Born in France, Philippe Bodin holds a DMA in Composition from Yale University where he studied with Martin Bresnick and Nicholas Maw. Recognition for his work includes awards from the Guggenheim Foundation and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and wins in the Lutoslawski (Poland), AngeloComneno (Italy), and Homage to Mozart (Russia) competitions. He has been commissioned by the Da Capo Chamber Players, Left Coast, Empyrean; the Eroica, Mannes, and Kungsbacka (Sweden) trios; pianists Genevieve Lee and Lorène de Ratuld; Radio France, TM+ (France); Volharding and Electra (Netherlands). Recent performances include Verge in DC, Peripherie in Iowa, Monday Evening Concerts and Piano Spheres in L.A., Keys to the Future in New York, and the Asia Pacific Festival. Prior to his incarnation as a composer, Philippe studied mathematics, architecture, piano, organ, and voice, and had a career as an operatic baritone, working under the batons of MyungWhun Chung, Philippe Herreweghe, and Marc Minkovski.
