#Opening: This programme widens its horizons to include 28 international galleries which have

been open for less than seven years.

Alongside this section is As Tables Are Shelves, a small pop-up fair presented as an experiment to bring

printed word and image into the context of an art fair. A selected group of artist book publishers from

different countries are invited to participate for three days –Thrusday to Saturday– in this event as an

attempt to draw a dialogue and bring together these two more alternative parts of the fair.

ACTIVITIES

INTERNATIONAL COLLECTOR’S PROGRAMME ARCOmadrid 2015 offers an exclusive International Collectors' Programme. This programme includes

exclusive visits to institutions and private collections, and preferential access to the Fair. In this way,

ARCOmadrid ensures the presence of a large group of active collectors and purchasers, suggested by

participating galleries, who will visit the Fair, increasing the volume of its business.

13th EXPERT´S FORUM

FORUM ARCOmadrid 2015 offers a space for debate on contemporary creation and the art market. The Collector’s

Forum, developed in partnership with Fundación Banco Santander, is a meeting place for the

international artistic community. Thanks as well to the collaboration of #ArcoColombia and “Ámbito

Cultural” of El Corte Inglés, the Collector’s Forum is a perfect place where prestigious professionals can

share ideas and projects, besides interact with participating galleries, increasing their networks of

contacts. This wide-range programme of activities also includes Artist’s Talks, directed by Mª Inés

Rodríguez.

#ARCOmeetings

The Professional Meetings are consolidated as a meeting place for curators and art experts worldwide.

Reserved for professionals and by invitation only, these platforms for debate offer an opportunity to share

reflections, exchange experiences and outline new projects. The programme includes a Museum Work

Session co-organised by AC/E in collaboration of the Spanish Association of Contemporary Art

Directors (ADACE), as well as the 4th Meeting of European and Ibero-American Museums.

ORGANISED BY: IFEMA

Organised by IFEMA and due to be held from 25 February to 1 March

ARCOmadrid confirms the growing confidence of the

Spanish art market

Domestic and international companies and collectors express their interest and

commitment to acquiring works at the fair

IFEMA allocates 1.5 million of a total budget of 4.5 million to international

promotion and business development for the fair, increasing the number of invited

guests by 30%: 300 collectors from 33 countries - over half of which will be attending

the fair for the first time - and 285 professionals from 41 countries.

In total, 218 galleries from 29 countries will take part, of which 160 belong to the

General Programme; 10 to #ArcoColombia; 28 to #Opening; and 24 to #SoloProjects,

thereby consolidating ARCOmadrid as a benchmark for discovering new talent with

over 87 booths focusing on just one or two artists.

The growing participation by galleries from Latin America should be noted, which is

up 52% to a total of 47 galleries from 10 countries. In addition, the presence this year

of Colombia has provided a significant boost in this regard

According to the report on the Spanish art market in 2014, drafted by Clare

McAndrew for the Art and Patronage Foundation, ARCOmadrid generated an

impact for Madrid and the Spanish economy worth over 100 million in induced

revenue. The report states that ARCOmadrid accounts for 60% of all sales generated

at art fairs in Spain

Madrid, February 2015. From 25 February to 1 March, Madrid will be the focus of

attention for art collectors and professionals as the 34th International Contemporary

Art Fair, ARCOmadrid, takes place in the city. Organised by IFEMA, this latest

edition brings some major changes and a stronger purchase commitment from

companies and collections that confirms a growing interest in the Spanish art market.

In total, 218 galleries from 29 countries will take part, of which 160 belong to the

General Programme; 10 to #ArcoColombia; 28 to #Opening; and 24 to #SoloProjects. It

is worth highlighting two significant facts about this particular selection: the

incorporation of 29 new galleries in the General Programme; and the 87 booths

focusing on just one or two artists across the fair, confirming the event as an

increasingly renowned destination for discovering new creative talent.

Page 4: BOZZA TESTO INVITO - ifema.es · printed word and image into the context of an art fair. A selected group of artist book publishers from different countries are invited to participate

This is joined by the growing loyalty of participating galleries and the presence of

emerging countries as the main differentiating factors of this latest edition with respect

to previous years. The fair is also beginning to show signs of the art market's recovery,

evinced by the presence of galleries such as Bo Bjerggaard, Corkin Gallery, Jocelyn

Wolff, Continua, Lelong, Leon Tovar, Luisa Strina, Esther Schipper, GB Agency,

Lucía de la Puente, Luisa Sintra, Mai 36, Nicolai Wallner, Nils Staerk, Thomas

Schulte, Vermelho and Zak Branicka.

It is also worth highlighting the increased participation by overseas galleries this year,

which account for 71% of the total, and in particular the 52% growth in those from

Latin America, this year making up 30.5% of the international section. A total of 47

galleries from 10 Latin American countries will be attending the next edition, a figure

that consolidates the role played by ARCOmadrid as a gateway to the European and

Asian markets. On top of this there is the special participation of Colombia this year as

guest country, in collaboration with the Colombian Government, as well as the

#SoloProjects programme dedicated to researching Latin American artistic production.

Purchase Commitment

The positive expectations fostered by the confirmation of a global economic recovery

have been key to the interest in strengthening the purchase commitment at the fair

from some of the most significant companies and collections. Such commitments have

been made by Asociación 9915, Colombia's Banco de la República, CA2M, DKV

Seguros, the Mapfre Foundation, the Helga de Alvear Collection, the María Cristina

Masaveu Foundation, Iberdrola, Inelcom, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Pérez Art

Museum. These have been joined by others whose purchase support manifests itself

through awards, such as those organised by NH Hoteles, Ron Barceló Imperial, illy

caffè, Beep, the Region of Madrid; and Audemars Piguet, as well as various

museums and public institutions. Furthermore, Fundación ARCO and IFEMA will

once again acquire pieces at ARCO and continue their micro-patronage efforts though

such actions as the Fundación Platforma Lunch to raise funds to acquire works at the

fair.

International Collectors and Professionals

ARCOmadrid has a budget of 4.5 million euros, of which 1.5 million euros have been

allocated to an international promotion programme targeted at collectors, opinion

leaders and institutions in the main art markets. In this regard, the number of guests

has been increased by approximately 30% to 285 professionals from 41 countries,

including directors and patron collectors in a total of 19 delegations from American

and Canadian museums, as well as 300 collectors from 33 countries, over half of

whom will be attending the fair for the first time.

All this paints an encouraging picture of returning confidence, which we hope to see

reflected in the number of sales. In this regard, and according to the Report on the

Spanish Art Market in 2014 drafted by Clare McAndrew for the Art and Patronage

Foundation, the impact generated by ARCOmadrid on the Spanish art market in

2014 represented 60% of all sales generated by art fairs in Spain, bearing in mind that

such fairs generated 33% of all sales in the sector. The report also estimates the impact

generated by ARCOmadrid in terms of induced revenue for the city of Madrid and

the Spanish economy at over 100 million euros.

Evidence of this recovery can be seen in the emergence of new museums, such as the

Malaga Pompidou Centre and the University of Navarre Museum, which will be

represented at ARCOmadrid.

Galleries and Artists

ARCOmadrid maintains a commitment to the SOLO/DUO section, which presents

projects by individual artists or pairs in dialogue with one other, thereby strengthening

its position as a fair for discovering and researching new talent. From a total of 218

galleries from 29 countries selected by the Organising Committee and the curators of

the various programmes, 87 will be presenting just one or two artists at their booths.

Of the 160 galleries forming the General Programme, 31 projects follow this curatorial

line. They include: Leonor Antunes and Adriana Lara (Air de Paris), Elena Bajo and

Michal Budny (Annex 14), Fernando Bryce and Teresa Burga (Barbara Thumm),

Albrecht Schnider and Cristian Andersen (Bob Van Oursouw), Richard Mosse and

Michel François (Carlier Gebauer), Barbara Probst (Kuckei + Kuckei), Teresa

Margolles and Erika Verzutti (Peter Kilchmann), and Mariana Castillo Deball and

Jimmie Durham ( Wien/Lukatsch).

The commissioned sections will also include individual presentations and dialogues.

#ArcoColombia, with the participation of 10 galleries selected by Colombian curator

Juan A. Gaitán, Director of the Tamayo Museum (Mexico), will present 20 artists - two

per booth - to be discovered by the international visitors. These artists will include:

David Peñaat La Galería, Ícaro Zorbar (Casas Riegner), Jaime Tarazona

(Nueveochenta), and Ricardo León (Jenny Vilà).

Artists such as Anna Maria Maiolino (Raffaella Cortese), Armando Andrade Tudela

(Elba Benítez), Jaime Davidovich (Henrique Faria Fine Art), Sergio Zevallos (80m2

Livia Benavides), Roberta Lima (Charim), Pablo Accinelli (Luisa Strina), and Lenora

de Barros (Millan) will form part of the #SoloProjects project curated by

Irene Hofmann, USA; Lucía Sanromán, Mexico; Miguel A. López, Peru; Kiki

Mazzucchelli, Brazil; and Emiliano Valdés, Guatemala, and which will bring together

works from 24 galleries. This section, organised in collaboration with the Spanish

Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), will focus on three main

topics: The Legacy of the Latin American Avant Garde; Rethinking Formalism: Abstraction

and Vernacular Sources, and Gender Performativity and Research Practices in Latin America.

Alongside these, a number of projects will be shown at #Opening, a programme that

comprises 28 galleries selected by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas (Portugal/United

Kingdom) and Chris Sharp (Mexico) with projects by Alexander Gutke

(Belenius/Nordenhake), Belén Rodríguez González (Josh Lilley), Laura Lamiel

(Marcelle Alix), Martin Soto Climent (Clifton Benevento), Matias Duville (Barro),

Sofia Hulten (Daniel Marzona), and Óscar Murillo (Carlos/Ishikawa).

Furthermore, ARCOmadrid will again play host to the Artists’ Talks series of round

table discussions that will explore the relationship between the creation and

presentation processes of works at the fair. Directed by María Inés Rodríguez, director

of CAPC in Bordeaux, they will become a space for reflection on works present at

ARCOmadrid through different cross-cutting dialogues with such artists as Carolina

Caycedo, Esther Ferrer, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa; Armando Andrade Tudela,

Mariana Castillo Deball and Mateo López.

Professional Meetings

The presence at ARCOmadrid of prominent art world professionals allows an intense

schedule of meetings and debates to be established, and offers an extraordinary

opportunity for knowledge to be shared among the galleries and professionals invited

to the fair - 285 from 41 countries this year - including curators, museum directors,

journalists, critics and other art professionals.

The Professional Meetings will include the participation of a team of directors who

will again gather carefully selected experts: Brooke Davis Anderson, executive

another significant opportunity to enhance the Latin American aspects of the fair. This

will be joined by the Museums Work Session, jointly organised by AC/E in

collaboration with ADACE, to gather approximately 50 museum directors and

representatives in Madrid.

Furthermore, a total of 19 delegations from American and Canadian museums have
