Who should use this form?

This application form is for those who hold Society-accredited qualifications orqualification(s) from outside the UKwhich make them eligible for Graduate membership.

Do I have to send in proof of my qualification(s)?Applicants should provide copies of their psychology qualifications. Transcripts (a list of subjects, and grades,you have undertaken) are required for ALL overseas qualifications.

Translations are required for any documents not in English

Typically the Society will not require original documents, however we do reserve the right to request originals ifconsidered necessary.

If your name differs from that on your certificates/transcripts, etc. please provide evidence such as a copy of yourmarriage/partnership certificate, deed poll certificate, etc.

Some Society-accredited degree courses have conditions which must be met for the qualification to confer eligibilityfor the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership(GBC). In these cases you will generally need to submit a copy ofyour academic transcript so that the Society can see what modules you have taken. If you are unsure whether therewere conditions on your course then you can check this on our website atwww.bps.org.uk/accreditedcourses

Do I need proposers for my application and what if I dont know any Society Members?All applications for Graduate Membership must have two proposers, typically this will be by two Graduate Members ofthe Society.

Overseas-qualified applicants who do not know any Graduate Members are requested to nominate two proposers,typically lecturers/professors from the university where you completed your qualification, by either:

Giving their proposers names, and contact details, and if possible asking them to sign the form.

Or

Asking their proposers to complete and sign the reference form attached at the end of this document, the completedreference forms should then be returned with your application.

How much do I need to pay?Applicants need to submit the first years subscription and processing fee with their application. Full details of all ofthe rates and fees are on page 4 of this document.

How long does the application process take?Applications proposed by two Graduate Members of the Society will go through within three weeks as long as theform is completed correctly and all of the necessary documentation is enclosed. If two Members of the Society do notpropose your application it may take a little longer, typically around six weeks.

Can I email the form to the Society?No. Applicants and (if applicable) proposers must sign the application form, and you must enclose proof ofqualifications, so you will need to print this form off and post it to the Societys Leicester office above.

Why should I also join a Division as a General member?The Society has ten professional Divisions of psychology. Those with an interest in one of these areas of psychologycan join that Division as a General member. Benefits include receipt of specialised journals, discounts on registrationfor Divisional events, opportunities to participate in branch meetings, and much more.

Subscription and Application Fees 2010

Due to the administrative costs involved, the Society will only process applications where the full paymenthas been made. This needs to be done by cheque, card or postal order. We cannot run Direct Debitpayments for applications. Applicants not eligible for membership will be given the opportunity to receive arefund of their subscription but the processing fees are non-refundable. The fees advertised are for 2010and are subject to change each year. As subscriptions run from January to December each year, anyoneelected in the last quarter of each year (i.e. from 1 October), while still being required to pay uponapplication,is not charged a fee for the current year but will be charged at the new rate for the followingyear.

GRADUATE MEMBERSHIPThose applying for Graduate Membership will need to pay the one off processing fee of 20 in addition tothe annual subscription fee. Only current Student members of the Society are exempt from this fee. Thesubscription rates are:

Standard Graduate Membership fee 129 (109 subscription plus the 20 processing fee). Applicants can pay a reduced subscription rate fee for the first three years since graduating from

the qualification which makes them eligible for Graduate Membership. The application fee will be75 (55 subscription plus the 20 processing fee).

Applicants who are postgraduate students in the UK with a level of income below that necessary topay income tax can pay a reduced subscription. The application fee will be 48 (28 subscription

plus the 20 processing fee).
