On the scaffold, when they placed the noose round his neck at Tyburn Gallows in London - St. Henry Morse sj addressed the people:
“I am come hither to die for my religion……I have a secret which highly concerns His Majesty and Parliament to know. The kingdom of England will never be truly blessed until it returns to the Catholic faith and its subjects are all united in one belief under the Bishop of Rome.” He ended by saying: “I pray that my death may be s o m e k i n d o f atonement for the sins of this kingdom.”

St. John Fisher
Having forgiven his executioner as he stood on the scaffold, John faced the crowd and proclaimed: “Christian people, I am come hither to die for the faith of Christ’s Catholic Church, and I thank God hitherto my courage hath served me well thereto, so that yet hitherto I have not feared death, wherefore I desire you help me and assist me with your prayers, that at the very point and instant of my death’s stroke, and in the very moment of my death, I then faint not in any point of the Catholic Faith for fear; and I pray God save the king and the realm, and hold His holy hand over it, and send the kings a good counsel.”
St. Thomas More
While on the scaffold at Tower Hill before his beheading he declared that he died “the king’s good servant, but God’s first.”
St. Edmund Gennings
“I will live and die in the true Roman Catholic Faith..”
St. Alexander Brian
“Judge me, O God and distinguish my cause from the nation that is not holy … I will go unto the altar of God, to God who giveth joy to my youth.”
