BOSTON COLLEGE vs. MERRIMACKBoston College and Merrimack meet up Friday night on The Heights on the heels of the Eagles’ 20th Beanpot tournament victory in program history. Last year, BC took both games off the Warriors and look to extend a lengthy streak on Friday evening. Boston College possesses one of the longer streaks going in Hockey East and has not lost in 29 games within the confines of Conte Forum against Merrimack, mounting a 26-0-3 record, dating back to Oct. 31, 1997. All-time at Kelley Rink, BC is 36-6-3 against Merrimack since the start of Hockey East play. The narrative shifts a bit on the road as BC is 3-4-1 in its last eight outings at Merrimack and since the Eagles have been a member in Hockey East, BC owns just a 57.5 percent win percentage (22-16-2) at Lawler Arena. All-time, the Eagles possess a 64-21-5 overall mark against the Warriors. Merrimack head coach, Mark Dennehy, a former Eagle under Len Ceglarski, started off his career against Jerry York winless in his first 19 meetings. York posted a 17-0-2 mark against Dennehy’s club until he obtained the elusive first win over his alma mater on Nov. 1, 2009, in North Andover. In all, York is 29-4-3 against Dennehy. MC has only defeated BC once in the last 11 encounters. It occurred on Feb. 15, 2013 when Conor Toomey scored an overtime game-winning power play goal with 31 seconds left in overtime in North Andover.

WARRIOR WATCHMerrimack heads into Friday’s contest with an 8-14-6 overall mark and a 2-8-6 Hockey East record, tied for 10th place with Maine. Before their last two outings, the Warriors endured a 10-game losing streak in which they were outscored, 42-12, from Dec. 12 to Jan. 29. Merrimack responded by thumping college hockey’s newest program, Arizona State, 10-0, at Lawler Arena and then tied Connecticut, 2-2, on Feb. 6. Senior forward Bria Christie leads the Warrior offense with six goals and 14 assists while classmate Ben Bahe has tallied the most goals with seven. Second-year goaltender Collin Delia has earned the majority of the time in net, starting 24 of 28 games with a 7-11-6 mark and a 2.78 goals against and .895 save percentage. Dellia backstops the 33rd ranked defense (2.79 gpg) in the nation while the offense is tied for 46th, averaging 2.36 goals per game. The Warriors’ penalty kill is tied for 36th in the nation, killing of 82 percent of opponents’ opportunities while the power play is 50th, converting at a rate of 12.1 percent.

BEANPOT TROTBoston College won its sixth Beanpot trophy in seven years, and 20th overall as the Eagles defeated archrival Boston University in historic fashion on Feb. 8, 2016 at TD Garden. Alex Tuch delivered his fourth-career game-winning goal in overtime to break up the defensive standoff 1:57 into the extra session.

UNBEALIEVABLEMonday's title game marked the 256th installment of the Beanpot tournament. In the 255 games prior, there had NEVER been a 1-0 final score. It was also only the second-ever 1-0 game between the Eagles and Terriers since the start of Hockey

East (Dec. 2, 2006). It marked only the fourth shutout in Beanpot championship game history and first since 1981 (also in 1962 and 1967). Boston College had

never shutout BU in the Beanpot championship. Monday's win marked the seventh shutout in Beanpot history for BC and also pushed the Eagles

over the mark in a season for most shutouts in a year (9).

CLOSING IN ON BEANPOT LOREBoston College won its sixth Beanpot trophy in seven years

(2010-16), closing in on Boston University's mark of eight pots in nine tournaments from 1995 to 2003.

FREE BEANSNine of the 43 Beanpot contests between Boston College and Boston University have gone to overtime. The Eagles hold a huge 7-2 advantage in that department,

including the last two championship meetings. Before Alex Tuch's winner, Billy Arnold took down the Terriers in

overtime in the 2012 Beanpot championship.

ANOTHER ONE FOR THE BIOGRAPHYHead coach Jerry York earned another record on Feb. 8, 2016,

when he surpassed his former coach at Boston College, Snooks Kelley, for most Beanpots won the Heights. York won his ninth trophy,

which stands as the most in school history of any other coach.

HISTORIC HALF DOZENThatcher Demko matched history after posting six shutouts in seven starts (Oct. 16 - Nov. 8, 2015), stringing together a pair of three-game shutout streaks. Demko’s historic run tied Blaine Lacher of Lake Superior State for posting six shutouts in seven games, marking only the second time in the history of college hockey something of that magnitude has been achieved. Below are the runs posted by each goaltender:

SHUSH.Demko’s first shutout streak started in the third period at Rensselaer on Oct. 11, 2015, where he played shutout hockey for 206 minutes and two seconds (206:02), denoting the 20th-longest stretch of zero goals allowed in the history of the game. Demko’s second run started in the third period of the Denver contest on Oct. 30 and spanned to the second period against Michigan State, surpassing his previous total and posting another 208 minutes and 36 seconds (208:36) of scorelss hockey. That mark is the 17th-best stretch in the history of the game. Demko’s scoreless string of 208:36 is third longest in school history behind Scott Clemmensen (254:23 – Jan. 9-24, 1998) and Cory Schneider (242:19 – Jan. 13-27, 2006).

...AND NEWThatcher Demko surpassed Cory Schneider for the all-time single-season shutouts record holder, notching his ninth of the season against BU in the Beanpot on Feb. 8. Boston College, as a whole, has never shut out nine teams in a season.

STANDING TALL AMONGST THE BESTDemko is currently third in the nation in goals against average (1.64) and save percentage (.940) on the year and ranked first in overall shutouts with nine. For a career, the 6-foot-4 backstopper is 54-22-9 (.688) with a 2.04 goals against average and a .928 save percentage (2,223 saves on 2,407 shots).

COMIN' IN HOTBoston College is tied for the longest unbeaten streak in college hockey heading into Friday's Merrimack game. The Eagles are 7-0-3 over the course of 10 games, tied with Air Force (7-0-3) while Quinnipiac leads with a 6-0-4 mark. Since the turn into 2016, Boston College is unbeaten in those 10 games. The longest unbeaten stretch under Coach York after the New Year was the 2013-14 team that went 13-0-2.

DEFENDING THE HEIGHTS TO NEW HEIGHTSBoston College logged its ninth shutout of the season on Feb. 8, 2016 against Boston University, breaking the school record that was set in 2005-06 (8). All nine shutouts have been pitched by Thatcher Demko, who surpassed Cory Schneider's mark from the 05-06 season. No other team has posted nine shutouts in college hockey this season..

OVERTIME EXHILIRATIONAlex Tuch's overtime winner at the 1:57 mark of overtime in the championship game against BU gave the Eagles their first OT walk-off winnger since Ryan Fitzgerald turned the trick against Harvard in the consolation game of the Beanpot on Feb. 23, 2015. The last time BC pitched a shutout in a neutral site was when Brian Billett did so at CONSOL Energy Center against Bowling Green on Dec. 27, 2013, 5-0. The last two neutral site shutouts took place at an NHL arena (Pittsburgh & Boston).

THE LEGEND CONTINUES...Boston College coach Jerry York has reached the 1,000-win mark for his career in his 1,703rd game as a head coach. In all, York's record is 1,004-595-109 (.620) in 44 seasons at the head coach level and 537-260-75 (.659) in his 22nd season at the helm of Boston College. At the collegiate level, York is the 55th head coach to reach 1,000-career victories and the first to do so in college hockey. York remains the winningest coach in the history of the game. In his 1,000-career victories, Jerry York has defeated 69 different programs spread out through his tenures at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College. TUCH LUCKAlex Tuch's fourth-career game-winning goal came in grand fashion on Feb. 8, helping the Eagles claim the Beanpot at the 1:57 mark of overtime. The Baldwinsville, N.Y., native is riding a career-best six-game point streak that started on Jan. 22 and has accounted for three goals and four assists over that span.

FREAKY FASTBC has had a penchant for attacking quckly this season. Casey Fitzgerald scored 1:35 into the Beanpot semifinal on a feed from brother, Ryan to set the early tone. It was the fastest goal to start a Beanpot game since Bryan Ewing scored 1:23 into the game on Feb. 6, 2006. Austin Cangelosi scored 12 seconds into the home opener against Wisconsin, marking the fastest goal scored by an Eagle since Matt Price tallied 11 seconds into the game against Northeastern on March 7, 2008. The Estero, Fla., native followed that with a goal 16 seconds into the game on Jan. 29 at Notre Dame.

MILESTONE MARKSSeveral career game milestones Jan. 22 at UMass as Austin Cangelosi and Ryan Fitzgerald played in their 100th-career games tonight. Adam Gilmour dressed in his 100th game at BU. Teddy Doherty took part in his 125th game on Jan. 16 at BU while Travis Jeke donned the maroon and gold for the 50th time at Agganis Arena on Jan. 16. Scott Savage recorded a pair of assists on Feb. 5 against UNH in his 100th-career game.

SHORT-HANDED LAY-UPAustin Cangelosi converted on a penalty shot against BU on Jan. 15, marking the Eagles' first penalty shot goal since Chris Kreider tallied one against Notre Dame on Nov. 18, 2011. It should be noted, Cangelosi's penalty shot occurred when the Eagles were short-handed.

HATS OFFFreshman Colin White, fresh off his trip to Finland as a member of Team USA's bronze-medal winning team at the World Junior Championship, responded with Boston College's first hat trick of the season on Jan. 8 vs. PC and added an assist for his second-career four-point performance. For his performance, White was awarded his third Hockey East Rookie of the Week honor. White's hat trick marks BC's first since Ryan Fitzgerald scored all three goals in a 3-2 win at home over Connecticut on Jan. 24, 2015.

WATCH OUT FOR WHITEColin White, who has registered 11 multi-point performances this season, is currently the 11th most prolific scorer in college hockey and the second-highest scoring freshman with an average of 1.35 point per game. The Hanover, Mass. native leads the Eagles with 35 points, notching 16 goals and 19 assists along the way. White tallied his second game-winning goal in power play fashion against Harvard in the Beanpot on Feb. 1.

FITZ IN A FLASHRyan Fitzgerald is tied for sixth in the nation in shot attempts per game, triggering at a rate of 4.41 shots on net. The North Andover, Mass. native was the first Eagle to 10 goals and second on the team with 31 points (14-17-31) this seaosn. Fitzgerald is tied for 21st overall in scoring with 1.19 points per game. He recorded his second four-point performance of the season on Jan. 8.

SPECIAL TEAMS TALESThe Eagles' power play continues to pick up speed as the Eagles scored a pair against Harvard in the Beanpot on Feb. 1. The extra man unit has risen from 38th to 18th in the country (25-for-121 - 20.7 %) while the penalty kill continues to assert its dominance over the country. BC is fifth in the nation, killing off 87.2 percent (102-for-117), including shutting out the third-ranked unit (Harvard) on Feb. 1 on the power play.

WHITE TURNED TO BRONZEFreshman Colin White returned to the United States as a bronze-medal winner from the 2016 World Junior Championship from Helsinki, Finland. The Hanover, Mass., native finished second on Team USA in goals (3), assists (4), points (7) and plus/minus rating (+5). White scored a short-handed goal and led Team USA in shooting percentage (30% - 3-for-10).

START SPREADIN’ THE NEWSBoston College and North Dakota will meet in a new marquee event next season, the College Hockey Showdown, on December 3, 2016 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The NCHC will serve as a co-host for the College Hockey Showdown with Madison Square Garden while North Dakota will be designated as the home team. PRESEASON PRECEDENTBoston College was selected as the preseason favorite to win the Hockey East regular-season title as voted on by the league coaches and announced on Sept. 21. The Eagles received 115 overall votes and picked up seven of the league’s 12 first-place votes. The Eagles’ pick as the preseason favorite marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons and the 14th time in the last 17 occasions that BC has been picked as the preseason favorite, or co-favorite, to win the league title.

POLE POSITIONBC was tabbed the unit to beat as the Eagles earned the No. 1 preseason ranking in both the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine polls unveiled on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, respectively. This marks the seventh time the Eagles have been slotted as the top position in the preseason. The last time Boston College was ranked No. 1 in the country was towards the end of the 2013-14 season when the Eagles ran off a 19-game unbeaten mark, winning 17 games and skating to a pair of draws over the course of the run. Boston College finished No. 13 and No. 14, respectively, in the USCHO.com and USA Today / USA Hockey Magazine final polls upon conclusion of the 2014-15 season.

Coaches that are Boston College hockey alums – Jerry York, Greg Brown and Marty McInnis. All three have been inducted into Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame.

With the addition of Tommy Cross to the Boston Bruins roster, the Eagles are tied for the most alumni in the NHL for the 2015-16 season with 17 so far

NCAA Tournament victories in the last 18 years. That total is 11 victories more than North Dakota, which has totaled 23 NCAA wins since 1998, the second-highest tournament win total in college hockey.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1997 Frozen Four, the Eagles are tied for the most wins in college hockey. North Dakota has racked up 495 while Michigan sits at 492 wins.

Jerry York’s overall record is 1,004-595-109 (.619) in his 44th season as a head coach at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College; he owns the most victories of any Division 1 coach in the history of college hockey. York is 34-12 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 39 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.

NCAA Championships in the last 14 years. During that time period, only Denver and Minnesota, each with two, have won multiple national titles.

Frozen Four appearances in the last 18 years; the highest total among all teams in college hockey. Only Boston College (11), North Dakota (nine), Michigan (six), Minnesota (five) and Michigan State (three) have advanced to more than two Frozen Fours during that time period.

Recently departed defenseman Noah Hanifin and incoming freshman forward Colin White were selected by the Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators, respectively (fifth and 21st overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the 16th and 17th Eagles in the last 28 years to have been drafted in the first round of the NHL. They join Brian Leetch (ninth, 1986), Craig Janney (13th, 1986), Bill Guerin (fifth, 1989), Marty Reasoner (14th, 1996), Brooks Orpik (18th, 2000), Krys Kolanos (19th, 2000), Chuck Kobasew (14th, 2001), Brian Boyle (26th, 2003), Patrick Eaves (29th, 2003), Cory Schneider (26th, 2004), Nick Petrecki (28th, 2007), Chris Kreider (19th, 2009), Kevin Hayes (24th, 2010), Michael Matheson (23rd, 2012) and Alex Tuch (18th, 2014) as Boston College first-round draftees.

Ian McCoshen and Thatcher Demko returned as members of the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team that competed at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Montreal and Toronto, Canada, while Noah Hanifin and Alex Tuch earned their spot for the first time. Incoming freshman Miles Wood was also a member, upping BC’s representation to five Eagles on last year’s squad. With the addition of Hanifin, Tuch and Wood, the BC trio became the 25th, 26th and 27th Eagle participants in World Junior play under head coach Jerry York.

With NCAA Division I championships in 2008, 2010 and 2012, Boston College became the first team since 1961 to win three championships in six seasons; Murray Armstrong’s Denver team won three titles in four years (1958, 1960, 1961). The all-time best is five titles in six years, accomplished by Michigan (1951, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956).

BC has competed in five of the last 10 national championship games – 2006 (Wisconsin, 1-2), 2007 (Michigan State, 1-3), 2008 (Notre Dame, 4-1), 2010 (Wisconsin, 5-0) and 2012 (Ferris State, 4-1).
