Why did the Tsunami happen?
Sudden shifting of continental plates causes earthquakes, forcing sea water above, to rise
As they collide the Australian plate is pushed up and over the Pacific plate. This causes buckling of the Earth’s crust, building mountains and triggering earthquakes
As waves near land, they slow to a 45km/hr but are squeezed upwards, increasing in height

Waves move rapidly in deep ocean, reaching speeds of 800km/hr

Waves head inland, destroying all that is in path
