Extreme conditions require secure solutions

At the end of 2007 Bornemannsupplied its f irst MultiphaseBoosting Systems to Kazakhstan.As localisation is of majorimportance for customisedsolutions Bornemann had toconsider various local termswhich are typical for CentralAsian countries.

Due to widely varying climateconditions from –40 to +40degrees all materials purchasedand manufactured, as e.g. ballvalves, had to be resistantagainst these extreme changesin weather.

Another challenge was theappearance of hydrogen sulfide(H2S) in the fluid, a highly poisonous chemical compound. As to ensure the highest possiblelevel of safety Bornemann purchased the complete material in accordance to NACE requirements and installed H2S-detectors.

The control system was delivered to Kazakhstan completely assembled.

From a pilot project to a successful solution

The leader of the Malaysian oil and gas industry launched a pilot project by installing the Multiphase Pump Technology at one of theirfields.

The system was set up and successfully commissioned atTembugo-B, an unmanned off-shore satellite platform inSabah Waters in August 2007.

The Tembugo oil f ield consistsof an integrated production and processing platform, theTembungo-A and Tembungo-B.The unprocessed mixture of gasand crude from Tembungo-B isrouted by a 6 inches trunk linedeparting to Tembungo-B.

In order to guarantee the cus-tomer the highest degree ofsecurity Bornemann installedan on skid control system.

A turn-key solution

In December 2007 two Multiphase Pumps were started successfully atan Oil Terminal on the east cost of India.

In order to overcome the high backpressure of the pipeline whichconstraints productivity of the well at offshore, the MultiphasePumps were installed at the onshore terminal.

The skids consist of all necessary control and safety equipment suit-able to handle the well fluid with appropriate operational flexibilityand supervisory.

The installed Multiphase Pumps boost varying fluid regimes, as thepipeline is handling multiphase (oil, gas, water) flow and slug flow(gas).

Asia is the biggest and most populous continent.

Its largest economies are China, Japan, India and

South Korea. Other countries like Malaysia, Thailand

and Indonesia are forecasted to experience a long-

term growth.

A tropical climate solution

At the end of 2007 Bornemannequipped an unmanned wellhead platform in the Gulf ofThailand with a Multiphase PumpSystem.

The Bornemann MultiphaseTechnology was the perfectsolution for the Surat-A plat-form because in comparison toconventional technology Multi-phase Pumps require less of therestricted space.

The MPP-System is a gas enginedriven unit and it contains special features to meet localrequirements. An hydraulicsystem driven by the gas engineas well provide power to allauxiliaries as there is no exter-nal power available on suchunmanned platforms.

Thailand‘s tropical climateposed further challenges for theengine and the MPP-System aswell which were solved success-fully by Bornemann. The on-skidcontrol system is suitable forinstallation in hazardous zoneand all components are instal-led to allow easy relocation toother platforms after depletionof wells.
