IBA 2016ICM

WelcomeOn behalf of the organizing committee, we welcome you to join IBAICM in 2016.

IBAICM 2016 will be hosted by the Institute of Business Administration’s Department of Marketing and will be held on 19-20 December at the University of Malaya Campus, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

About IBASince 1995, IBA has been termed the premier business school of Pakistan. Sixty years down the line, the institute remains dedicated to the task of imparting valuable education and work ethics to its students.

The institute has gone through major changes over these six decades in order to embrace a wider set of disciplines in its curricula. These changes have been made in order to respond to the requirements of the society, market and economy. They are also an outcome of associations forged with credible institutions, local and international and various stakeholders, prominent being the IBA Alumni. Infrastructural and technological advancements have been accomplished despite their expected share of challenges. The cumulative impact of these developments is that the IBA today provides a conducive environment to its students continuously enriching their academic pursuits with networking, entrepreneurial, cultural and experiential learning. The blend of these sure-footed steps has enabled a more wholesome environment of enlightenment.

IBA also encourages its students and faculty to develop a global perspective. In this connection, IBA has received accreditation from the South Asia Quality Assurance Systems (SAQS) and gained membership of various international and regional professional bodies, associations and networks. IBA has received accreditation from the National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC), an HEC body. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), has assigned a Mentor to IBA pursuing the process of accreditation.

About IBAICM The first and second IBAICM was held in Karachi on May 2012 & 2014 respectively with the theme of "Contemporary Marketing Trends" and "The Changing Paradigms". Both were two-day conferences where researchers, practitioners, academics and experts from 16 different countries took part and graced the Conference with their knowledge. These conferences explored the progressions happening in different aspects of marketing and opened doors that present themselves for research and practice.

In keeping with this objective, this year’s conference aims to offer a platform for disseminating knowledge among stakeholders and facilitating the identification of best practices, in addition to providing lasting networking and collaborative research opportunities.

About IBAICM Corporate Meet - up The IBAICM Corporate Meet – up is a great opportunity for students and corporations to share ideas, get feedback and be inspired by guest speakers, discussants and fellow corporations. The short and intense meet-up is a pre-conference event to help students and faculty to contribute in IBAICM.

Conference theme: “Marketing to the Bottom of Pyramid in Emerging Markets”While there are multiple scholars pointing towards the bounties of the ‘low hanging fruit’ in the form of BOP segments, there are others that have criticized the practice. For instance, Karnani (2007) has rejected the idea of inclusive capitalism proposed by C.K. Prahalad, where selling to the poor can be profitable for the firm on one hand and can tackle issues of poverty on the other. According to Karnani (2007), poverty can be alleviated only when people at the BOP are made producers rather than consumers.

Acknowledging the importance of BOP segments and the resultant opportunities as well as challenges, IBA Karachi is holding an international conference inviting research from academics across the globe. In addition to providing a platform for networking and an opportunity for national/international collaborative research, the conference will be an avenue for promoting research, disseminating knowledge among academics, and facilitating the identification of best practices for practitioners. The conference is being hosted by the University of Malaya and is set out to offer its participants an overall fruitful and engaging experience.
