BOSTON COLLEGE vs. NEW HAMPSHIREThe Wildcats return to The Heights on Friday night between the Eagles’ Beanpot quest to close out the Hockey East season series on Friday as BC honors its legendary coach, Jerry York. Boston College and New Hampshire met in Durham, N.H. on Nov. 21, 2015 as BC skated to a 6-3 win and match its best start in program history under York’s direction (10-1-0). Teddy Doherty lit the lamp twice while junior defenseman Steve Santini notched his first three-point performance by doling out a playmaker at the Whittemore Center. Matthew Gaudreau also scored that night to extend his point streak to a career best six games. The Friday night bout marks the 147th contest between the two Hockey East staples and the overall series is a closely contested on as BC owns the narrow 70-63-14 mark over UNH. As of late, the Eagles have owned the Wildcats, having not lost in the last six meetings (4-0-2) and are 11-1-1 in the last 13 tilts. Since Conte Forum was erected, Boston College possesses a 15-11-6 mark over New Hampshire. BC and UNH have some binding ties as well. Not only are York and UNH head coach Dick Umile two of the most celebrated coaches in the sport, they have combined for 1,571 victories and over 70 years of combined coaching experience. York is in his 44th season overall while celebrates his 26th season in Durham. Additionally, BC assistant coach Mike Ayers was New Hampshire's goaltender from 2000-04. Ayers was voted second-team All-American in 2003.

WILDCAT WATCHNew Hampshire skates onto Kelley Rink with a 9-13-4 mark and a 3-7-4 total in Hockey East play, tied for ninth with Maine in the league standings. After the BC contest on Nov. 21, New Hampshire has gone 6-9-1 heading into Friday’s bout. The Wildcats went on a six-game unbeaten string (5-0-1) from Nov. 28 to Dec. 30 but followed that with a six-game losing streak from Jan. 2-29. UNH got off the snide with a 3-1 win at Providence to stop the bleeding. The Wildcats are anchored by the efforts of sophomore forward Andrew Poturalski, who is currently third in the nation in scoring, averaging 1.58 points per game with 19 goals and 22 assists (41 points). They boast another top-10 national scorer in junior forward Tyler Kelleher who is ninth overall, turning in 1.42 points per game with seven goals and 30 assists (37 points). Kelleher’s 1.15 helpers per game is the second-best mark in the country, only two-hundredths behind Michigan’s JT Comphter (1.17 apg). Senior forward Dan Correale has given the Wildcat power play a spark, scoring eight power play goals this year (tied for second in the NCAA) as the UNH’s extra-man unit is the sixth best in college hockey, converting at a clip of 25.7 percent. The entire offense ranks 12th, nationally, scoring 3.31 goals per game, but the defense has struggled, surrendering 3.42 goals per outing which is 49th overall and 11th in Hockey East. As Dick Umile’s clubs often are, the Wildcats are one of the least penalized teams in the nation, picking up only 7.8 penalty minutes per game. The penalty kill ranks 46th overall, keeping opponents off the board at a rate of 79.5 percent.

HISTORIC HALF DOZENThatcher Demko matched history after posting six shutouts in seven starts (Oct. 16 - Nov. 8, 2015), stringing together a pair of three-game shutout streaks. Demko’s historic run tied Blaine Lacher of Lake Superior State for posting six shutouts in seven games, marking only the second time in the history of college hockey something of that magnitude has been achieved. Below are the runs posted by each goaltender:

SHUSH.Demko’s first shutout streak started in the third period at Rensselaer on Oct. 11, 2015, where he played shutout hockey for 206 minutes and two seconds (206:02), denoting the 20th-longest stretch of zero goals allowed in the history of the game. Demko’s second run started in the third period of the Denver contest on Oct. 30 and spanned to the second period against Michigan State, surpassing his previous total and posting another 208 minutes and 36 seconds (208:36) of scorelss hockey. That mark is the 17th-best stretch in the history of the game. Demko’s scoreless string of 208:36 is third longest in school history behind Scott Clemmensen (254:23 – Jan. 9-24, 1998) and Cory Schneider (242:19 – Jan. 13-27, 2006).

STANDING TALL AMONGST THE BESTDemko is currently fifth in the nation in goals against average (1.65) and third in save percentage (.938) on the year and ranked first in overall shutouts with seven. For a career, the 6-foot-4 backstopper is 52-22-9 (.681) with a 2.05 goals against average and a .927 save percentage (2,168 saves on 2,339 shots). If Demko’s 2.05 GAA held, it would be BC's second-best career mark all time. His eight shutouts matches the single-season mark set by Cory Schneider during the 2005-06 season. Demko possesses 11 career shutouts is good for fourth-best all-time. He is one blanking shy of matching John Muse’s third-place mark of 12 career shutouts (2007-11). Schneider holds the record with 15 (2004-07) while Scott Clemmensen is second with 13 (1997-2001).

BEANPOT TROTBoston College will be playing in its 35th Beanpot championship game on Feb. 8, marking the third Battle of Comm Ave. this season when it takes on Boston University in the finals for the 22nd time in tournament history (BU, 12-9). This will be BC's ninth appearance in the championship game in the last 11 years. BC will be seeking its 20th Beanpot championship on Monday and its seventh in the last 10 years. If the Eagles were to win, it would mark Coach York's ninth Beanpot title, the most of any coach in school history.

THE LEGEND CONTINUES...Boston College coach Jerry York has reached the 1,000-win mark for his career in his 1,703rd game as a head coach. In all, York's record is 1,002-595-109 (.619) in 44 seasons at the head coach level and 535-260-75 (.658) in his 22nd season at the helm of Boston College. At the collegiate level, York is the 55th head coach to reach 1,000-career victories and the first to do so in college hockey. York remains the winningest coach in the history of the game. In his 1,000-career victories, Jerry York has defeated 69 different programs spread out through his tenures at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College. The all time total goal count in Coach York's 1,000 victories is 5,421 goals for and 2,395 goals against.

JAMMIN' IN JANUARYFollowing a 1-3-1 mark in December, Boston College responded with an undefeated 4-0-3 win-loss total in January. Under Coach York, it marks the third time the Eagles have flown undefeated in that month. BC went 7-0-1 in January for the 2013-14 season and 9-0-1 during the 2004-05 season.

DAM-KOThatcher Demko contines to rewrite the record books at Boston College as the Eagle netminder tied the school record for shutouts in a season with eight after a 4-0 win at Notre Dame on Jan. 29. The San Diego native notched the record in just 25 games, tying Cory Schneider's record set in during the 2005-06 season. It took Schneider 37 games to capture his eight shuout. Demko's 10th shutout came in his 50th-career game. Demko is now four career shutouts (11) behind Schneider's career record of 15. Demko's eight blankings are best in college hockey this season.

GREASED LIGHTNINGAustin Cangelosi scored 12 seconds into the home opener against Wisconsin, marking the fastest goal scored by an Eagle since Matt Price tallied 11 seconds into the game against Northeastern on March 7, 2008. The Estero, Fla., native followed that with a goal 16 seconds into the game on Jan. 29 at Notre Dame.

FAST FITZCasey Fitzgerald scored his third goal of the season 1:35 into the Beanpot semifinal on a feed from brother, Ryan to set the early tone. It was the fastest goal to start a Beanpot game since Bryan Ewing scored 1:23 into the game on Feb. 6, 2006.

McCAUTIONDefenseman Ian McCoshen broke through offensively and scored his first-career four-point performance on Jan. 15 against BU. It also stands as BC's fifth four-point showing this season. McCoshen pieced together his first-career five-game point streak from Jan. 8-22 and has scored in eight of his last 11 games, averaging over a point per game.

MILESTONE MARKSSeveral career game milestones Jan. 22 at UMass as Austin Cangelosi and Ryan Fitzgerald played in their 100th-career games tonight. Adam Gilmour dressed in his 100th game at BU. Teddy Doherty took part in his 125th game on Jan. 16 at BU while Travis Jeke donned the maroon and gold for the 50th time at Agganis Arena on Jan. 16. Scott Savage will play in his 100th-career game against New Hampshire on Feb. 5.

KIM KANFirst-year defenseman Michael Kim, a late addition to the team on Dec. 28, earned his first-career assist on Jan. 22 in Amherst in his sixth-career game.

SHORT-HANDED LAY-UPAustin Cangelosi converted on a penalty shot against BU on Jan. 15, marking the Eagles' first penalty shot goal since Chris Kreider tallied one against Notre Dame on Nov. 18, 2011. It should be noted, Cangelosi's penalty shot occurred when the Eagles were short-handed.

HATS OFFFreshman Colin White, fresh off his trip to Finland as a member of Team USA's bronze-medal winning team at the World Junior Championship, responded with Boston College's first hat trick of the season on Jan. 8 vs. PC and added an assist for his second-career four-point performance. For his performance, White was awarded his third Hockey East Rookie of the Week honor. White's hat trick marks BC's first since Ryan Fitzgerald scored all three goals in a 3-2 win at home over Connecticut on Jan. 24, 2015.

WATCH OUT FOR WHITEColin White, who has registered 11 multi-point performances this season, is currently the eighth most prolific scorer in college hockey and the second-highest scoring freshman with an average of 1.43 point per game. The Hanover, Mass. native leads the Eagles with 35 points, notching 16 goals and 19 assists along the way. White tallied his second game-winning goal in power play fashion against Harvard in the Beanpot on Feb. 1.

FITZ IN A FLASHRyan Fitzgerald is ranked sixth in the nation in shot attempts per game, triggering at a rate of 4.48 shots on net. The North Andover, Mass. native was the first Eagle to 10 goals and second on the team with 31 points (14-17-31) this seaosn. Fitzgerald is ranked 18th overall in scoring with 1.24 points per game. He recorded his second four-point performance of the season on Jan. 8.

SPECIAL TEAMS TALESThe Eagles' power play continues to pick up speed as the Eagles scored a pair against Harvard in the Beanpot on Feb. 1. The extra man unit has risen from 38th to 16th in the country (24-for-113 - 21.2 %) while the penalty kill continues to assert its dominance over the country. BC is tied for sixth in the nation, killing off 86.4 percent (95-for-110), including shutting out the third-ranked unit (Harvard) on Feb. 1.

IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUUUUL TIME, OF THE YEARAs of Saturday, Boston College is ranked fifth in the Pairwise ranking with an RPI rating of .5841, claiming the top spot in the poll with respect to Hockey East.

WHITE TURNED TO BRONZEFreshman Colin White returned to the United States as a bronze-medal winner from the 2016 World Junior Championship from Helsinki, Finland. The Hanover, Mass., native finished second on Team USA in goals (3), assists (4), points (7) and plus/minus rating (+5). White scored a short-handed goal and led Team USA in shooting percentage (30% - 3-for-10).

START SPREADIN’ THE NEWSBoston College and North Dakota will meet in a new marquee event next season, the College Hockey Showdown, on December 3, 2016 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The NCHC will serve as a co-host for the College Hockey Showdown with Madison Square Garden while North Dakota will be designated as the home team. PRESEASON PRECEDENTBoston College was selected as the preseason favorite to win the Hockey East regular-season title as voted on by the league coaches and announced on Sept. 21. The Eagles received 115 overall votes and picked up seven of the league’s 12 first-place votes. The Eagles’ pick as the preseason favorite marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons and the 14th time in the last 17 occasions that BC has been picked as the preseason favorite, or co-favorite, to win the league title.

POLE POSITIONBC was tabbed the unit to beat as the Eagles earned the No. 1 preseason ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine polls unveiled on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, respectively. This marks the seventh time the Eagles have been slotted as the top position in the preseason. The last time Boston College was ranked No. 1 in the country was towards the end of the 2013-14 season when the Eagles ran off a 19-game unbeaten mark, winning 17 games and skating to a pair of draws over the course of the run. Boston College finished No. 13 and No. 14, respectively, in the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine final polls upon conclusion of the 2014-15 season.

Coaches that are Boston College hockey alums – Jerry York, Greg Brown and Marty McInnis. All three have been inducted into Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame.

With the addition of Tommy Cross to the Boston Bruins roster, the Eagles are tied for the most alumni in the NHL for the 2015-16 season with 17 so far

NCAA Tournament victories in the last 18 years. That total is 11 victories more than North Dakota, which has totaled 23 NCAA wins since 1998, the second-highest tournament win total in college hockey.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1997 Frozen Four, the Eagles have the second most wins in college hockey. North Dakota has racked up the most in that span with 493 while Michigan sits at 489 wins.

Jerry York’s overall record is 1,002-595-109 (.619) in his 44th season as a head coach at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College; he owns the most victories of any Division 1 coach in the history of college hockey. York is 34-12 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 39 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.

NCAA Championships in the last 14 years. During that time period, only Denver and Minnesota, each with two, have won multiple national titles.

Frozen Four appearances in the last 18 years; the highest total among all teams in college hockey. Only Boston College (11), North Dakota (nine), Michigan (six), Minnesota (five) and Michigan State (three) have advanced to more than two Frozen Fours during that time period.

Recently departed defenseman Noah Hanifin and incoming freshman forward Colin White were selected by the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators, respectively (fifth and 21st overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the 16th and 17th Eagles in the last 28 years to have been drafted in the first round of the NHL. They join Brian Leetch (ninth, 1986), Craig Janney (13th, 1986), Bill Guerin (fifth, 1989), Marty Reasoner (14th, 1996), Brooks Orpik (18th, 2000), Krys Kolanos (19th, 2000), Chuck Kobasew (14th, 2001), Brian Boyle (26th, 2003), Patrick Eaves (29th, 2003), Cory Schneider (26th, 2004), Nick Petrecki (28th, 2007), Chris Kreider (19th, 2009), Kevin Hayes (24th, 2010), Michael Matheson (23rd, 2012) and Alex Tuch (18th, 2014) as Boston College first-round draftees.

Ian McCoshen and Thatcher Demko returned as members of the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team that competed at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, while Noah Hanifin and Alex Tuch earned their spot for the first time. Incoming freshman Miles Wood was also a member, upping BC’s representation to five Eagles on last year’s squad. With the addition of Hanifin, Tuch and Wood, the BC trio became the 25th, 26th and 27th Eagle participants in World Junior play under head coach Jerry York.

With NCAA Division I championships in 2008, 2010 and 2012, Boston College became the first team since 1961 to win three championships in six seasons; Murray Armstrong’s Denver team won three titles in four years (1958, 1960, 1961). The all-time best is five titles in six years, accomplished by Michigan (1951, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956).

BC has competed in five of the last 10 national championship games – 2006 (Wisconsin, 1-2), 2007 (Michigan State, 1-3), 2008 (Notre Dame, 4-1), 2010 (Wisconsin, 5-0) and 2012 (Ferris State, 4-1).
