistol to head / neck area in circular motion sweeping pistol well past opponent's head. Bring the pistol back toward my left in secondary strike with pistol butt to opponent's face. Cross over and out.

Keep my elbows in to get the rotational force of my body added to the arm bar rotation. Rotate right toward opponent with wrist lock (remember opponent's right hand is holding the knife) causing opponent to bend at waist with right arm in locked arm bar. Kick with my forward left foot opponent's groin (return foot to ground). Step up right and kick with my right foot to opponent's far knee. Set my right foot down toward opponent. While landing the right foot forward after the kick strip the weapon (knife) from the opponent. Defying the Rod Right Front Pistol to your Chest

Move left hand inward across centerline (to get on the inner side of the gun) as you are putting your hands up. Execute a left outward parry (base is block) directing the barrel away from your body.

Simultaneous with left hand parry execute right foot snap kick to groin and right hand finger poke to eyes.Kick to groin and eye poke simultaneous.

Set my right foot down near opponent along opponent’s centerline. As I set my foot down strike opponent’s extended right arm bicep with my right hammer fist, numbing arm. Simultaneous with step and strike rotate my left hand parry into left hand grab of opponent's wrist (possibly left hand crane hook of opponent's wrist).

Rotate left executing a right elbow circular strike to ribs (along path).

Continue turning my body toward left, change left hand parry into left hand crane hook or wrist grab to trap opponent's right hand holding gun.

Cross my right hand over opponent's extended right arm, and bring my right hand down to grab pistol at barrel from the outside. My fingers should wrap around barrel with my index finger forward toward the barrel end (basically wrap my fingers around the pistol in the same direction as if I were holding the pistol).

Lever the pistol upward and outward out of opponent’s grip. While maintaining grip on opponent’s left wrist, rotate my body rightward, while rotating step with my right foot behind my left foot, continue rotating rightward to end in a left neutral bow, While rotating my body sweep pistol around to strike opponent on the back / side of the neck with handle / butt of pistol. Hook opponent’s head downward into a bending position.

Keep opponent’s right arm extended.

Continue circular motion of my right hand, the one holding the pistol, into a circular arc down, back around up, and over the top to land with the butt / handle of the pistol square into my opponent's back (remember opponent is bent over). Simultaneous with pistol strike use my right knee strike to opponent's sternum.

From right knee up position, execute right foot knife-edge strike to opponent's far, left, knee. Simultaneous with knife-edge kick bring the pistol, my right-hand, up toward my left shoulder. Right hand/ pistol is cocked to deliver strike.

Re-chamber right foot, continuing right foot motion to end in right foot in front of left leg in right front cross over. Simultaneous with right cross over execute right circular arc strike with pistol butt against opponent's head. Continue strike past opponent's head.

Rotate leftward, unwinding twist stance, to put my rear to opponent's bent over body. Simultaneous with unwinding bring right hand, holding pistol, back across opponent's face striking opponent's face with butt of pistol. At end of unwinding twist stance execute a left foot heel kick to opponent's groin. Step over and out.

Entwined Lance Step Right – High Knife Thrust

Bring left foot inward toward right foot, continue left foot motion forward (kind of a left foot C step) to in front of right foot, ending in left twist stance. While moving the left foot also rotate body left (counter clockwise), moving head / upper body offline of attack.

IS IT : A) Bring left hand up to left waiter check / parry. -- this makes more sense OR B) Execute left outward block (hard block) to incoming knife hand. -- this is base

Step with right foot toward 12:00, toward opponent, executing a palm heel to face, keep left check in place.

Rotate right hand clockwise clawing face.

IS IT: -- seem either is correctA) rotate right hand claw counter clockwise, clawing face.ORB) hook face / eyes with right hand, pulling and turning face toward me, in preparation for the eye poke about to come.

Simultaneous actions: Slide my right hand inward along opponent's right arm back to controlling opponent's knife hand with my right hand. Bring my forward, right, leg back toward me, striking the inside of opponent's front, right, leg, sweeping opponent's front, right, leg forward. Execute an eye poke with my left hand.

Kick out with my right foot against opponent's left leg (rear leg). Simultaneous as my right foot kicks forward bring my left hand back to control the knife hand. As my right foot lands execute a right back knuckle strike his right side, forward, floating ribs.

Do a slight rotation inward to execute a right elbow strike to his right, forward, ribs.

Left foot half circle step (five sword step). Right hammer fist strike to opponent's right jaw bone, right hammer fist to opponent's left jawbone.

Cross over and out.

--- alternate from interwebs ---Step forward left foot toward 12:00 into a left front twist with a left outward parry and right palm heel to opponent's right collarbone (argument is if you strike the right collarbone and break it, the opponent is holding the knife in his right hand, breaking the right collarbone will numb / disable the entire right arm, disabling the knife hand). While executing the step forward into the twist stance be sure to lean back awayfrom 9:00, away from the knife. Do not just twist stance and rotate your neck in place or you slice your own neck.

Marriage of the Rams Flank Attack - Left and Right Shoulder Grabs / Two MenTight Grip on both wrists from both sides, my palms down

Anchor both my elbows in. Rotate both my hands inward to facing palms up, check for rain both hands. This rotates opponent’s hands to fingers up, thumbs on the bottom.

Step back right foot toward 6:00 into a left neutral bow while simultaneously doing a snap down with bothhands to execute wrist grab escape. [At this point you could execute a double hammer fist groin strike, the argument not to do the groin strike is because it is off the path of motion for the downward motion of my hands. Could possibly do a finger whip to both groins as the major motion is still on path, do the finger whip in passing.]

Sweep both of my hands back and under opponent's arms. Bring my arms up under opponent's arms, my elbows about in opponent's arm pits, my fists about at back of opponent's neck.

Step forward right executing an uppercut like motion with both of my arms to bring opponent's heads sweeping forward to crash together (similar to snakes of wisdom).

Left knee strike to both faces simultaneous.

Left foot drops down and back after knee strike, right foot steps back, body drops straight down.

Grab both opponent's legs, crane hooks to inside of legs, stand up pulling opponent's legs up off the ground, right kick, left kick.

Cross over and out

Bull Cycle – Level 3 – Stance Set IIMenacing Twirl Rear left hand belt grab

Step back with right foot toward 7:00 into a right rear twist'ish stance.

NOTE ON FOOT PLACEMENT: After the right hammer fist to the groin continue into 180 degree rotation toward 6:00 into a right forward bow and execute a left knife hand to throat and a left knee to groin. Attempt to place right foot when sliding it back to the inside of opponent's left foot such than when you rotate into the forward bow toward 6:00 and execute the knee strike to groin your stance is set up properly.

As you step back with right foot execute a right downward hammer fist to opponent's groin.

Rotate clockwise 180 degrees toward 6:00 into a right forward bow, facing 6:00, while simultaneously delivering a right arm clearing / outward block to the inside of your opponent's left arm (the arm they grabbed with) at the wrist.

Continue motion of rotation to execute left sword hand strike to throat. (end this step in right forward bow toward 6:00, right arm downward / outward block of opponent's left arm, my left hand in sword hand strike to throat)

Simultaneous right sword hand strike to throat and left knee strike to groin.

Set left foot down in twist stance with toes toward 4:30. (Toward opponent's right knee)

Simultaneous left sword hand strike to throat, right knee strike (toward 4:30) to inside of opponent's right knee.

Step down with right foot toward 4:30 executing a right arm bicep pop to opponent's chin.

Cross over and out.

Escape Darkness Left rear flank at 7:30 - right step-through punch

Hop toward 3:00 onto your right foot into a transitory right one-legged stance; counter your opponent's punch with a left thrusting knife-edge kick to his right knee.

Stop opponent with left foot knife edge kick to opponent's forward right knee.

Set my left foot down in gauging step to allow clock-wise rotation circular biset. Rotate clock wise on left foot to bring right foot around almost 270 degrees into circular biset knocking opponent's right leg forward such that opponent ends facing away from you, down on right knee with you behind him. Opponent should be facing away from you, left foot on ground, left knee bent 90, right knee on ground, back mostly vertical.

Step up with left foot, toward opponent's back, knee opponent's back with left knee.

Punch with left fist over opponent's right shoulder into opponent's right side jaw. Continue motion of left fist / arm downward onto opponent's right collarbone trapping opponent back against you left knee, preventing opponent from falling forward.

Rotate leftward slightly bringing right arm down to chest strike with inside of right arm.

Bring right arm under opponent's chin, to their throat, choking opponent with right arm.

Move left arm to back of opponent's neck. Lift up on opponent's head. Rotate rightward, clock-wise, breaking opponent's neck.

Release opponent's neck, cross over left over right foot, stepping toward 12:00.

Cross back, right foot in front of left. Execute left heel hook kick to opponent's head.

Cross over and out.

Back Breaker Right flank right step through punch (from 3:00)

Step with right foot toward 1:30 as you parry incoming punch with left hand (left hand up near your head to parry punch). Bring right arm up into outward block of opponent's arm.

Alternate : When executing the right step, left hand parry, right arm outward block, instead to the right step, left parry, right hand / forearm shearing strike to opponent's extended right arm, striking above the elbow to hyper extend opponent's right arm OR do a upward knuckle strike with my right-hand in passing to opponent's tricep nerve bundle, strike just above elbow with rams fist (knuckles upward). Then continue motion of right arm to right arm outward block.

Step with left foot around behind opponent executing rolling check with right arm along opponent's extended right arm. End facing 6:00 directly behind opponent.

Grab opponent's shoulders / gi at shoulders.

Step back with right foot, bring right knee up into vicious knee strike to middle of opponent's back.

Step back right foot and drag opponent backward and downward onto your forward left thigh (think about being in left forward bow with opponent's back (spine) propped on your left leg).

Double inward knife hand strike to both sides of opponent's neck, artery strikes.

Right hand grabs opponent's chin, left hand placed at top of opponent's head. Vicious twist, chin right, top of head left, to break opponent's neck.

Support opponent's head with left hand, right knife hand / sword hand strike to bridge of nose.

Rolling double back-knuckle strikes to both of opponent's collarbones, breaking both collarbones.

Double claw hand, left under right, step back with left foot, following and clawing opponent's face downward, guiding opponent's head downward toward your (now forward) right foot. Down into close kneel if needed to guide opponent's head to the ground. Guide the head down viciously, slamming the head downward and clawing as it falls.

At this point you are still facing 6:00, facing looking down at opponent on the ground.

Page 53: Brad Hunting Kenpo Karate Forms and Techniques · wrong; then here are my weapons Karate, my empty hands." Ed Parker. The Kenpo Crest ... The lettering to the right means KENPO KARATE…

Rotate counterclockwise 180 toward 12:00 into left forward bow.

Opponent's head is right next to your right foot. Execute right foot rotational heel strike to side of opponent's head.

Right foot heel stomp to opponent's collarbone.

Cross over and out.

Dance of Darkness (Dancing in the Dark) Left step-through front kick followed by a Left punch from 12:00

Begin in left neutral bow, fighting stance. Step back Left into Right twist stance as you execute a Left riding block to the outside of your opponent's Left leg. Maintain you left shoulder forward, do not rotate left (counterclockwise).

Parry incoming punch with your right hand.

Step up with left foot toward 12:00 (toward opponent) executing a left arm upward shearing strike to opponent's extended arm / elbow. Continue motion of left arm around opponent's arm to go over the arm into a left hand double finger poke to opponent's eyes.

With left fingers still poking opponent's eyes, step with right foot toward 3:00, rotating body rightward, clock-wise, dragging opponent's face backward.

Rotate leftward (counterclockwise) and execute double punch strike with right vertical punch to back of neck, left back-knuckle to opponent's left kidney.

Open and place right hand as check on opponent's left shoulder.

Circular motion bring left back-knuckle from left kidney to back-knuckle with left hand to back of opponent's head.

Rotate the left hand, clock-wise, fingers down to clear any hair, rotate left fingers around contour of face to hook opponent's left eye again.

Cross over with right foot in front of left foot, execute sweep of opponent's left leg with my right foot. Tear opponent's left eye with my left fingers, as I pass opponent execute right hand finger eye poke over or under my left arm. End in a bit of a right foot twist stance.

Rotate counterclockwise to neutral bow, executing left elbow / back-knuckle strike to ribs / kidney.

End behind opponent, facing away from opponent, back to back.

Execute left foot straight biset to opponent's left (near) leg, causing opponent to fall backwards along side of you, opponent's head now in front of you, you standing about at opponent's mid-section.

Execute left foot shovel kick to face, set left foot down, execute right knife-edge kick to opponent's face / neck.

Cross over and out.

Twisted Rod Right pistol attack from 12:00

Step up left into a neutral bow while executing a right outward parry to the outside of your opponent's right hand at the pistol. (noted the right hand parry of pistol should be out along the side of the barrel of the pistol, not at the opponent's hand. You will have much more leverage to rotate the muzzle of the pistol with pressure nearer the pistol muzzle rather than at the back of the opponent's hand). Grab opponent's pistol holding wrist with my left hand. Base form is - the back of my right hand pressed back to back against opponent's gun hand. More realistically would be to grab opponent's hand / gun with my right hand.

Step forward with my right foot between opponent's legs, simultaneous rotating opponent's right hand severely backward, into a wrist lock / wrist bar, rotating muzzle of pistol toward my left and around and back to pointing toward opponent. This works best if you anchor your left arm / elbow and rotate the opponent's wrist such that you are pushing downward on their folded wrist.

Continuing rotating counterclockwise from essentially a right neutral bow (or right forward bow) almost 180 degrees to left forward bow almost facing almost 6:00.

When rotating continue with wrist lock / bar forcing opponent to the ground.

Opponent should end on the ground, his head toward your left, you holding the pistol hand in both of yourhands.

Switch hands to allow left hand inward grasp of opponent's wrist. (Release right hand from wrist lock and grab opponent's wrist, release left hand and grab left inner grasp of opponent's wrist, similar to Fallen Falcon)

Go into close kneel, bending opponent's right arm across my left knee, keeping opponent's arm bent at 90 degrees, force opponent to roll onto their left hip. (Fallen Falcon)

Kick opponent's exposed right ribs with my right foot.

Step across opponent's body with my right foot to stomp down pinching skin on opponent's belly / chest with my right heel of foot. Also stomp the tricep of their left arm if it is in path.

Continue to maintain grip on opponent's right wrist (gun hand) with my left hand.

Rotate counterclockwise to left close kneel with my right knee into opponent's throat.

Right hand Spock finger strike to opponent's eyes.

Reach with right hand to strip pistol from opponent's grip.

Rightward / downward strike with pistol butt to opponent's face.

Leftward / circular upward strike with pistol butt / hammer to opponent's face.

Step up and over and out.

Choking the Ram Right arm head lock from 12:00, bent at waist toward 12:00, opponent facing 6:00

• Step up left foot to outside of opponent's right foot.• Left sword hand chop to opponent's right thigh just above knee. (is also a block of opponent's left

knee in event of attempted left knee strike to your face)• Right ridge hand strike to opponent's groin.• Opponent bends over (over your back / right shoulder)• Right backward / upward elbow strike to opponent's bent over face.• Strip opponent's right arm (the arm doing to head lock) with your left hand.• Step right foot forward under opponent's stripped right arm.• Execute right arm elbow strike to opponent's right ribs (hard strike)• Rotate left (counterclockwise).• Grab opponent's extended right arm at the wrist with my right hand.• Continue rotation to left elbow strike to opponent's right ribs.• Bring left arm under opponent's arm to figure 4 lock opponent's extended right arm into arm bar /

lock.• Kick left leg into the air performing a body drop with all my weight bearing down on opponent's

right shoulder.• Bring opponent to the ground.

Piercing Lance Right knife thrust from 12:00

Step forward left toward 10:30 while executing a right downward outward parry to the opponent’s right wrist (the knife wielding hand).

Note: Right downward outward parry is my right hand reaches over to top of opponent's knife hand (right hand), my right finger facing downward, my right palm facing rightward (toward 3:00 and my palm toward back of opponent's knife hand).

Grab opponent's knife hand with my left hand at opponent's wrist.

Put my left arm / elbow over opponent's extended right arm. (going to do an arm bar / hyper extension of opponent's right arm so looking to lock opponent's arm under my left arm and against my left side).

Continue rotating clock-wise / rightward to execute right hard elbow strike to opponent's back / ribs.

Hyper extend opponent's right arm while I'm rotating.

Rotate counterclockwise / leftward, grabbing opponent's wrist (knife hand) with my right hand.

Continue rotating counterclockwise to execute a hard left hand knife hand strike to opponent's throat, causing opponent to fall backwards and to the ground in front of you. By now you have rotated almost around such that my left leg is almost behind opponent (left foot closer to 12:00) and my right foot toward6:00. Maintain grip on opponent's knife wrist with my right hand as opponent falls.

Guide opponent during fall (as much as is possible) or move my left leg / knee (if necessary) to catch opponent's right arm (knife arm) across my left knee / thigh, breaking opponent's right arm.

Grab knife hand with both of my hands.

Rotate knife and stab knife into opponent's chest / throat / eye.

Left hand through window of opportunity to inner wrist grab of opponent's right wrist (Fallen Falcon).

Bend opponent's right arm across my left knee (Fallen Falcon).

Right palm heel strike to opponent's right elbow (Fallen Falcon).

Right hand through the window of opportunity, shift my weight to my right, extend opponent's arm to my right, left palm heel strike to opponent's elbow, left foot knife-edge kick to opponent's face, sweep opponent's arm down with my left foot, cross over and out.

Bear and Ram Right Punch from 12:00 / Bear Hug–Arms Free from 6:00 (Two Men)

Step with left foot left toward 9:00. Right inward block to the wrist of opponent #1 simultaneous with a left inward block just above opponent's elbow (hyper extending, maybe breaking, opponent's extended right arm), simultaneous execute a right front snapping / thrusting kick to the groin (kick stops opponent #1 from advancing toward you).

Step out right, drop weight, execute Crashing Wings (level 2 Eagle Cycle) to opponent #2. Make sure to bring my arms in tight with my elbows almost touching along the center line of my body. Strike down with my elbows against opponent's bear hug, breaking opponent's hold.

Cup and Saucer at my right hip, grasping and holding rear opponent's right arm at wrist.

Slide my left leg in and around and behind opponent's right leg (smooth continuous circular motion).

Rotate counterclockwise / leftward, release opponent's wrist, bring left elbow up into elbow strike to opponent's neck, continue rotating 180 degrees toward 6:00, continue pressing opponent as you rotate, causing opponent to fall / trip backward over you left leg, as opponent fall execute right hammer fist to opponent's chest, driving opponent to the ground. End facing 6:00 in kind of a left forward bow. (This motion is identical to level 2 technique Crashing Wings, Eagle Cycle).

End facing 6:00 with rear opponent on his back, his head toward 6:00, feet toward you.

Right leg rear heel kick to opponent #1. May need to step back with left leg to close distance to Opponent #1 so you can execute the right heel kick. Move as needed to be in position for the kicks.

Right through front kick to opponent #1 (on ground as he tries to rise). Right foot just executed a rear heel kick, bring right foot forward to front kick. Again step as necessary to close distance for the kicks.

Move / step toward 3:00 (my left since I'm facing 6:00) by crossing right foot over left, step toward 3:00 with left foot, end in kind of right neutral bow toward maybe 7:30.

Left leg through front kick to rear opponent.

Footnotes For Long Form 2

1 The inward block should be close to your body (not touching of course) because you are stepping into the punch, but still want to block at the attackers wrist. Same goes for the next move.

2 The slicing hand sword moves from the inward block position, out to attackers neck then back to your hip. This motion pulls you into the eye poke and forward bow.

3 This is the first 4 moves of Five Swords. Your left hand cocks to your waist to show full range of motion.

4 This is a transitional move that gets your hands into position for full range of motion...same as in Short Form 2.

5 We've just done the same moves as in Short Form 2, now we'll add onto it.

6 The right hand is drawn back to show full range of motion on the next move.

7 Your left arm should be tucked at your left side with your fist aiming at attackers face because that's where it'll be going in a minute.

Page 69: Brad Hunting Kenpo Karate Forms and Techniques · wrong; then here are my weapons Karate, my empty hands." Ed Parker. The Kenpo Crest ... The lettering to the right means KENPO KARATE…

8 The universal block consists of a left downward block with a right inward block (in tight).

9 The universal block consists of a right downward block with a left inward block (in tight).

10 Adding onto the same basic move from Short Form 2, this is Thrusting Salute with some additions. Same for the next move.

11 With both this and the preceding move, you want to land from the kick with your kicking foot straight out and torque into the neutral bow with the final punch.

12 The rising forearm comes right up under the attackers chin. The outside of our wrist should be pointing straight up and the first eye poke glides right over your wrist. Your hands stay together while doing the eye pokes, they do not come back to your hip. Same goes for the next move. This is the opposite hand/arm movements of Darting Leaves in Form 4.

13 We learned the inward downward palm-up block in Long Form 1 as an isolation and we're now using it as a block while we move. Something new...

14 Make sure the pushdown/forward bow is a distinct move from the rotating twist stance. Although they should flow together, they should be distinguishable as separate, specific movements. Same goes for the next 2 moves as well.

15 This is the first time we punch first and block second. It's the opposite of second move in Long 1 (left block/right punch).

16 From this move to the end of the form looks like Intercepting The Ram.

17 These elbow isolations are previewing something to come - Short 3, a.k.a. the Elbow Form.

FINGER SET 1

From the Inter-Web

This set contains, and is teaching us, the 7 Methods Of Execution:

Poke, Thrust, Whip, Slice, Hammer, Rake, Hook

1. Do a right 4-finger thrust at face level (3/4 extension, palm down). This move is intended to be done from a longer-range, hence the 3/4 extension (basically means full extension of your arm, but never lock your elbow out).

2. Repeat with left hand.

3. Do a right 4-finger thrust at chest level (1/2 extension, palm in - your hand tipped on it's side). This move is intendedto be done from mid-range, hence the 1/2 extension (your elbow moves forward past your stomach, but not all the way out).

4. Repeat with left hand.

5. Do a right 4-finger thrust at solar plexus level (1/4 extension, palm up, done in uppercut fashion). This move is intended to be done from in close, hence the 1/4 extension (your elbow doesn't move forward past your side).

6. Repeat with left hand.

7. Do a right 4-finger thrust over your left shoulder, palm down.

8. Repeat with left hand.

9. Place your right hand on your left hand (left hand is still on your right shoulder), circle both hands down to the front and do double, 2 finger eye pokes at face level, palm up then palm down.

10.Place your right elbow on the back of your left hand (arms level with your chest), fingers on your right hand are facing away from you. Strike out forward (moving from finger to elbow only) with your fingers in a whipping fashion, aiming toward the face.

11.Repeat with left hand.

12.Extend your right arm straight down, palm out. Place your left hand over the front of your right elbow and strike out forward (moving from finger to elbow only) with your fingers in a whipping fashion, aiming toward the groin.

13.Repeat with left hand.

14.Do a right inward, palm up eye slice (moving from right to left) followed by an outward, palm down eye slice (movingfrom left to right).

15.Repeat with left hand.

16.Do a right inward horizontal heel palm at face level followed by an in place (at face level where the heel palm struck)raking claw and draw your hand to your left shoulder. Follow with a right outward hand sword at neck level.

17.Repeat with left hand.

18.Do a right overhead/downward heel palm claw (striking with the heel of your palm and clawing down with your fingers) at face level as your left hand does a rear upward heel palm claw towards your back at groin level.

19.Repeat with left hand.

20.Do a right underhand heel palm claw (striking with the heel of your palm and clawing up with your fingers) at groin level as your left hand does a rear upward heel palm claw towards your back at groin level.

21.Repeat with left hand.

22.Do a right underhand claw to groin (don't move your left hand) then track both hands up to eye level and do double eye pokes with your thumbs.

23.Pull your hands back to your hips and do a right two finger eye hook.

24.Repeat with left hand.
