Where is Bosnia?

Bosnia is in south east Europe. In the Balkan peninsula. It is now a country can Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Historical Context

After the second world war the government of Yugoslavia republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina declared their independence from Yugoslavia. At the time, Muslims represented the largest population in Bosnia. The Bosnian were listed under the category “regional affiliation” by the Yugoslavia statistics. Under the government, Muslims were not treated equally. For ex. They could not be seen as Bosnian instead they had to either choose between Serb, Croats ,Undecided or Muslim. (The m in Muslim wasn’t made upper case until 1973.) Eventually the term Bosniaks was re-introduced instead of Muslim. It was too late because non-Muslims in Bosnia didn’t not accept. http://www.history.com/topics/bosnian-genocide
