BOT2201CP LAB FOR PLANT ANATOMY & CELL BIOLOGY
(Lab)
Entry Behaviour Test
Answer the following:
1.Dicotyledon:The dicotyledons, also known as dicots, was a grouping formerly used for thefloweringplants whoseseed typically has two embryonic leaves orcotyledons
2.Hydrophytes:a plant that grows in water or very moist ground; an aquatic plant.
3Monocotyledon:Monocotyledonsalso known as monocots, are one of two major groupsofflowering plants (or angiosperms) that are traditionally recognized, the other
beingdicotyledons, or dicots. Monocotseedlings typically have onecotyledon (seed-leaf), in
contrast to the two cotyledons typical of dicots.
4. Cystolith: (Gr. "cavity" and "stone") is abotanicalterm for theinorganicconcretions, usually
ofcalcium carbonate, formed in acellulosematrix in specialcellscalled lithocysts, generally in
theleafofplantsof certain families, e.g.Ficus elastica, the Indian rubber plant of the
familyMoraceae.Plants in the familyUrticaceae, also known asStinging Nettles, also form leaf
cystoliths, but only during their later flowering and seed setting stages.Cannabisand other plants
in the familyCannabaceaealso produce leaf and flower cystoliths.
5.Mitosis:Itis the process by which a cell duplicates into two daughter cells.
