Day 5 - Tuesday 6th August 2019 KOTA KINABALU- SANDAKAN (B,L,D)AfterbreakfasttodaywewillvisittheMari-MariCulturalVillage toseehow indigenousethnicgroupsofBorneousedtolive.Itisagreatchancetoseewhatthecultureand lifestyle would have been like in years gone by.Wewill see first-hand how the tribeswould cook theirmeals, strating fire with bamboo and using a blow-pipe to hunt. It is a fun and educational experience.AfterwardswewillflytoSandakan.Theflighttimetakesapproximately40minutes.Youareonlypermitted15kgofcheckedluggage.UponarrivalatSandakantown,wewillproceedwithatouroftheCity,includingThePuuJihShihBuddhist Temple,which is located on a steep hilltopwhereyoucanhaveamagnificentviewoverlookingSandakanBay and theTownCentre.Wealso visit oneof the oldest churches in Sabah- St.Michael’s Churchand the Sandakan War memorial. The sanctuary is a protected forest reserveinhabitedbyseveralgroupsofwildproboscismonkeys.NextwevisitTheSepilokOrangutanRehabilitationCentrethat was set up to help re-introduce these wonderfulcreaturesbackintothewildafteralifeofdomesticationor havingbeenorphaned.Toaid theorangutansadaptto thewild, a supplementary diet of bananas andmilkis laid out on feeding platforms twice a day. From theviewingplatform,youcanwatchandphotographthesecharming creatures as they swing into view on ropesandvines.We’renotpermittedtohindertheorangutans,ashumancontactmustbekept toaminimumand it’sessential thatwe follow the instructionsof thepark,asdirectedbyyour leader.There’salsoashort filmaboutthe orangutan rehabilitation process to watch in thereserve’s interpretation centre.
