    TOY AND FOOD BANK

Amanda Marsh at Cotman Housing, Bowthorpe Hall, is

organising a collection and distribution of food to local

foodbanks. Foodbanks help people in need with emergency food boxes. In

Norwich alone over 32% of children are affected by income deprivation, and

numbers using the Foodbanks have more than tripled in the last 12 months

    -loved) to the list

being collected. I have also been in touch with Baseline, a local charity who are

arranging for hampers to be delivered to those in need, along with Christmas

presents for children. They link in with support organisations like 4Women, Lee-

way and Stonham. They will happily accept donations of toys, and will also be

looking for volunteers to help with preparing the hampers, wrapping presents

and distribution of hampers and presents

THANKS FOR DOING A GOOD JOB

When I received the November issue of the

Bowthorpe News I noticed an advert for a

    company called 50 Shades Cleaner.

My house is now approx 25 years old and I was

looking for someone to give the gutters/fascias and soffits thoroughly cleaned.

The quote was within my budget so I arranged

for them to carry out the work which they did

    last Wednesday.

It is not very often I put pen to paper but they

carried out the work in a very professional

manner and to a very high standard.

"A simple meal with love is better than a feast where there is hatred" (Proverbs 15:17).

This proverb invites us to imagine two houses in different parts of

the city. In one house there is a sumptuous table laden with a

prime roast joint, a wide variety of vegetables, plus all the

trimmings. No expense has been spared on drinks either. This is the main course, but the diners have already consumed their

appetisers, soups and entrees, and there will be rich desserts, nuts,

fruit and coffee to follow. And then there will be piles of leftovers.

In the other house is another table not much on it, only garden

vegetables, plain bread and water. There won't be any leftovers from this meal. But this is more than a house: this is a home. Here there

is love, laughter, acceptance and genuine community qualities

that are painfully absent from the other house. The spirit in which a meal is shared is far more important than the kind of food

    that is eaten.

May the peace of Christ be with you at

    your Christmas dinner table.

Until next year, Revd Mark Elvin
