BOSTON COLLEGE vs. VERMONTOne cannot change the past, but certainly it can be remembered as Vermont kept Boston College out of TD Garden for the second-consecutive season after ousting the Eagles in the Hockey East quarterfinal series last year in mid-March. The Catamounts, who had played five games at Kelley Rink in just about the course of a month, were 1-14 against BC at Kelley Rink since joining Hockey East. On Feb. 13, 2015 in the first game of that five-game stretch, UVM’s Anthony Petruzzelli netted the walk-off overtime winner 1:47 and set the tone for the Catamounts’ stay. Boston College took out Vermont the following night, 6-5, but UVM claimed the three-game quarterfinal series over the course of March 13-15. Petruzzelli’s overtime winner curbed an 11-game unbeaten streak against Vermont that spanned back to Nov. 13, 2010 and was the Catamounts’ only win on The Heights since joining Hockey East since Nov. 15, 2009. The Eagles now seek advantage, skating into Burlington for the first time in over two seasons with the nation’s longest unbeaten string of 12 games (8-0-4). Dating back to 2010, Boston College is 5-1-1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse, but prior to that strong run, BC experienced trouble up in Burlington. Before 2010, Boston College was 1-4-2 at The Gut in Hockey East play, stretching from Nov. 13, 2005 to Oct. 18, 2009. All-time, the Eagles are 37-15-5 against Vermont in 57 encounters.

CAT CALLSVermont has assembled a bit of an up and down season thus far, settling on a 12-16-3 mark and a 6-9-3 Hockey East total which is good for seventh place in the league. The Catamounts have the luxury of 20 home games this season but have faced some very stiff competition in initiate their 2015-16 campaign, including Minnesota, Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota. UVM went 1-4 to start its season. Vermont’s longest winning streak of the season stands at four games (Dec. 29 – Jan. 8). Last weekend, the Catamounts won three points at New Hampshire, defeating the Wildcats on Feb. 12 (3-2) and tied UNH (2-2) the next night. Junior Mario Puskarich leads Vermont’s point totals with 25 (8-17-25) while second-year forward Jarrid Privitera is UVM’s only goal scorer in double digits with 10. Defensively, junior Mike Santaguida and rookie Packy Munson have split time in net. Santaguida has posted a 4-9-2 record with a 2.70 goals against and a .911 save percentage. Munson, the newcomer, is 8-6-1 with a 2.20 goals against average a .921 save percentage. Both netminders backstop a defense that ranks 27th, nationally, surrendering 2.61 goals per game. On the flipside, the offense has struggled, averaging only 2.26 goals and ranks 50th in the NCAA and 11th in Hockey East. Both special teams’ units have struggled as well. The power play is tied for 46th (13.2 percent – 14-of-106) while the penalty kill is in 50th, stopping opponents at a rate of 78.2 percent (104-of-133).

BEANPOT TROTBoston College won its sixth Beanpot trophy in seven years, and 20th overall as the Eagles defeated archrival Boston University in historic fashion on Feb. 8, 2016 at TD Garden. Alex Tuch delivered his fourth-career game-winning goal in overtime to break up the defensive standoff 1:57 into the extra session.

UNBEANLIEVABLEMonday's title game marked the 256th installment of the Beanpot tournament. In the 255 games prior, there had NEVER been a 1-0 final score. It was also only the second-ever 1-0 game between the Eagles and Terriers since the start of Hockey

East (Dec. 2, 2006). It marked only the fourth shutout in Beanpot championship game history and first since 1981 (also in 1962 and 1967). Boston College had

never shutout BU in the Beanpot championship. Monday's win marked the seventh shutout in Beanpot history for BC and also pushed the Eagles

over the mark in a season for most shutouts in a year (9).

CLOSING IN ON BEANPOT LOREBoston College won its sixth Beanpot trophy in seven years

(2010-16), closing in on Boston University's mark of eight pots in nine tournaments from 1995 to 2003.

FREE BEANSNine of the 43 Beanpot contests between Boston College and Boston University have gone to overtime. The Eagles hold a huge 7-2 advantage in that department,

including the last two championship meetings. Before Alex Tuch's winner, Billy Arnold took down the Terriers in

overtime in the 2012 Beanpot championship.

ANOTHER ONE FOR THE BIOGRAPHYHead coach Jerry York earned another record on Feb. 8, 2016,

when he surpassed his former coach at Boston College, Snooks Kelley, for most Beanpots won the Heights. York won his ninth trophy,

which stands as the most in school history of any other coach.

HISTORIC HALF DOZENThatcher Demko matched history after posting six shutouts in seven starts (Oct. 16 - Nov. 8, 2015), stringing together a pair of three-game shutout streaks. Demko’s historic run tied Blaine Lacher of Lake Superior State for posting six shutouts in seven games, marking only the second time in the history of college hockey something of that magnitude has been achieved. Below are the runs posted by each goaltender:

SHUSH.Demko’s first shutout streak started in the third period at Rensselaer on Oct. 11, 2015, where he played shutout hockey for 206 minutes and two seconds (206:02), denoting the 20th-longest stretch of zero goals allowed in the history of the game. Demko’s second run started in the third period of the Denver contest on Oct. 30 and spanned to the second period against Michigan State, surpassing his previous total and posting another 208 minutes and 36 seconds (208:36) of scorelss hockey. That mark is the 17th-best stretch in the history of the game. Demko’s scoreless string of 208:36 is third longest in school history behind Scott Clemmensen (254:23 – Jan. 9-24, 1998) and Cory Schneider (242:19 – Jan. 13-27, 2006).

...AND NEWThatcher Demko surpassed Cory Schneider for the all-time single-season shutouts record holder, notching his ninth of the season against BU in the Beanpot on Feb. 8. Boston College, as a whole, has never shut out nine teams in a season.

STANDING TALL AMONGST THE BESTDemko is currently sixth in the nation in goals against average (1.80) and seventh in save percentage (.935) on the year and ranked first in overall shutouts with nine. For a career, the 6-foot-4 backstopper is 55-22-10 (.690) with a 2.08 goals against average and a .926 save percentage (2,294 saves on 2,476 shots).

WE'RE GOIN' STREAKINGBoston College possesses the nation's longest unbeaten streak at 12 games, not having lost since the turn of the calendar year, rattling off a 8-0-4 mark starting on Jan. 8. The longest unbeaten stretch under Coach York after the New Year was the 2013-14 team that went 13-0-2.

20 / 20With the Beanpot victory over BU on Feb. 8, Jerry York has now lead his program to a 20-win season (or more) in 17 of his 22 years behind the bench. This is the seventh-consecutive season the Eagles will have won at least 20 games and will be the 75th season in which Boston College has guaranteed more wins than losses.

BROTHERLY LOVEBoth Ryan and Casey Fitzgerald scored power play goals in the Feb. 13 contest at Merrimack and each assisted on one another's tallies. As a whole this season, each have assisted twice on one another's goals this year and have both scored at least one point in the game on 11 different occassions.

SHORT-CHANGEDThe Eagles have scored nine short-handed goals this season, which ranks second in the nation (Penn State - 10). Colin White, Ryan Fitzgerald and Zach Sanford have all scored two this year. It's the most short-handed goals in a season for BC since 2011-12 (12 SHGs). Boston College is also tied for the most successful penalty shot goals (2) with Connecticut as well as delayed penalty goals (2) with Michigan and Wisconsin.

DEFENDING THE HEIGHTS TO NEW HEIGHTSBoston College logged its ninth shutout of the season on Feb. 8, 2016 against Boston University, breaking the school record that was set in 2005-06 (8). All nine shutouts have been pitched by Thatcher Demko, who surpassed Cory Schneider's mark from the 05-06 season. No other team has posted nine shutouts in college hockey this season..

OVERTIME EXHILIRATIONAlex Tuch's overtime winner at the 1:57 mark of overtime in the championship game against BU gave the Eagles their first OT walk-off winnger since Ryan Fitzgerald turned the trick against Harvard in the consolation game of the Beanpot on Feb. 23, 2015. The last time BC pitched a shutout in a neutral site was when Brian Billett did so at CONSOL Energy Center against Bowling Green on Dec. 27, 2013, 5-0. The last two neutral site shutouts took place at an NHL arena (Pittsburgh & Boston).

THE LEGEND CONTINUES...Boston College coach Jerry York has reached the 1,000-win mark for his career in his 1,703rd game as a head coach. In all, York's record is 1,005-595-110 (.620) in 44 seasons at the head coach level and 538-260-76 (.659) in his 22nd season at the helm of Boston College. At the collegiate level, York is the 55th head coach to reach 1,000-career victories and the first to do so in college hockey. York remains the winningest coach in the history of the game. In his 1,000-career victories, Jerry York has defeated 69 different programs spread out through his tenures at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College. The all time total goal count in Coach York's 1,000 victories is 5,421 goals for and 2,395 goals against. York also won his ninth Beanpot trophy on Feb. 8, 2016, checking off another record in the Boston College annals.

TUCH LUCKAlex Tuch's fourth-career game-winning goal came in grand fashion on Feb. 8, helping the Eagles claim the Beanpot at the 1:57 mark of overtime. The Baldwinsville, N.Y., native just finished off tying a career-best seven-game point streak (Jan. 22 - Feb. 12) in which he accounted for eight points (4-4-8) over the course of that span.

FREAKY FASTBC has had a penchant for attacking quckly this season. Casey Fitzgerald scored 1:35 into the Beanpot semifinal. It was the fastest goal to start a Beanpot game since Bryan Ewing scored 1:23 into the game on Feb. 6, 2006. Austin Cangelosi scored 12 seconds into the home opener against Wisconsin, marking the fastest goal scored by an Eagle since Matt Price tallied 11 seconds into the game against Northeastern on March 7, 2008. The Estero, Fla., native followed that with a goal 16 seconds into the game on Jan. 29 at Notre Dame.

SHORT-HANDED LAY-UPAustin Cangelosi converted on a penalty shot against BU on Jan. 15, marking the Eagles' first penalty shot goal since Chris Kreider tallied one against Notre Dame on Nov. 18, 2011. It should be noted, Cangelosi's penalty shot occurred when the Eagles were short-handed. Cangelosi also converted a penalty shot against Merrimack and is the only skater in college hockey so far with a pair.

HATS OFFColin White, fresh off his trip to Finland as a member of Team USA's bronze-medal winning team at World Juniors, responded with Boston College's first hat trick of the season on Jan. 8 vs. PC and added an assist for his second-career four-point performance.

WATCH OUT FOR WHITEColin White, who has registered 11 multi-point performances this season, is currently the 13th most prolific scorer in college hockey and the second-highest scoring freshman with an average of 1.29 point per game. The Hanover, Mass. native leads the Eagles with 36 points, notching 17 goals and 19 assists along the way. White tallied his second game-winning goal in power play fashion against Harvard in the Beanpot on Feb. 1.

FITZ IN A FLASHRyan Fitzgerald is fifth in the nation in shot attempts per game, triggering at a rate of 4.48 shots on net. The North Andover, Mass. native was the first Eagle to 10 goals and second on the team with 35 points (16-19-35) this seaosn. Fitzgerald is 18th overall in scoring with 1.21 points per game. He recorded his second four-point performance of the season on Jan. 8.

SPECIAL TEAMS TALESThe Eagles' power play continues to pick up speed as the Eagles have scored 15 power play goals in theit last 12 outings. The extra man unit has risen from 38th to 10th in the country (85-for-127 - 22.0 %) while the penalty kill continues to assert its dominance over the country. BC is seventh in the nation, killing off 86.3 percent (107-for-124), including shutting out the third-ranked unit (Harvard) on Feb. 1 on the power play.

WHITE TURNED TO BRONZEFreshman Colin White returned to the United States as a bronze-medal winner from the 2016 World Junior Championship from Helsinki, Finland. The Hanover, Mass., native finished second on Team USA in goals (3), assists (4), points (7) and plus/minus rating (+5). White scored a short-handed goal and led Team USA in shooting percentage (30% - 3-for-10).

START SPREADIN’ THE NEWSBoston College and North Dakota will meet in a new marquee event next season, the College Hockey Showdown, on December 3, 2016 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The NCHC will serve as a co-host for the College Hockey Showdown with Madison Square Garden while North Dakota will be designated as the home team. PRESEASON PRECEDENTBoston College was selected as the preseason favorite to win the Hockey East regular-season title as voted on by the league coaches and announced on Sept. 21. The Eagles received 115 overall votes and picked up seven of the league’s 12 first-place votes. The Eagles’ pick as the preseason favorite marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons and the 14th time in the last 17 occasions that BC has been picked as the preseason favorite, or co-favorite, to win the league title.

POLE POSITIONBC was tabbed the unit to beat as the Eagles earned the No. 1 preseason ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine polls unveiled on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, respectively. This marks the seventh time the Eagles have been slotted as the top position in the preseason. The last time Boston College was ranked No. 1 in the country was towards the end of the 2013-14 season when the Eagles ran off a 19-game unbeaten mark, winning 17 games and skating to a pair of draws over the course of the run. Boston College finished No. 13 and No. 14, respectively, in the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine final polls upon conclusion of the 2014-15 season.

Coaches that are Boston College hockey alums – Jerry York, Greg Brown and Marty McInnis. All three have been inducted into Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame.

With the addition of Tommy Cross to the Boston Bruins roster, the Eagles are tied for the most alumni in the NHL for the 2015-16 season with 17 so far

NCAA Tournament victories in the last 18 years. That total is 11 victories more than North Dakota, which has totaled 23 NCAA wins since 1998, the second-highest tournament win total in college hockey.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1997 Frozen Four, the Eagles own the most wins in college hockey. North Dakota has racked up 495 while Michigan sits at 493 wins.

Jerry York’s overall record is 1,005-595-110 (.619) in his 44th season as a head coach at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College; he owns the most victories of any Division 1 coach in the history of college hockey. York is 34-12 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 39 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.

NCAA Championships in the last 14 years. During that time period, only Denver and Minnesota, each with two, have won multiple national titles.

Frozen Four appearances in the last 18 years; the highest total among all teams in college hockey. Only Boston College (11), North Dakota (nine), Michigan (six), Minnesota (five) and Michigan State (three) have advanced to more than two Frozen Fours during that time period.

Recently departed defenseman Noah Hanifin and incoming freshman forward Colin White were selected by the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators, respectively (fifth and 21st overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the 16th and 17th Eagles in the last 28 years to have been drafted in the first round of the NHL. They join Brian Leetch (ninth, 1986), Craig Janney (13th, 1986), Bill Guerin (fifth, 1989), Marty Reasoner (14th, 1996), Brooks Orpik (18th, 2000), Krys Kolanos (19th, 2000), Chuck Kobasew (14th, 2001), Brian Boyle (26th, 2003), Patrick Eaves (29th, 2003), Cory Schneider (26th, 2004), Nick Petrecki (28th, 2007), Chris Kreider (19th, 2009), Kevin Hayes (24th, 2010), Michael Matheson (23rd, 2012) and Alex Tuch (18th, 2014) as Boston College first-round draftees.

Ian McCoshen and Thatcher Demko returned as members of the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team that competed at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, while Noah Hanifin and Alex Tuch earned their spot for the first time. Incoming freshman Miles Wood was also a member, upping BC’s representation to five Eagles on last year’s squad. With the addition of Hanifin, Tuch and Wood, the BC trio became the 25th, 26th and 27th Eagle participants in World Junior play under head coach Jerry York.

With NCAA Division I championships in 2008, 2010 and 2012, Boston College became the first team since 1961 to win three championships in six seasons; Murray Armstrong’s Denver team won three titles in four years (1958, 1960, 1961). The all-time best is five titles in six years, accomplished by Michigan (1951, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956).

BC has competed in five of the last 10 national championship games – 2006 (Wisconsin, 1-2), 2007 (Michigan State, 1-3), 2008 (Notre Dame, 4-1), 2010 (Wisconsin, 5-0) and 2012 (Ferris State, 4-1).
