The act that it goes a bit overthe top (including one level where you snowboard down the mountain in a wingsuit, and anotherwhere you try to outrun an avalanche) works to its advantage. This is a un game, and denitelyworth giving a try when you have the chance.

emember last issue when I conessed the terrible secret that Im notactually a music critic, or any kind o critic at all? Well, Im throwing that allout the window and Im changing my tune. This week Im going to critiquethe sh*t out o something, and then youre going to have that to think

about.But this weeks article isnt exactly about local music. In a way, however, it is

EXACTLY about local music. Im talking about a video series covering local musiccalled Be Nice to Your Kids.

THESIS STATEMENT:Check out the Be Nice to Your Kids live local music video perormance series.

WHO:The way I understand it, Be Nice To Your Kids is a specic part o a series

entitled Change Yr Lie. The important part o all this is that it comes romthe Delo Creative media team out o OKC, best known or their work with TheFlaming Lips and most recently their work shooting and directing some new Dr.Dog videos. Delo Creative has done a lot o great work with local bands all across

Oklahoma like Broncho (Norman/Tulsa), Gentle Ghost (Norman) and Stardeath &White Dwars (OKC/Norman).

WHAT:To recap, Be Nice To Your Kids is a guerilla-style video series rom Delo Creative

shooting local bands playing raw and live in unique, typically run-down locationsthroughout the state.

WHEN:Since December 2011, and still going.

WHERE:Each band shoots in a dierent location, and the locations are the best part

o the series. Samantha Crain (Shawnee) shoots hervideo at Magic Marks amous warehouse in Tulsa,which or years has been hosting the best rock-and-roll parties in the state. The Boom Bang (Norman)shoots in an abandoned bathroom splattered withgrati beneath the Womb Gallery in OKC. GentleGhost (Norman) shoots in an undisclosed warehousein OKC. Deerpeople (Stillwater) shoots in some crazygrati-covered run down party house in Stillwater.CHUD (OKC) shoots at some place called the ParkDown the Street House in OKC, which appears to besome kind o party house.

What ties each location to the next is what I perceive

as the overarching theme o Be Nice To Your Kids.An abandoned bathroom beneath a gallery, anundisclosed and empty warehouse, a rundown partyhouse, a magicians dusty vaults It is a live eedrom the cracks in the oorboards o Oklahoma societyin which this music and media scene seems to thriveand eed o o. The statement and theme o the seriesis a earless showcase o talent taking place in someo Oklahomas most desolate but meaningul places.It is art continuing on and asserting itsel in the leastlikely o places.

WHY:Why the title Be Nice To Your Kids? Is it a threat? Be nice to your kids

or else theyre likely to turn out like us. Is it a plea or mercy? Be nice to your

kids because were doing our best in the world you let us with. I think itssomething o both, something more like this: Be nice to your kids because

Movie credits these days have become a whole

dierent animal rom what they once were.

Compare the ve opening title slides o old

black and white movies to the lengthy closing

credits o today.

At rst, lms had a ew opening credits that listed the

major cast and crew members, and a very rare ew would

give some additional inormation at the end. Today, some

lms credits run more than 30 minutes long. Its commonor credits to be animated or to eature outtakes or sketch-

es, and everyone who touched the lm has their name in

there. Production caterer? You bet. On-set security? Obvi-

ously. In the nal LordotheRings movie, even some an

club members got their names in the credits.

Some o the moviegoers who stick around or the credits are

bound to be bafed, though. The dedication to stay doesnt

automatically mean a ull understanding o whats on the

screen in ront o them. Heres a quick guide to some o the

roles in the credits that make moviegoers say, Huh?

Grip and Key Grip

The grip department is responsible or setting up support rigsor the camera and lighting. Those dramatic crane shots that

you see? These guys set up the crane. The big, shadow-casting

hard light? They plugged it in. The key grip is the head o the

grip team.

Gaer

The gaer is in charge o the lighting or a scene. Though the

director o photography oten (not always) designs the light-

ing, the gaer is the head electrician and is in charge o making

sure that it happens. They are sometimes known as lighting

technicians.

Best Boy

The best boy is essentially an assistant. Usually, the best boy

(who is not always a boy) is either a best boy electric, who

assists the gaer, or the best boy grip whoas you might

imagineassists the key grip.

Boom Operator

A boom is the long pole that holds a microphone during the

lming o a scene. The mic has to be held into the scene in order

or the audio to be consistent. A boom operator is the person on

the other end o the pole who holds the mic steady.

Foley Artist

The clip-clop o horses hooves and kaboom o explosions are

the doing o the oley artist. He or she is the creator o sound e-

ects that are added in post-production. The term is also widely

used in radio.

Armourer

The armourer is responsible or any and all weapons that you

nd on the set. (Well, at least props that are intended to be

there.) This includes rearms and explosives.

Im sure your spring break was a blast and I would totally love to hear about it,but sorry, old news. You probably noticed you can show those legs o again soyeah, its spring drinking season. In act, you should probably just get a drink orthis. Itll be a lot easier on both o us, I assure you.

I had my irst Brandy Alexander the other day, which honestly, is proba-bly a winter drink, but who cares, it got me in an adventurous drink-ing spirit. Actually, there are several seasonal beverages that Inormally steer clear o (in season or no) that Ive been jammingon the last ew weeks. Admittedly, some are less manly (Skittlesinused vodka. Dont lie, you love it.) than others (Yeah ... it takesa lot o whiskey to balance that one out. Trust me.), but theyve all

been delicious while draining only a raction o my productivity.True story.

Lets start with some beer. As o late, Ive been getting back tothe beverage that originally brought me to the party. Beer. Butnot Keystone Light. Ive been playing catch-up on the brewslately but there are a ew that have proven to be ine littletreats on a pleasant aternoon.

For ans o the lighter-bodied are, the Nomad Pilsner byGreat Divide ($11) should be a welcome drinking addition. Itsa cleaner inishing pilsner than some o its more traditionalEuropean counterparts but thats what I kind o like aboutit. While theyve rereshed me on a hot day on one or twooccasions, the inish on European pilsners has never re-ally been my jam. By patriotically having an Americanjob, I ve g race ully side stepp ed t his palate probl em.

I youre into darker or richer beers, a recent revisitof the Rogue Chocolate Stout ($6.49) proved to be aworthwhile endeavor. While its still a relatively heavybeer, the Rogue doesnt eel quite as weighty as someo its stout counterparts. The chocolate lavor is a bitmore ocused through the palate compared to someo the other chocolate stouts that are readily availablein Oklahoma. The rather dry inish leaves the eelingthat you just ate a piece o chocolate and generallymakes you go back or another drink. Its a wonder-ully balanced beer.

Theres never a shortage o new and exciting IPAsaround here, but one that has lown a bit under theradar is the Happy Camper IPA by Sante Fe ($8). Its

one o the growing number o quality canned beersthat have gradually slipped into the marketplaceover the past year. Its got a loral, aromatic qualitythat doesnt always make it into IPAs that hit the 405which is a nice bonus. Hop heads will be satisied andthe light citrus lavors provide a good balance to theaorementioned hoppiness. As you could imagine, itdrinks better when poured into a glass, but it holdsup quite well when enjoyed out o the can as well.Its arguably the best canned IPA in the state (depend-ing on your eelings about Calderas oering and theavailability o Torpedo in a can) but thats a battle or

another time. Time to shit gears anyway.While I have nothing against white wine, I dont usually drink that much o it.

For the last month however, Ive been on a heck o a kick. It must be the lovelyspring weather. O course, you can dominate the stu too.

On the pinot grigio front, Ive thrown down a bottle or two of Big Fire ($18.49).Their pinot noir has long been a solid choice or the money but its white

counterpart might be more o a steal. Its a wildly citrusy job that, quiterankly, is dangerously easy to drink. There are some other comparable pi-not grigios that might oer a bit more depth, but thats not what this one is

really about. This is an unpretentious porch pounder. I you want somethingrereshing with a lot o ruit this is a good call.

I youre more inclined to have a sauvignon blanc, the current vintage othe Leese Fitch ($11) is a ine choice. It has crisp acidity but sports thehe al t hy minerality that usually sets American sauvignon

blancs apart rom their New Zealand contempo-raries. The nose is a little grassy but the citrus andloral notes on the palate make it a delightul

Sunday Funday quaer.

Volunteers in more than 70 communities throughout the state of Oklahoma are organizingRelay For Lie events to salute cancer survivors and caregivers, and to remember loved

ones who have lost their ght against cancer. Relay For Lie is the signature undraiseror the American Cancer Society. The event provides community awareness and unds

to urther the American Cancer Societys mission o eliminating cancer by helping people staywell, helping people get well, by nding cures, and by ghting back. At Relay, teams o at leasteight people gather around a track and participate in activities to honor and remember thosetouched by cancer. Here in Norman we want to raise awareness about Relay For Lie to recruitteams and raise much-needed unds. Relay brings together riends, amilies, businesses,hospitals, schools, aith-based groups; people rom all walks o lie all aimed at urtheringthe American Cancer Societys eorts to create a world with more birthdays.

Local volunteers are a huge part o a nationwide eort to save lives rom cancer, but

additional people are needed or the progress to continue. This years event will be held at

the Norman High School track on May 18-19. Just as the eects of a challenging economyare elt by amilies in every community, cancer too has a ar-reaching impact. The dollars

donated and volunteer hours devoted to the American Cancer Society a part o Norman

or many years are critically important.

The Relay For Lie event provides unding needed to do cutting-edge research; educate

students, health care proessionals and the public on the prevention and early detection

o cancer; advocate or public policies that urther the ght against cancer; and provideservices or patients and amilies in our community. Norman was the rst city in the state

to have a resource room inside a local hospital. Norman Regional Hospital houses a resource

room or patients who may need a wig, prosthesis or any other ACS resources. Relay For

Lie is contributing to programs like Road to Recovery, a van program that provides rides

to treatment; Look Good, Feel Better, a program or women who are battling the eects o

chemotherapy; and the 24-hour hotline that is available to anyone (1-800-227-2345).Now is the time or individuals, amilies, community groups, corporations and small

businesses to commit to Relay For Lie team participation. Join us at this event to celebratethose who have battled cancer, remember those lost, ght back against this disease and help

the American Cancer Society realize its vision o a world with less cancer and more birthdays. We

abilities, thank you). The point here is the place is rereshing. In my personal

opinion, its just what Norman needs.I say its what Norman needs, but honestly the place is better than any ishjoint Ive tried in Okla homa City or Norma n ( espec ially or the price) . Locate d inthe Brookhaven Village Shopping Center, you cant miss the red neon lights thatoutline the top o the building. I you do happen to overlook that, maybe thegiant ish skeleton on the logo on the buildings signage will get your attention.Its awesome. Totally unique, like everything else they ve done.

Upon walking into The Big Tuna, the casual atmosphere and dcor eases anytension you had prior to stepping into the place. Its like walking into a JimmyBuett concert ... or Kenny Chesney maybe? Teal blue walls are artully accentedwith other island colors, and a giant ish (I shall name you ... Parsley) sits atop aterra cotta roo that extends rom part o the second story above the bar area.Despite the amount o time I couldve spent admiring the welcoming dcor - youhave to move sometime. I grabbed a menu hanging rom the wall and movedtoward the ordering counter.

A large perk o my job is that when I review restaurants, Im encouraged to try an

assortment o menu items. In this case I (and my plus one) ordered:Shrimp brochettes - jumbo shrimp stued with baked cream cheese andjalap enos, wrapp ed in bacon

Baked salmon- lightly seasoned with salt, olive oil and lemonFish tacos - golden catish strips with coleslaw, tomatoes and green onionsAsian salmon- salmon topped with a soy hoisin glazeSides o: black beans, hush puppies, gumbo, squash Rockeeller, onion rings and

green chile rice(Dont judge ...)I still want to try a ew other menu items like the ish and chips, or the hal-shell

Chesapeake Bay oysters (also heard theyll be oering oyster shooters soon withvodka or tequila, yesssss .. .). However I couldnt have been more satisied with theitems I ordered. The menu here is awesome. Its so unique. When talking to the

awesomely riendly manager, Michael, he inormed us t hat the menu was createdby a mysterious menu genius named Don that works or them. Thank you, Don, othe insanely well-crated and blended menu o deliciousness.

The gumbo tastes very much like my grandmas (a New Orleans born and brednative), and the hush puppies also rivaled Nannas (my grandmother) amily

recipe. I she knew someone else had her hush puppy baking ability shed becrushed. Im going to have to keep this hush-hush. The black beans, onion ringssquash Rockeeller ... they were all delicious and ull o lavor. But what madethem taste even better was the main dish they came with.

By ar, I think the ish tacos are the best Ive ever tasted. Im not even a catishkind o person. But honestly I didnt even know it was catish until I looked it upten minutes ago. Theyre resh, illing and unbelievably legitimate. The salmonwas baked to perection, no lie. It was perectly pink and resh. It was so tenderthat I couldve eaten it with a spoon. Same goes or the Asian salmon. The Asiansalmon was so good, my boyriend and I ought about who got to take it homeor letovers. As or the shrimp brochettes, we ate them in about a split second. dream about the day when I get to go back and eat more o them while watchinga Thunder game on the upper lot while drinking an Oklahoma Heat, no less.

Yes. To wash down the mammo th meal, I ordered their signature Oklahoma Heata unique combo o Azul Reposado, Cointreau, sweet and sour and resh jalapeo.The drink is awesome. Its rereshing and although theres jalapeo in it, its

deinitely not what I would call spicy. Its delicious. I would like to explain moreabout it, but its completely unlike anything Ive ever tasted - in an awesomewow-this-drink-makes-me-eel-alive kind o way. The bar also has many otherdelicious-looking signature drinks, along with the usual drinks o choice. To makethings even sweeter the place stays open until 2 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays andSaturdays (and with a late night menu too, chah-ching).

With a patio, flat screen TVs (like eight of them), upstairs seating and theisuper, super riendly sta,1 I can easily see mysel becoming a regular here. Casuaatmosphere, cool drinks, reasonable prices and great ood? Uhhh, where do I sign?

Springtime in Oklahoma brings thunderstorms, lawn work, rising temperatures and a

glimpse ahead to the next Sooner ootball season. Spring starts things anew, includ-

ing the buzz and anticipation or Sooner ootball. Ater a not-so-satisactory season

ater all the hype and national attention given to the Sooners last year, including a

pre-season ranking o number one and ending in a Insight Bowl victory over an outclassed

Iowa team Sooner ans, players and coaches are ready to start over.

Gone are Sooner an avorites Ryan Broyles and Travis Lewis. The Sooners do, however, have

twenty-three oensive letterman returning, while on the deensive side o the ball the Soon-

ers will return twenty-ve letterman.Believe you me this team is still loaded

with a bumper crop o ootball talent

that i they pull it together

and play up the their potential have

a shot to play or the teams eighth

national championship.

The Sooner oense is usually one

o the best in the country with their

up-tempo almost point-a-minute

style. That ran into a snag midway

through last year when college

ootballs all-time leading receiver Ryan

Broyles went down during the Texas

A&M game. Landry Jones at quarterback

has a chance to own all o Oklahomas

records at the position, but will need better

perormances rom Kenny Stills, Jaz Reynolds,

Trey Franks and Kameel Jackson at the wide

receiver position.

Joining this talented group is newcomer Trey

Metoyer. Trey Metoyer comes in this spring with the

hype and talent that a number one ranked wide receiver

should. Ater playing at Whitehouse High S chool in Texas,

Metoyer had to go to Hargrave Academy. Now that Metoyer is on

campus and is going through spring practice the coaches are seeing

exactly why they were happy to land the 62 sure-handed wide receiver.

Metoyer brings size and speed to help stretch the eld and could be a star rom day

one in a Sooner uniorm.

The Sooner running game, which is being led during the spring by Roy Finch, needs to nda grove to help the oense keep deenses guessing and on their heels. Dominique Whaley

was leading the team in rushing last year until he broke his ankle in the game up at Kansas.

Whaley will not par ticipate in spring practices, but knowing the ght in this guy as soon as

he can put on the pads he will be out there running over deenders and scoring touch downs.

Finch is a tough match up or a lot o teams with the combination o speed and elusiveness,

with his low center o gravity and strength; Finch is hard to bring down. It will be interesting

to see red shirt reshman Danzel Williams and junior Brennan Clay as they develop with more

time in the program.

At quarterback many Sooner ans want to know about the Belldozer package and will

they see more of it or more of Blake Bell, M.V.P of the Insight Bowl. Landry J ones is yourquarterback and a good one at that. He will have a good veteran line in ront o him to keep

his jersey clean and let Landry have the time to nd his array o weapons, including new

tight ends Taylor McNamara and Brannon Green.

The Sooner deense is a group losing Frank Alexander, Ronnell Lewis and Travis Lewis. The

Sooner D however, welcomes back Mike Stoops to the amily and no question Coach Stoops

will bring his re and intensity back in hopes to restore the Sooner deense to the top o the

national charts once again.

I recently had the chance to talk to the deensive ends coach Bobby Jack Wright and the

coach was raving about the ends David King and junior college transer Chaz Nelson. Chuka

Ndulue has had a great winter and look to replace Alexander and Lewis. At the tackle spot itstime or Jamarkus McFarland needs to lead this group and put pressure up the middle.

Linebacker is a big spot at the University o Oklahoma and Tom Wort will need to lead

this group but will be sitting out this spring, so Jaydan Bird, Joseph Ibiloye and

Corey Nelson will get the brunt o the work.

Aaron Colvin, Tony Jeerson and Javon Harris will patrol the

deensive backeld. It will be interesting to watch this group

through spring and see their development, especially with

juco transer Kass Everett being in the mix. Gabe Lynn

and Joe Powell will get some much-needed work

as well.

Spring practice will wrap up with the annual

Red-White game on April 14th. The spring

game is greatly attended and is played in

similar ashion to a real game and will

give the Sooner ans the only look at

the team until the beginning o next

ootball season. So with owers in

bloom and the weather getting

better, spring is in the air and so is

the pigskin. There are a ew Soon-

ers not mentioned in this story

because they are not on campus

yet but could play a big role next

year, like Sterling Shepard rom
